    I am going to make this clear. This channel does not support fringe archeology. Ancient aliens did not build the Pyramids. The Sphinx is not 30,000 years old. The Orion’s Belt theory is pretty much bunk. The only aliens around here are the well documented spirits that the Egyptians interacted with as a part of their beliefs. While I believe interaction with these spirits did benefit Egyptian culture and vice versa, they didn’t need anyone’s help creating monuments. They were quite capable of doing it on their own. Any comments arguing these long-disproven theories will be deleted. It is my opinion that many of these theories have a touch of racism in them.

    Man is not alone in the cosmos, nor is his existence a random occurrence. Like a decorative float rounding the bend in a parade, his appearance was carefully coordinated in the procession of time. Although his participation is of great importance, the parade was not organized in his honor, and his float was not first in the procession.

      Something that exists primarily "elsewhere." That can mean in space or across dimensions. It can also be a radically different state of being than our own. The spirit of a plant could be considered alien by our inability to fully comprehend its perspective.

    I’m a bit confused. Even tho I’m agreeing with most of what you said so far I came to one conclusion when I began reading about the ogdoad, in short 1 is all of them and none of them at the same time which makes the symbolic # 7 not 8 but that’s just how I read into it as in the one is the all knowing invisible god and the other 7 are present in our world .

    • @scrollofthothchannel
      @scrollofthothchannel  Před rokem +3

      The literal meaning of Ogdoad is "the eight." The main cult center, Khemenu, means "eight town." I think the number eight, more importantly, two sets of four, with four as a symbol of completeness, was the number being represented. I have not heard of a view that sees them as seven plus one, but would be interested in seeing your source. Keep in mind that later Hermetic interpretations were often far from the traditional beliefs of Egypt. In my own opinion, it doesn't seem the Ancient Egyptians were all that keen on the concept of a universal god, with the reign of Akhenaten being a prime example.

      @@scrollofthothchannel I completely get where you’re coming from but the one that is all and none in a concert is both all there as well as non existent so I took that to translate to yes there are 8 as the group of seven individuals = 1 body with 7 equaling 8 entities but the same one encompasses all is none and all much like the Mayan definition of 0 meaning everything and nothing at once .

    Curious why no mention of Qerḥ and Qerḥet as two of the eight original Ogdoad; I was taught that Amun (as a bit of a latecomer god himself) rather supplanted Qerh. That may not be your personal cosmology, but I would at least think it worth a mention.

      @@scrollofthothchannel both the Wikipedia entry of the Ogdoad and the TV Tropes page on Egyptian Mythology say that Qerḥ and Qerḥet are part of the 8 primordial deities, but are often replaced by other deities
      Wikipedia:
      "The fourth pair has no consistent attributes as it appears with varying names; sometimes the name Qerḥ is replaced by Ni, Nenu, Nu, or Amun, and the name Qerḥet by Ennit, Nenuit, Nunu, Nit, or Amunet. TV Tropes:
      "Qerḥet𓋹 (creation/destruction and life/death). They were later replaced by cults to other deities like Amun, and then the Heliopolian Ennead, which were Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut and their descendants."

      @@scrollofthothchannel My earliest source was high school in the mid-'80's (which, you know, that's hit-or-miss), and then Alberto Siliotti's EGYPT which references Amun as having made pilgrimage to the temple of the old Ogdoad (why would he go to a temple that featured himself?), and for a truly banal answer we have Wikipedia's OGDOAD entry, which states, "The fourth pair has no consistent attributes as it appears with varying names; sometimes the name Qerḥ is replaced by Ni, Nenu, Nu, or Amun, and the name Qerḥet by Ennit, Nenuit, Nunu, Nit, or Amunet. Like I've said before, I am not a scholar. Your question prompted me to look for primary sources on the early history of the Ogdoad, and that search is ongoing. I can say in a general sense that secondary sources claim the Ogdoad are depicted in the Pyramid Texts, 2400-2300 BCE. Meaning they are probably much older and established before then. They also are mentioned in the Coffin Texts, (2100 BCE.) In the opinion of Budge and other scholars, the Ogdoad seem to almost disappear in Egyptian religious texts and then reappear in the New Kingdom, the Ptolemaic and early Roman period. One of the more famous depictions is in the Temple of Hathor at Dendara. Placing this revival around 300 BCE to the early CE. Hope that helps.
