    I have just taken up lawn bowls at the age of 84yrs. I was having great difficulty holding the bowl as taught - it didn't feel comfortable. I watched your video and tried your grip - IT'S FANTASTIC and has made such a difference to my game - thank you so much.

    For me, a fourth year bowler, a great revelation is thecocking of the wrist so that the center of the bowl is in line with the arm.

      +Clarke Slemon Thanks Clarke. Don Sherman Snr, a commonwealth gold medalist taught me that when I was 15. It really takes the tension out of your arm and helps ground the bowl.

    G’day Nev, as a new bowler I am getting a lot out of your videos. Can you advise with the Shooter stance, you have shown it on the forehand, does it change much on the backhand? Also any advise for consistency with the weight and achieving a more consistent length?

    I have not long taken up the game of bowls here in Scotland and I am forever trying different grip/gripping of the bowl/s! I noticed your last 3 fingers are positioned across the surface of the bowl, rather than with the direction your delivery/follow through to your intended line of aim? While your thumb and forefinger in being used/positioned to direct the bowl too your intended target! Could you explain please?

    Do you retain the cocked wrist position throughout the delivery? Or do you straighten the wrist position at delivery giving the the bowl extra momentum?

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      +AJJmusician good question. The main thing is to keep tension out of the wrist, keep it loose and let the wrist work naturally. No Pushing of the bowl with the wrist! Just a loose relaxed joint that lets the bowl release without effort.

    • @AJJmusician
      @AJJmusician Před 8 lety

      +Build Your Skills Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it!
      I'm really new to this, so excuse my ignorance. Previously, I had never thought of using a cocked wrist. This is a weird concept for me but I'm happy to try it out. I'd like to do it properly and not build a 'wrong' technique. Can I ask, that at the point of delivery is the wrist cocked or straight? If I know this, I would be able to visualize the delivery much better.
      Maybe I'm analyzing this too much?

  • @lancemain2409
    @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety +1

    I know bowls is all about going through pre-delivery processes but do you agree it all comes down to the point of release !! Arron Sheriff's a prime example of caressing the bowl.

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      +Lance Main yes the release it very important. Everything else can be right but a small wobble or off timing can cause inconsistency.

    • @lancemain2409
      @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety

      2 questions Nev. Which bowler would you use as an example of technique and delivery besides yourself obviously. And what's the most common fault you see with bowlers ?

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      Hey Lance, Personally I would be looking at Aron Sherriff & Alex Marshall. Have a look at the footwork ;) Most common fault I see with bowlers is poor timing and not playing with smooth rhythm. This game is about flow :D

    • @lancemain2409
      @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety

      Thanks Nev both those guys are textbook smooth & flowing. Is it true the lower you can get to deliver your bowl the better or does it inhibit backswing and body weight going forward??

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      +Lance Main Good point Lance. Personally I would only get low if the green is fast. If the green is slower the stance is higher and you drop when you start the delivery. Low and slow, high and fast ;) (fast greens - slow greens)

  • @lancemain2409
    @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety +1

    Nev a have just purchased Henselite Fusion size 3 the problem is a can't get rid of the wobble with them ? With my Aero Optima size 3 I have exactly the same grip but they get away smooth each time. I can't understand it can you shed some light.

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      +Lance Main Hey Lance, In the past I had some of the same issues. Do the Aero bowls have a Z Scoop grip?

    • @lancemain2409
      @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety

      Yep they do have the Z grip Nev. It's a real brain teaser as Henselite are a reputable brand but it doesn't add up why they wobble is it design or the shape ? It shouldn't happen right ?

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      Its funny you say that Lance. I pulled out a set of Z scoop grips and they came out fantastic. Then I went back to the XG's and started to wobble them a little. I think its because of the wedding ring finger. It sits in the deep grip with the Aero then more pressue is put on it with the XG as the grips are not deep. That little bit of pressure on the outside of the bowl causes a wobble.

    • @lancemain2409
      @lancemain2409 Před 8 lety

      Really odd Nev as I'm right handed so wedding ring not the issue. I've tried probably every model of bowl and only the Fusions react in an adverse way re-the wobble. Back to my Aero s until I figure things out. Cheers Nev.

    • @NevRodda
      @NevRodda  Před 8 lety

      All good Lance, the reason I bought up the ring finger is because it sits in the grip slightly. Anyhow, you will work it out Lance :)

      Hi Byron, The bowl I put down was a demo. In 20 years I have never been called on a foot fault. Totally understand where you are coming from. Simple answer is stand in the centre of the mat.

    • @LawnBowlerUK
      @LawnBowlerUK Před 6 lety

      Byron Hoad Byron, his foot was entirely off the mat the point of release. That's why it's a foot fault, not because he didn't have a full foot on the mat.

    I watched Nev telling everyone how he uses the 'shooter stance', but here his isn't using it. And when he delivers the bowl, his foot is off the mat, which I believe is an illegal delivery. Sadly, it is the little things like this that make me wonder just how reliable his coaching will be.
