- Silverback Bauwi, leader of the gorilla troop of Burgers' Zoo, has passed away at the age of 33.
On May 13, the doctor decided to put Bauwi to sleep after a short illness.
Bauwi leaves behind 3 sons and 6 daughters and a granddaughter.

Oh no, I discovered him thanks to his brothers Shabani and Haoko. He had a big family I hope he lived a good life.

So sad his full brother Mahali died from a stomach tumor think it’s now only Shabani, Haoko an MBeli that are full siblings that are alive an well. Bauwi was a beautiful silverback
I didnt know mahali is gone,last time that was many years ago when he moved to new zealand.
M'hali died last year in Christchurch, New Zealand

That’s such a large troop too! The zoo is going to have a hard time finding the right Silverback to lead! 😢

@@sonjavandam1306 There is channel on CZcams called the Dodo. They report on kindness done to animals ect.ect. They said that the Congolese were trying to sell 12 gorillas,chimps,bonobos and other primates to China. How they were planning on getting these animals,I don’t even have to guess! There are only about 200 wild mountain gorillas left. China has a pretty low standard of care. Almost like a circus they said. I don’t want Bauwi’s sons sent there! Who the hell is making these decisions! I’m so freakin upset!😣

Momotaro wouldn't know what to do with all the females, he is pretty clueless when it comes to mating.😂

@@bigboytoyz541 I will be honest with you, Japan might have alot of gorillas but it's not a breeding program. Where would they put new females for Momo.
These zoo's are not meant to have lot's of families. Haoko has done well & Bauwi had 9 offspring because of the breeding program. If you look at the 4 single Gorillas that live alone, no offspring & will die alone..Momo & Genki belong together, they are both awkward & it seems to work for them. I wish people would shut up about Genki having another baby. It's all about the $$$$ sorry for the rant.😩

Hello Nina, Bauwi had a chronic health problem. Most of the time this is not showing, but in bad periods it was difficult to coordinate his movements properly. As a result, he difficulty walking.
