I remember growing a Dahlia close to my foundation and it came back every year (which I was surprised as well). I took it out for some reason but will experiment doing that again. Loving your pink Hydrangea at the start of this video. Very prolific. Coneflowers are so awesome. Can’t go wrong with them with all the different colors they come in. I found perennial Ageratum from a local women on Facebook marketplace. They are forming a short hedge and I’m looking forward to seeing them flower.
    Thanks for sharing your garden.

This is my first year growing ageratum. I believe the perennial one is flossflower which I also planted in a different area of my garden but not sure that is getting enough sun. That dahlia is surprising because that is about 5 feet from the foundation but I guess it is sheltered by a lot of shrubs. We'll see if it does anything.

Hubby recommends an 8" auger to drill out a big hole in the clay for your plants instead of rhe grow bags. Thats what he does. The clay has a lot of nutrients, but a pain to dig. You can rent them too.

I tried an auger in the past but our soil has so many rocks in it that is is nearly impossible. I really like growning my dahlias in grow bags, I have had the best success growing them in that manner and it is also so much easier when digging out the tubers. I won't be going back to planting dahlias in the ground.

You're the winter sowing queen. My snaps didn't do well from seed thus year, but rhankfully I have some coming back rather survived and are blooming.
Does your gomphrena get big? Mine stalls out at like 6-8". And it's got a tiny bloom. Should I prune it???? I'm not sure they're worth it for me to grow.

My husband recommends using an 8" auger to make a really big hole to fill with soil n plants. That's what he does in our clay soil. For his special plants.

Last year my gomprena both in pots and in the ground got to about 24 inches tall. I pruned it only to get some flowers for drying or if I needed to encourage new blooms. The deer also did their own trimming on the gomprena last year 😆. I do have another gomprena in a pot which is a dwarf variety and should only get about 8 inches tall.
