    It's a good idea to remove the primary cover BEFORE draining it. Especially if you are using a t25 LOL!

    • @WitchcraftCycleWorks
      @WitchcraftCycleWorks  Před rokem +1

      Your 87 will be an Evo motor. The primary and transmission drains are in the same places. The engine oil drains close to the same place as on the video but there is no drain plug to remove. Look for a 1/2" hose clamped to the frame rail just below the oil bag. You have to remove the hose from the frame to drain the engine oil.

    I have a 2000 Softail Springer and the manual says to check the engine oil upright. I just went and checked the dipstick and it doesn’t have the check on stand writing. The guy I got it from says to check on stand also though. Any ideas what’s up with mine?

    • @WitchcraftCycleWorks
      @WitchcraftCycleWorks  Před 9 dny +1

      @@Brisco1983 The twin cam "A" motors had dipsticks marked for both upright and on the stand, but I've never seen that on a twin cam "B" motor.

    • @WitchcraftCycleWorks
      @WitchcraftCycleWorks  Před 9 dny +1

      Engine oil on all bikes can be checked while on the jiffy stand. If you do an oil change, put 3 quarts of oil in it and see where the level is and go with that mark. On most Softails, a 3-quart oil change will show it being slightly overfull on the dipstick while on the jiffy stand.

    Hey Bill, great vid however, my engine oil drain plug isn't where you indicate on my 1989 1340 Evo. Can ya help a guy out and show me Wtf my drain plug is located? Thx in advance.

    • @WitchcraftCycleWorks
      @WitchcraftCycleWorks  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes. On an Evo Softail, the drain is in the same place, but it is a hose that is clamped to a plug on the frame. You have to loosen the hose clamp and pull the hose off the frame. Your transmission drain is different than in this video as well. Trans drain is a Allen plug on the right side centered below where your clutch cable connects to the transmission.

    • @WitchcraftCycleWorks

      I have to admit I'm an old school mechanic. I don't bother with using a torque wrench most of the time. I use it when it really matters but not for every nut and bolt.

    Softails can be oil drained too remove all old dirty oil from system. Step 1. Drain oil from oil tank. (Like you did here) (It takes 11 engine rotations too cycle oil on system.) With engine start switch "off", rotate engine 11 rotations with starter switch. (removes oil from oil line from tank too filter) step 2. Remove an replace oil filter. 3. Remove outside oil line from oil tank, place end of open tank oil line in empty container. 4. Rotate engine 11 rotations, removing old oil from filter too oil tank, now old oil being removed from last of oil lines into your oil catch bottle. Remove oil container from outside tank line, replace outside oil line back on oil tank. Replace with fresh new oil!

      You need to make a video of this explanation. It sounds intriguing.
