    Thank you very much for posting this video. I am having the same problem with an Audi engine. Now I know what to do. 😊

    What is the purpose of the plastic you pulled out of the balancing shaft inlet. Does it have any effect if you don't put it back?

  • @NyTonyF
    @NyTonyF Před rokem +1

    Same thing happened to me when I was removing the exhaust balance shaft. I ended up drilling and tapping the shaft. I screwed in the puller into it and was able to hammer it out. I did use a heavier weight on the puller, that 3lb one wasn’t enough.

      @@RafaelSilva-cx6po with the engine mount removed I was able to lower the engine a couple of inches which gave me direct access to the both shafts.

      So you just drilled and tapped onto the gear itself? I tried removing the exhaust side balance shaft with the slide hammer and the tool but no luck

    Holy crap, I've got a seized exhaust balance shaft, hope I can get it out without having to take the engine out...

    Good video. Tks. What a pain of a job that becomes. Q: Why is there a plastic sleeve on the exhaust side only. What does it do?

    • @SC_MK6
      @SC_MK6 Před rokem +1

      The cylinder head oil return path is through the exhaust balance shaft enclosure. The plastic sleeve prevents the oil from coming in contact with the spinning shaft and foaming.

    Não acredito que pra tirar esse eixo fizeram isso..... Esse eixo vc tira com uma corda envolvendo o eixo dando pequenos impactos para fora ou com ferramenta especial....

    Wouldn't it have been better to remove the screen in the new ones...I know there's a check ball valve in there so would it stay?

    Could this be the reason my water pump isn’t turning its new as well as the pulley and small belt?

  • @pug205gtidriver

    Should the inlet balance shaft pull straight out? Ive noticed there's a threaded hole on the back of my new one??

    • @speedlinegarage
      @speedlinegarage  Před rokem +3

      Intake side has water pump gear on the other side that mounts to the balance shaft. You have take that off 1st before removing shaft.
      It is important to know that that bolt for the waterpump gear is reverse threaded.

  • @mastercng
    @mastercng Před rokem

    were there any codes and diagnostics used to identify this before you pulled the engine? or was there just a noise? was it like a clicking or a vibration that could be felt?

    • @speedlinegarage
      @speedlinegarage  Před rokem

      There was a rattling / tapping noise that would become louder when increasing RPMs.

      @@speedlinegarage rattling from the balance shafts? 🤔
      Something does not add up. I have rebuilt few of these engines, and the ratting comes from either the tensioner failing, worn out timing chain, excessively worn out DSG flywheel ... But from the balance shafts, a rattle!?

    • @speedlinegarage
      @speedlinegarage  Před rokem

      @@mazpr2025 yes when oil screens get clogged and then starts to eat away at aluminum housing then shafts will start to sound like they are rattling. It does happen. Not often but does. Thats why I always tell people to make sure to flush whole engine before driving it long term after engine rebuild.
