Thank you Johnny! I grew up in the 1960's in a little home near Buttonwood at Jane and Weston Rd and my mom took me shopping in Weston. The Shopper's used to be a grocery store called Steinberg's and in the area around the Dollar store there was a Kresge's and a Dominion grocery store. Kresge's was a "dime" store (before Dollar stores) where shoppers could find things like housewares, clothing, school supplies, toys, etc. They also had a little sandwich & soup counter. Dominion's slogan was "it's mainly because of the meat." There were many family owned stores in Weston at that time including children's shoes where I was fitted for many. I remember going on hikes around the Humber River where you were and even wading through the river with my family. The little old church you passed also at the beginning of your video was memorable as my mom would take me to Rummage sales there in the church basement in the 60's. Thanks for the effort in all that you do, it is much appreciated!
remember crazy hill was Kresge parking lot. think our car rolled backwards down it...
My family physician's office is on Weston (you passed it at minute 08:55) so I visit from time to time.
There is definitely a "troubled" vibe to the neighbourhood, but it has equal parts people struggling with addiction and maladjustment, as well as folks trying hard to preserve both the historic neighbourhood and ethnic specialties (eg. Caribbean products at the weekend farmers market).
They are definitely trying, all is not lost!
Excellent opening shot of the Humber River
Johnny strides. 👍
When I first started at the TTC I use to sign the Weston Rd 89 all the time as my route on a late relief shift from 6 pm till last bus at 2am or so back when it was out of the Arrow Rd. garage before the Mount Dennis garage was built. Back when I drove this line there was no express bus on Weston Rd. Use to be a great fish and chips place on Weston Rd. just east of Jane St. not sure if it still there or not but their fish and chips were great. I also drove the 59 Maple Leaf bus as well up in that area as well.
Thanks for highlighting the Westend.
Family used to go to the Scottish Bakery and Scottish butcher shops at the first plaza as you left the park up the stairs. Simpler times 🙂 Thanks for this video
Loved that store...best meat and cheese!
such a great video dear
take care & stay connected
Great video Johnny. Brought back some memories of when I lived in Weston during the 60's. I went to Weston CI and was one of the "Iron Men". Just to let you know, CCM was at Pine St. and Lawrence West. On Lawrence West Ave. Just a few blocks east of Weston Rd. Use to walk by it on the way home from school.
I’m a former “Iron Men” myself. Amazing men memories, although I graduated in 2003 😅.
Good
Morning everyone
Im surprised you came down this way Johnny. Awesome video 👍
Ah my neck of the woods.
Welcome to da wild West(on) or rather it use to be.
Tis the settled West nowadays but still gotta be cautious after high noon.
Thanks for coming back, try to do a summer walk next time you would have seen the lovely flowers on the main street in those planters and on the poles...adds some more pops of colour to the st
I'll have to do that!
My favorite town Weston ah yes
Good morning
The “bad” parts of Toronto look like Beverly Hills compared to South Side Chicago or Compton 😅
Compton isnt bad lmao, you guys let 90s gang movies skew the reality. Houses in Compton are literally selling for over a million dollars
good morning everyone
nice shot of the Photo Hut cement pad 4:55...grandparents lived in weston 60s/70s...was small town...everything you needed...beautiful place...well kept buildings, great stores...class...now...third world...sad.
Hiya Johnny, This one was interesting, slightly concerning mention of machetes' in the chat. Are the Troubles of Weston violent/mix of social issues? I don't get to comment in chats since pandemic due to the busyness of life, but watch & like when I can. It was so nice to see Jeanette on a walk with you, she has been such a devoted follower, generous finacially and present in the chat. In person appeared as lovely as her personality comes over in the chat. I changed my handle due to problem with utube giving information, as an error. I am Gloria, no reason why u should recall me. Thank you for the walk❣️
I used to go to Rim’s Taekwondo above the Pizza Pizza on the corner. Ps: burs stuck on socks is the worst!
It’s a cool library. The Liberians do a good job
The History of this area is amazing and it appears as though it is slowly being absorbed into the 'new and improved' motto, sadly. That artist of that one very distinctive mural has a video showing him creating it. Superb. Hope your ankle wasn't to thistled Johnny.
Thanks for touring my hometown! Great memories in Weston! And yes, Tories in Weston is very surprising!
Hi.johnny beautiful there😊
Enjoyed the video. Too bad that walk in the park at the beginning really messed with your socks.
Great video as usual! The camera is fine Johnny, I saw the CN tower clearly. 😊
Nice morning
fantastic video Johnny
That Ford dealer ( Now Weston Ford) up on Weston Rd use be called Cruickshank Ford for years almost bought a Mustang GT off them in 1989
I went to school with the Cruickshanks
Thank you, Johnny, for highlighting my amazing, quaint, diverse neighbourhhod called Weston. Crime is way down in Weson, but like any other neighborhood, a bit of a drug issue. For your next visit, I would love for you to do a scooter ride and visit Weston Village (comprise of the old beautiful homes over the train track). Thanks to our Councillor and MPP within 5 to 10 years, Weston will be completely gentrified. There's a proposal for at least 12 to 15 condos (no affordable housing) along Weston Road.... no more of those amazing mom and pop stores, which makes Weston.so unique. Sqibbs book store - just celebated 90 years in business. At Weston Commons, there's a Farmers market every Saturday, May to October. Thanks again, and come back in 5 to 10 years it will look like downtown, a concrete jungle.
Awesome Video 😃
Troubled. Come on now
Loving your camara. ❤.
Squibb's you missed
Doug and Rob Ford’s nephew.
7:44 The Building Is Transformed Red To White.
No need to bring a machete along to deal with that jungly park, the neighbours will have plenty to share..
Just a suggestion: Keele and Eglinton.
Johnny, how many condos have been built in the past 5 years. Every video of yours has a local government sign that there building a huge tower block. London is the same as Canada Toronto.
This is not the Church street that goes to the Gay village ?
Different street.
The people that left this neighborhood or Canada in general during the mid 90s are extremely successful now in the US. The ones that stayed to this day are struggling. Canada man, so 'fake news' all hype no substance. It isn't too late, if you can get out, i suggest you do.
I used to work right beside the shoppers drug Mart... Too bad Weston isn't what it used to be!! There's always something going on, lots of people on welfare and lots of refugees!
Hmm graffiti in Toronto ?I am shocked
Oh finally walking threw the real Toronto
Exactly ! always walking in downtown areas.
