    I have been watching Doctor Who since the mid-seventies and it's great to watch these episodes through new eyes 😊👍

    Consider that she made Chip, and obviously designed him after "The man at the party.", it meant that much to her.

      It's a bootstrap paradox, plus if you think about, maybe the reason she gets so much plastic surgery done is because it's the last time she was told she's beautiful so she's trying to stay beautiful because of it, until she loops around and she sees her younger self and realises how beautiful she was in the first place trying to tell her she's beautiful at this point, but it feeds into the loop.

    Hi E.B., glad to see you enjoy another episode. The actress portraying Cassandra, (Zoe Wanamaker, who you saw as herself at the end), is a really good actress. We also have her father Sam, (formerly a U.S. actor) to thank for his iconic contribution to our theatre. He had the vision & the dedication to recreate (Shakespeare`s Globe Theatre), almost at the exact same spot as the original.
    Sadly, he died 30yrs ago, a few years before the grand opening by the Queen. He had dedicated the last 23 yrs of his life, blood, sweat & even some of his earnings to make it happen. We owe Sam a debt of gratitude, IMO !!

    It's not my favourite episode but the ending with Cassandra being the last person to call herself beautiful is extremely bittersweet as you say. I'm glad you reacting to DW, can't wait for more reactions

    The Doctor always tries to go the path of mercy. Even the worst of intergalactic criminals gets given a chance. He rarely punishes and taking Cassandra back to the last time she was truly happy was an act of mercy. She was dying anyway, so what would be the point of being cruel?
    And I love Novice Hame. I think Anna Hope does an amazing job under the prosthesis. All the nuns do a great job, and whoever was responsible for the prostheses and makeup wasn't paid nearly enough.

    A very enjoyable episode, the sadness, the comedy, the absolute joy - all of it made, in my opinion, one of the better scripts thus far. Of course there's more to come and the writing gets better as we progress. Oh to be you Alan, experiencing Doctor Who for the first time. What a joy that would be!!

    A little info about Zoe Wanamaker's ( Here playing Cassandra) father Sam.
    Samuel Wanamaker, CBE - born Wattenmacker; June 14, 1919 - December 18, 1993 - was an American actor and director who moved to the United Kingdom after becoming fearful of being blacklisted in Hollywood due to his communist views.
    He is credited as the person most responsible for saving The Rose Theatre, which led to the modern recreation of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.
    He is commemorated in the name of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, the site's second theatre.

    I always saw the ending as showing Cassandra does have a heart and cares. In that scene she is like a celeb, all the guys are adoring her, so been told she's beautiful a lot in the fake celebrity world, but it's all bs as it's never sincere from tabloids media and those riding her coat tales. This time Chip says it in a way so sincere she feels it, and it brought out the nurturing love in her that you saw when Chip collapses. I think that was the point of that scene, to show she isn't a total bitch, just brought up in the wrong place

  • @DavidSmith-cx8dg

    I have to agree , the pacing of this one was a bit off . It was nice to see Zoe Wannamaker on screen at the end after lending her unmistakable voice to Cassandra for two episodes . The idea of a cat evolved life form was maybe a wink to another British sci-fi to classic Red Dwarf . David Tennant and Billie Piper probably had a lot of fun with the accents and it was a good plot .Hope you are enjoying this incarnation of the Doctor .

    • @TheGreatLordDufus
      @TheGreatLordDufus Před rokem +2

      Oh, I hadn't thought of Cat as a possible influence. Given this had its comedy moments, it is possible. Although Cassandra acts more like Cat than the cats do.

      @chazo1367 Před rokem +1

      This was more Billie Piper than anything, after the end of season 1 which was pretty dark she wanted a more lighthearted episode, this was what RTD accommodated with, it’s not bad but not great, it’s relatively simple and it’s self contained, you only need to remember who Casandra and the Face of Boe are, since everyone else is new.

    Fun fact, this was filmed on location at the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire and legend has it that it's impossible to count the stones - so it fits with the story! In the production notes for the story there were a lot of problems with using K9 on location shooting which will come up again later.

    It's my opinion, mine only, (maybe among many others); this Doctor Who, David Tennet (their is a great story behind his name) is considered one the best Doctor Who's. My favorite, the one I grew up with is Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor, but I will leave it at that. I hope as you view more of this famous show you get to experience the fourth as I had. His was so far the longest season. I suggest checking out all the Doctors to enjoy what all Whovians, have loved over the years!

      Russell T Davies (RTD), the main showrunner at this time, knew Davis Tennant from a play he had previously produced and asked him to do the accent he'd used in the play. No idea why RTD wanted it, but that's why.

    Not the best episode of the season and the science is abysmal, but like you say the pay off is great: the Doctor allows Cassandra to die in her own arms.
    And it's a statement, if you choose to take it as such, on the barbarism of vivisection. The nightmare in that episode is real life for millions of animals.
    Oh and Tennant and Piper are great fun channelling Zoe Wanamaker.

    This isn’t a fave episode of mine, it has some good ideas, but as you say, it feels disjointed, the pace is limping & running and the solution feels too disappointingly simple, but there’s some fun moments and Cassandra’s ending has a pleasing emotional core to it. The cats are a tribute I think to the Cat character of Red Dwarf fame Writing and pacing are off slightly because Tennant is yet to grow into and make Dr Who his own which he does brilliantly. 0:00 Zoe Wanamaker is a stage actress but has appeared in a long running UK sitcom as well as taking the part of Madame Hooch in the first Harry Potter Movie like the Ecclestone Dr the stories and acting get better much better. This episode is a mark time one.
