Video interview with guitarist Bill Steer from the British extreme metal band Carcass. Poor guy, I really feel for him, Bill you made the best most extreme metal music to date, nothing today is even comparable to Symphonies of Sickness or Necroticism, Heartwork is a piece of ART and even Swansong is fantastic and Surgical Steel is FANTASTIC. You are a LEGEND. I wasn't even born when Carcass was formed and I found out about them a few years back and I don't even live in the UK or USA or something, all the way in Pakistan i found you guys and now you are my favorite band of all time.
Bill is the fucking man! Total class act and down to earth.
Man, they should build a statue of this man! Look up 'death metal' in a dictionary and you'll find a picture of mr Bill Steer. Idol and legend! So down to earth that he doesn't realize he one of the biggest!

For what it's worth, 'From Enslavement to Obliteration' and 'Necroticism' were life changing records for me. I was lucky enough to see Carcass play in 1992 and again in 2022.

Seems a bit sad that the he didn't appreciate just how good and respected they were back in the day. I saw them live at this small joint under the Myer Centre in Brisbane, and they were awesome. And as much as he say's he went of the deep end he seems like a very grounding and calm sort of guy, much respect, love his music!.
I think bill never knew that their fans have always been there . I became a fan in 92 . I just never heard another death metal band play and sound the way they do . Since their reunion I've seen them 3 times and met them twice even had a beer with Mr. Steer .

Bill rules! If it wasn't for me hearing his early work with Napalm Death and the early Carcass material in 1991, I never would have picked up a guitar and started to play music. Thanks, Bill!

Waays! It's hard to hear Steer underestimate his talent and the greatness of Carcass like that in the earlier years. I think I was like 16 when I first heard them and instantly I needed to get all Carcass albums... That was like 1993 and apart from Death, Carcass is the real deal. I'm glad you guys continue to satisfy ppl like myself with your innate talent.
Just wanna share that I have been a die hard fan of Carcass since approx. 1990 and still love 'Symphonies of Sickness', 'Reek of Putrefaction' and 'Peel Sessions ' and still listen to these albums regularly. I heard Carcass live in Pumpehuset in Copenhagen around 1993/94. It was magic!

I grew up listening to this band in the 90s. After swan song the band disapeared. In 2007 they went on tour with suffocation. It was a dream come true for me. Glad they decided to keep it moving. Surgical steel turned out to be the heaviest album ever written. Thank you carcass.
I always admired Bill since I got to know about Carcass, but this interview makes me to like him even more! He's humble and honest man. He doesen't even consider himself as a pioneer of subgenres that Carcass invented! There's an endless respect to you, Mr. Steer! Thank you! Stay safe! \m/ \m/

I never had the pleasure to see Carcass live. But I got a autographed ticket (Jeff Walker signed it) from a Gods of Grind Tour in 1993 or 4 in Hamburg, Germany from my best friend back then. I had all first four albums of Carcass and they were one of the bands whose music made the biggest long lasting impressions on me. I am only just now rediscovering Carcass after 20 year break or so and their music is still as awesome as they ever were. Much respect to Bill Steer and Carcass for defining the genre in such a big way!

For me it was Necroticism and Heartwork. Works of heart, bleeding dark! C’mon. Just the word - Heartwork, and the lyrics to back it up, and the riffs push it right over. Unreal. Still unreal today. But it is all part of evolution. Without Symphonies, Surgical Steel would never have happened. Bill, we all owe you. No pressure or anything.

I think now it is easier for bands to put their music out there and have it be seen. I definitely didn't know about carcass in the 90's but I do now!
Alex lifespan from rush influenced me at age 5 that was why I began playing guitar 🎸 but to me bill is a motivation for me to discover my own sound

carcass has always been a huge influence on my playing
It's so sad that Bill had perceived Carcass in a certain way, being himself and receiving something not completely well.
When you got a band you got so many responsibility, and in certain situation this can bring to a flat mental state: you may feel limited or not, but all that your mind do is always based on a scheduled process; so it's normal for him to search some kind of "new fresh" feelings in playing; but thanks to all the things happened (except for Ken's accident) we got Carcass again.

For me there were only two Death metal bands ever. Death and Carcass. And Bill is such a nice person and of course great guitarist!
I would agree with that, and throw in Obituary. These bands were like a gift that keeps giving, if Chuck had lived who knows what amazing material he would have put forward.

I am a huge fan of Necroticism era Carcass and i LOVE Bill's playing and songwriting but in this interview he is very bitter..... Faith no more keyboardist used to wear Carcass t shirts back in the day ..Nevermind. It's common in good musicians to give such interviews..

It's funny cause HEARTWORK is until today the most epic progressive death metal album ever. It's every death metals band dream. Lol
