Alan Ross Reviews Top Picks:
Pound for pound world champion:
Soundcore Motion Boom: geni.us/motionboom
Amazingly deep bass to 40hz for its size and price.
For a leaner more agile sound with seven more deep bass for the same price try the Mifa Wildbox
Still worth a look:
My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.
geni.us/soundcoremotionplus
£50 champion:
Great bass for its size, Soundcore Boost: geni.us/soundcoreboost
A little bigger but a decent listen for full body sound at a decent price ($50) BOGASING M4 (some distortion issues): geni.us/bogasingm4
Bass Heavy Speakers:
Harman Kardon Go+ (mid and upper bass heavy but with decent balance): Play geni.us/goplay
Onyx Studio 6 (warmer than the 7, maybe too bass heavy in balance): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Bag of Riddim 2: not much deep bass but dollops of mid and upper bass help to give a warm and open sound. A good fun listen but not so accurate in reproduction. geni.us/bagofriddim
Hi End Picks
Minirig mk3 2.2 system: geni.us/minirigmk3
Great for portable low deep kick: Onyx Studio 6 (more bass than Onyx 7): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Monitor Like openess and neutrality but lacks deep bass Audio Pro C3: geni.us/audioproc3
Travel Speakers:
Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does not go very loud
JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.
Bose Soundlink Flex: geni.us/bosesoundlinkflex good bass heavy sound for its compact travel friendly size.
Denon 250bt, no longer made but sets the standard for size/quality ratio for travel (battery drain issues)
JBL Flip 6: geni.us/jblflip6 louder than the Bose Soundlink Flex and has better highs (though too much, bit harsh) but not as full sounding as the Flex.
Beosound A1 1st gen: sounds better than 2nd gen and goes louder but has app, connectivity and battery issues. Very deep bass for small size and clearer than the Bose Flex. geni.us/a1gen1
Best Mini/Micro Options:
Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 (clinical): geni.us/tribitmicro2
Also consider Beosound A1 1st gen (more HiFi). geni.us/a1gen1
Minirig Mini 2: geni.us/minirigmini2
Worth a Look:
W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
W-King X10-1 for form factor and loudness geni.us/wkingx10
W-King D9 for bass with a little smoother signature: geni.us/wkingd9
Tribit Xsound Mega: medium sized mono speaker with fun bass and light show. geni.us/xsoundmega

Hats off to Tribit for allowing backwards compatibility with V1. I'm sure they could have tried to force owners of the original to buy two of the upgraded version if they wanted stereo pairing but it was a nice gesture on their part for it to work with V1. Thank you, as always, Alan for your detailed and thorough testing! 😁👍👏
well im not sure it was an intentional thing? more likely simply having mostly same hardware or at least same chip in the v2 🤷♀️

I absolutely love your reviews bruv. You and Flossy Carter are the tops. Totally entertaining, brilliantly informative. I had no intention of buying anything today, and you talked me into it, with humour and actual bloody science. Superb
mentioned in the same breathe as Flossy carter is as good as it gets! im a flossy fan too 👍💪🥳
@@alanrossreviews You n Flossy ! Do a show together. Hands across the ocean. Both of you are pure genius
Just want to say thank you for your technicality , im a technical guy looking for technical answers in a world full of non technicals, Thank you for this, you earned a sub. . . i think this might meet my needs, relatively flat , true stereo, and with a aux port , so latency should be excellent [in theory at least] thanks!!!
the v1 or v2?
Nice Review👍. Its nice to know that it still sounds the same. That it can pair with the old one is a nice addition.
Thanks! 👍
Very good video as always. I’m going back and watching a lot of your videos because they’re so entertaining. Two of these speakers in stereo really sounds special. What a slam dunk! I have two of the version 2’s and can tell you once they’re connected in stereo they are permanently linked. You asked this in one of your videos, don’t know if someone already answered.
yup they are a little gem 😁
I already have my maxsound plus V1. I am excited to buy this V2 for stereo pairing. Thanks, Alan!

On Alan's channel, I found answers to questions I was interested in so I could form an opinion on the matter. For this I thank him very much.

you speak the truth 😁😁😁👍
Noice. 👍
Great upgrade but I wasn't expecting an even bigger upgrade like even a more precise sound cause it is already impressive .. but I hope a new model of this maybe Tribit Maxsound 2 with a titanium drivers and even deeper bass maybe that can go up against flip 6 and boost in terms of warm bass.

I was searching for a new portable speaker starting from Sonos roam to jbl charge 5 to the new soundcore boom motion plus.. the v2 comes here like the dark knight saving my money and gives me stereo!! Don’t mind the extra steps to pair to the V1 honestly..
apparently they will wireless lock if turned off in right order but i forget that order, try it both ways.
Alan, are you a sound engineer? I enjoy your video reviews!👍👍
Once you have the upgraded MSP(USB C) Tribit would say that you're on the latest firmware. Wished that it had an app of some sort. Also, really tempted to buy a second MSP too
Yeah the clarity you get from them in TWS is unmistakeable, they sound good, nice review!
thank you 😁😁 when do we get the result of the contest???
@@alanrossreviews The closing date is June and I still have to finish mastering the track, not sure when the results are announced, probably July / August, I'll keep you posted.
@@alanrossreviews BTW, things got put on hold a bit because my Mackie Big Knob audio interface blew up, so I had to find a replacement, ended up with the Behringer Studio XL after sending the M-Audio Air 192/14 back. hello Alan, i have a question...i noticed that the auxiliar input have a delay...its normal? thanks you
How good are these for low volume listening, lets say 20-40%? For that do you recommend also a pair of those? Thanks and keep up the great work
The Maxsound plus is very nice for low levels
@@alanrossreviews Will get then 2 og those, we have an sale so around £30 each seems like a really good offer
thats a no brainer!!!!!!!!!!! make sure they are the upgraded version though
Hey Alan! Is it possible to run an aux cable as the input into one of the Maxsound Plus models and enable TWS for stereo playback? Thanks for doing these reviews.
Nope, not with my v1 and v2 pair at least. If a pair of v2 speakers have wireless lock then maybe its possible.
@@alanrossreviews I’ve not heard anyone cover this possible feature in a review. It would be awesome if one of the units could broadcast it’s AUX input to the other unit via Bluetooth TWS. Thanks for response!
Hi Alan. I bought an amazing Tribit Maxsound + and will get another. Very impressed. However, the latency is a serious issue when trying to view movie content. I thought the answer would be to plug in the supplied hardwire cable - but no... The latency is equally bad. How can this be? is there a way to delay the picture output to match the sound??
this is the nature of bluetooth sadly. depends what you are watching, some streaming services will allow you to adjust audio sync
@@alanrossreviews I was expecting latency via bluetooth. But it happens when direct wired from the 'headphone' connection....
@@pjc7085 really, even with wire? That sucks. But I guess that would be one explanation of the cheaper price
It's a $50 speaker, but delay with a hardwired cable seems strange. Never heard of such a thing.
How long of an aux cable are you using that and the quality of the aux cable have a big impact on sound as well but there may be a 3rd party app to use to sync audio as well while viewing content
Nice upgrade from tribit, the should have software where you upgrade your old ones
well its the hardware thats changed 🤷♀️
@@alanrossreviews well they can change alot with software changes too, but i don't think they want. they wont sell much as they think
Does it sound better in aux mode if you have good source like LG smartphone with built in quad dac/amp since it's Bluetooth chipset has built-in DSP?
Against two soundcore boost would be interesting
Could be a good fight 👍
Hey Alan!
What do I think about the Tribit Maxsound Plus vs Tribit Stormbox?
i was never a big fan of the stormbox while the maxsound plus is a classic
who has stronger bass, version 1 or version 2?
Hi Alan I'm still using the flip 1 after 10 years already would this be an upgrade? As the battery lasts only some 1 hour to max 2 hours now
yup!!!!!!!!!!!!! big upgrade

Is there a way to use both in stereo but connected via cabel (as somekind of diy budget minirig thingy) with something like a splitter or I don't know how it could work or if there is something like a splitter? :)
These have 3.5mm AUX-input. So yes, with a 3.5mm stereosplitter and cables, or a stereomixer, you should be able to do this. But straightforward splitting also means reducing (dividing) the original signalstrength per output.
@@Wuppie62 Ok thanks! Now I understand. So in my case it would probably be better to go with the Minirig System which is build to connect multiple speakers for stereo listening with cables so I don't degrade the volume/audiosignal with the stereosplitter approach
@@carlosvenu
I wouldn't conclude this. It's the same situation in principle. But I think it depends wether you split a stereo line signal in a seperate left and right signal, or in two stereo signals. My experience of a small loss of volume is based upon the situation where you split one headphone output into two, for playing over two headphones simultaneously.
The MiniRigs themselves are not stereo. You need two ofcourse.
The MiniRigs are louder than the Tribits, but also waaaaaaaay more expensive.
Hi 👋 what speaker you recommended for by now ? Anker soundcore 3 , Tribit maxsound plus or Tribit xsound go ?
maybe Soundcore boost?
Thanks for another outstanding demonstration
Tribit definitely caught lightning in a bottle with The MaxSound Plus
It boggles my mind that Tribit didn’t stick with what’s tried and true but instead comes out with speakers like the StormBox Pro and the XSound Mega. The Mega is especially a missed opportunity because it’s so close.
But with that said at least now I can pair 2 MSP for TWS, and it was a pleasant and welcome surprise that I can do that with 2 different versions ☺️
i guess more party tuned speakers are what sells in larger numbers 🤷♀️
Have you seen techmoan, with the M90 mini and micro? They are great novelty items. Don't think they will sound too great but claiming huge battery life. I suggested he let you review te sound quality of them as they are sold out already
look cute 😁 reminds me of the sharp upright turntable!
Should I get the upgraded version or Soundcore boost?
I want to buy a new BT speaker as my Tronsmart died. Right now I'm deciding between Maxsound Plus and Stormbox Micro 2. What would you recommend? MS is 43€ and Micro 60€ on the Amazon right now. Or maybe go for XSound Go?
Get the micro 2 if you want that form factor otherwise go Maxsound plus
@@alanrossreviewsWow, thank you for so fast response!
Max sound plus V2 vs strombox micro 2? Which would you recommend? Will be primarily used indoor.
Maxsound plus
#AlanRossReviews ,Hi Alan , can you give me some advice, i have Vifa Helsinki and Tribit max sound plus , i want to buy new speaker , i think to buy marshall Stockwell ii , what is your opinion? Are there any speakers you can recommend me?
all 3 are nice, depends what you are looking for.
I installed the maxsound plus firmware on thunderbox plus and the name of the speaker changes, this makes it possible for both to pair in stereo mode.
Good to know 👍
Maxsound plus upgraded or Tribit stormbox micro or stormbox. Without considering the size, which one is better? Sound quality and experience wise.
everyone is so different, again one of those instances where i have to ask, what are you looking? none are perfect and each have strengths. when you sound stormbox, the original? i wouldnt get that, the new upgraded stormbox pro is better.
@@alanrossreviews thanks. Btw, I'm wondering what's the difference of thunderbox plus and Maxsound plus upgraded?
i bought Max sound plus... Thanks to u
But there is lot of latency in audio via aux port .... Is it my unit problem or it's there with every Max sound plus....
its right there in the specs i showed, 160ms, thats huge, it should be 0 ms.
I just bought one of these and it arrived with zero battery charge. Press the button to power on and it immediately powered down.
Is that usual for these, shipped with a dead battery?
3 hours charge so I can use it.. find the treble really harsh above about 50%. Wonder if could be a faulty/ returbed unit?
Not usual but it does happen. If you don't even like it's tuning id send it back. Clearly you want a warmer sound. What speakers have you liked in the past?
I had distortion in one speaker after a week of use it was horrible sent it back for a replacement and hasn't distorted yet sounds great has some decent bass for the size I know they are more focused in a neutral sound not too much bass to overwhelm the speaker at higher volumes
Maybe I got a defective unit, but I returned my USB-C "upgraded" Maxsound Plus because you can't leave it plugged in. I have a 27" monitor that I use as a TV in my bedroom, and I can leave an Xtreme 3 plugged into it for speakers, and that works great. I can leave the Xreme 3 plugged in 24/7 and it'll stay charged. But the USB-C Maxsound Plus charges until the battery is full, then the charging light goes off, then it won't charge again unless you unplug and replug it. It can't run off mains power. It'll charge the battery once, then drain the battery, then shut off. And it's not going to start charging again unless you unplug it and plug it back in.
yup mine is the same 🤓
btw i just measured the aux on my x3 for lag and it was zero. what version x3 you got?
@@alanrossreviews I have a blue GG and a black NT. It was the NT that I was using. It probably wasn't a big delay, but it was enough that it was a problem. I had it connected to the booth monitor out of a DJM-900NXS and had PAs on the master out, and it was out of sync.
I'll try to actually measure the lag later tonight...
I tried measuring it just now and I'm getting 30 ms in normal mode and 25 ms in LFM/debug on the NT. It seems low, but at 125 bpm a 16th note is 30 ms. It sounds completely jarring if there's a closed hi-hat in the mix.
I'm not sure why I thought LFM fixed it. Well, actually ... It was when I was DJ-ing a birthday party last month on 4/20. I was full of cheap merlot and a couple other substances. That probably had something to do with it.
But it's all complicated, right? The party was in a fenced-in back yard. If the sound is bouncing off something 5 meters away it's going to take 25 ms.
@@alanrossreviews Tested all my JBL speakers 😁
JBL EON 610 1/4" line inputs = < 2 ms
PartyBox Encore Essential 3.5mm aux = 15 ms
PartyBox Encore Essential 1/4" mic = 10 ms
Xtreme 3 GG normal 3.5mm aux = 30 ms
Xtreme 3 GG debug/LFM 3.5mm aux = 25 ms
Xtreme 3 NT normal 3.5mm aux = 30 ms
Xtreme 3 NT debug/LFM 3.5mm aux = 25 ms
Charge 4 normal 3.5mm aux = 33 ms
Charge 4 debug/LFM 3.5mm aux = 29 ms

i never heard the u[upgraded xsound go, i hear they have a bit more bass now

Confused between Stormbox v2 (Usb-C) and Maxsound Plus v2 (stormbox is 5 USD more). In your other video, you said that Maxsound Plus is better than Stormbox when listening head-on. Can you confirm that? Also have you measured latency for Stormbox v1 or v2?
depends what you call better, maxsound plus is very neutral while stormbox was a different kind of speaker, better for 360 of course. i havent tried v2. v1 was quite ordinary. i dont have a latency measurement for v1.
@@alanrossreviews thanks for the reply. Since I just need something for casual music listening I'll go with Stormbox as it had better bass and 360 listening is a plus.
had the V1 for a while. very smooth and warm sound but lacking some bass as most speakers at this size. but if it's just for light listening etc. it's perfect.
