Muscle Car Of The Week Episode #86: 1970 Dodge Challenger 426 Hemi Convertible Video
www.musclecaroftheweek.com - This week, we take a look at 1/12 of the total production of 1970 Dodge Challenger convertibles built with the 426 Hemi V8. Of the 12, 9 were US cars, with the other three built for export. This is one of the nicest restorations in the Brothers Collection, and that is saying a lot!

Love the green on green colors. And hell yeah, I'd drive it!
Drive it? You'll pay hell trying to get me out of it. Great post!
OMG.... What an absolute dream CAR
Awesome story for a great car. Of course I'd drive it! She's meant to be enjoyed!
One of the cars that teenage dreams are made of especially if you were a teenager back then as I was
You are exactly right about the marketing. The Challenger was positioned as a competitor to the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird while the Barracuda ('Cuda) was positioned to compete against the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.
I live 60 miles south of Poplar Bluff in Kennett, MO, but I was only 10 years old when this sweet angel car came to be.
What a beautiful work of art.
I'd drive it every day. Rain or shine. Yep. Made to enjoy. Nothin' like a mountain road right after a rain squall.
Absolutely stunning classic 70 Challenger RT . Very fast and gorgeous and sounds amazing and yes I would drive this mopar muscle every single day ! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!
I remember delivering papers in one of them when I was a kid you can get 130 Sunday papers in the trunk. The wonderful days of childhood.
The availability of the excellent 440 engine for half the price of the hemi option really cut the legs out from under the hemi production numbers.
your an excellent presenter nice videos
Thank you very much!
Gourgous Car !!!! Drive ???? Motor, Wheels, Key, Gas, Drop to Drive....Beauty
Drive it? You bet I would drive it!
And love every minute of it! 😍
Great car and a great story told by a great man!
Wow, thanks for the kind words Richard!
Arguably the coolest car in the world
Kevin another great presentation that's why I love Mopars I would definitely have this car
I just got hold of a '66 Dart slant 6. I am the second owner. Look forward to getting it back on the road.
You make a great video. Glad that these classics are still around for all of us to see. Australia too has a great history of muscle cars.
Dodge Challenger what a car, it could stand alongside modern sports cars and still look and perform like the true muscle car it is.
Modern design that has held up very well over the years.
I'd drive that mug everywhere but I wouldn't park it anywhere except a Car Show😂
Nice, I enjoyed this segment keep them coming thanks.
i need more money !!!! what a dream car !!!
Don't know how I missed this video but HELLS YA DRIVE IT!!! Never had a challenger but started off with a 1969 Superbee with a 383 and 727 then a 1969 Dart GTS also with a 383 but a manual 4 with the dog leg Hurst, next a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 340 and 727 auto then finally a 1979 Powerwagon that had a 360 auto. I wish like hell I would have kept all or just one of them. Great video and story man. SOME DAY!!!
Bro, I got some old captures of a superBee, Mr. Norms Dart, 340 demon, 1 of 1 SuperBird and others!
I would drive it like i stole it. !
every single person to own this car, youre an absolute chad
it´s an absolute Dream Car
AWSOME.... MOPAR FOR EVER.
Such a rare, expensive and irreplaceable car must be given special considerations. You might drive it to shows and the occasional summer stroll but that’s about it. This car needs to be preserved most of all even though instinctively you’d love to drive the shit out of it!
Cool story!!!!!!!!!
Bob Hope had a yellow 440 Challenger or maybe it was a Cuda convertible.
I am a huge dodge challenger fan. Those 1970s are majestics. I will buy one in a future to keep it and drive it on weekends down here in Miami.
This is a car that has a very high value
HELL YES I’D DRIVE IT!!!! You can’t take it with you!!!!❤️✝️✝️✝️
Beautiful
Yes I would drive it every chance I had
Beatifull car😍
very nice collectable
Yumm,had a 440+6 CV IN go mango a/t pdb/ console pwr top....woulda shoulda
If I owned a 1968-70 Era muscle car like this one as rare as it is, I would do very limited driving in it. Primarily as a show car considering its low production. It's a difficult decision to drive or not to drive, however, as a "rare car" owner I would have to be paid a large fee to display the car at a "dealership", and even then trailer it to be displayed. Baby the baby all the way!
If that was an offer to let me drive it I'll definitely do that
Interesting how the convertibles had a special Chrome trim around the windshield
Yes, I would drive it! Cars are meant to be driven!!!😍😎
I would definitely drive it but I would be very cautious when I took it and where I parked it and I would definitely have some sort of security system where I could track it down. Also you need a dead man switch on it somewhere as well
You need to change the intro sound bite of that crispy V8 hitting the rev limiter and use a actual 60s muscle car sounds, like the induction sound when you flipped the air breather lid over or thrush mufflers.
Only on sundays if the weather was perfect and if I had to go shopping i'd park it way in the back with armed guards watching it LOL
I'd love to drive it!.......all day long!!!
los mejores carros
I love it. It just needs a 4 speed and a shaker hood.
It's the car of my dream
The clock also has that arrow thingy on top to let ya know which way you are going...^
I have a diecast model of this exact car!
Yes i would drive it on special days of the week? Every day!
This thing is PERFECT! Love the green! Someone needs to wipe that yellow spunk off the firewall there, some restoration! (Lol, kidding)
(Edit: I would drive it like I drove that blue 70 Challenger 340 throwing sparks and blowing the tire in my 1996 VHS!!)
I have a 197 0 Dodge Challenger RT convertible but it just has a 383 Magnum in it.
Still a very cool car!
YES I WOULD DRIVE THAT IS WHAT IT WAS MEANT FOR
+TheFrameoff not any more they should be in a museum only 12 made if its wrecked they will disappear your kids will never see them except in pictures
Damn right I would drive it- Cars are built to be driven- they arent jewellry! Beautiful car, but it can always be restored- shame to have it sitting silent in a museum.
Way to valuable to drive a exact clone would be the smarter option because like he said it can't be replaced !
I wouldn’t hesitate, not for a second to drive
How much would it cost today if I wanted to buy this specific one?
Considering it is restored, and not original yes I'd drive it. Something can only be original once, but you can restore over, and over as needed.
i feel like this car is only available to the 1% club. I'm Sitting among royalty. I'm so insignificant.
Beautiful car except the colors amazes me that people would choose that. green on green.
Yeah I'd drive it, thats what it was made for.
I wonder how many of the miles on the odometer were registered with the "smaller motor" installed by the Ford dealer. 5:25
You asked if I would I drive it? Sure would, that is why they put tires on it.
$5k when it was new / Several $ Million today. Thanks to the dilligent research on finding the original engine that was put to work in a race boat by a Foward dealer 🤠☻🤠
Ford dealers never were too smart....lol
Good Luck trying to get me out of it! Winter in chicago? Yea? She sits.
It is hard to believe the few number of people who opted for the Hemi convertible.
i have 8 different brands of small and big block cars and i drive all of them if they are ready and able. i almost bought a 70 purple 383 auto but ended up with a 69 440 4 speed Cuda the end of last summer. yes it is not a O.E. rare rich boy toy but i have it,, so it is a one of none and i like that. all of my toys are not in top shape but i drive them like i stole them. rich i am not, just not married.
I bet anything if you had a car as rare as this one you would not "drive it like you stole it". The minute you wrapped it into a pole and seen your six figure investment go down the drain you'd feel like a complete dumbass.
Mind shipping this over to me? 😋
so how many hardtops were made in 1970?
Wish it was still $4900 😂
Id drive it from the east coast to the west coast, then start looking at other continents.
Would I drive it? Yep, I'll pop wheelies with it!
Why not drive it, Jay Leno has a hemi coupe, although not as rare he drives his. Of course you don't want to beat on it. Cars are not meant to sit around
Drive it?... Hell yeah, I'd drive the livin' crap out of it!!! 🤠
hemi cars i thought had steel rims only?
Llifes lesson can be hard learned and full of regret..insigt is valuable..
Hell Yea!!! I'd drive it. Then when it's needs to be restored again find the folks who did it in the 90's. Or, have Mark (the meticulous MoPar maven) Worman at Graveyard Carz restore it. Then drive the crap out of it again for another 15 years.
For export- does that mean right hand drive?
no... most likely meant to go to Canada
and the speedo is broken doing 25 mph sitting still = just give it a tap ?
Nothing is too nice to drive lol
Well, if you can afford THIS car, you can probably afford a second one that's not a convertible and drive the hell out of it and keep the convertible for driving when the weather is nice!
I noticed the clock wasn't working? What's up with that?😁😁
If its rare make as original u can and if its a common classic make it better then it was
Yeah I'd drive it to Walmart.
Cars were built to be driven!! Not stored in a collection like butterflys..life is very, very short...drive the Hell out of it!!
If these cars weren't stored there would be none left. Why is that so hard to understand?
How come some Hemi engines have a Shaker Hood and some don't ?
It was an option.
@@bongodave13 thank you!
Cars are built to be driven.
Its called a "Tick Tock Tack".
That was gm olds. I have one out of my brothers 70 442, was wrecked by dad, driving to carswell airforse base one morning. postive track can get you in the rain.7grand tac 6grand redline it mostlikely hit getting on I30.
best looking auto clock of all time ebody mopars ralley dash.
that's a gm thing....the tack and clock are clearly separate in this car
I like it yet , I LOVE my 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400HO RA lll better.
Power steering? Didn't think you could get power steering on a hemi challenger in 70...
What's the point of having a really nice car, if you're not going to drive the hell out of it? I'd feel sorry for any car that isn't driven and stuck in a museum; or at least that isn't taken out and given a nice exercise every once and awhile.
+Dugie555 Because of the value of the car. Hence the reason not driven
+Slac adjuster Yeah, maybe, but then what's the point of having a car that you won't drive? I'd understand if you would be cautious when driving it, but then, not driving it all is kinda sad then.
+Dugie555 It is kinda sad, I agree with you. But I wouldn't drive it either. You can bet it's worth 6 figures. And I wouldn't wanna drive it around either. Take away the value of it. And if someone runs into you??? Like yikes
+Slac adjuster hmm I can't disagree with you there either, maybe if you were rich enough then you'd probably have your own personal track?
+Dugie555 Nope, but if I'd certainly be in the market for a ride like this....Good luck finding one though
$4,900.00. Give me two
A car that won't put you to sleep, for the anaesthesiologist.
No, I would sell it and buy 10 cars that I can beat on and cruise!
I think that they should let you drive the car in the videos because we don’t know who the guy is
To all the comments concerning having a car and not driving it- and beating the snot out of it, like they should have been driven- I agree with you! Trailer Queens are for wealthy old farts who could care less about driving performance. Drive it or sell it!!
