NOS is a brand i couldn't have imagined would make it this far in two industries. From their legendary status in the Fast and Furious franchise, to the energy drink industry against behemoths like Red Bull. So what has NOS done differently compared to other brands to appeal to the car community and car market? Let's talk about it.
....I NEED NOS

I NEED NAAAAAAWSSSS BROOII
And i need em’ by tonite
Owwww i was about to comment that! 😂😂😂😂😂
I'd seen nos before. But when I was in middle School I played cartown (rip😢) on Facebook. In order to get certain stuff you need like tokens or something similar. You could by them with cash or Facebook credits. Nos and some other coke products at the time had codes under the caps for Facebook credits. So I got the bottles for Facebook credit to turn into cartown tokens. Plus the bottles were cool.
Dave: "unless you have a insane caffeine addiction to where this does nothing and then thats just scary"
Me: "dont target me like that patterson. Its nos David, always has been always will be"
Hope you cover Redbull & Monster as well, not sure if Rockstar attempted to get into the car scene or not. If they did would love to learn about that as well.
I think I may have been the only kid that didn't care for nitrous that much. Forced induction on the other hand was what I was really into. After I saw Initial D, Wangan Midnight, éX-Driver, Gran Turismo or real touring cars (I have to thank TCR and GRIDLIFE for that one) and gt3 and gt4 irl I thought; "Man, I just want to get good at driving now..."
Nitrous is a waste , its cheap but forced induction is way better why would i want power sometimes, its really meh to me i had it on my old trans-am 2 months later the car was supercharged
@@mythicalducky It's not a waste when you already have forced induction and use nos aswell...
A frequent application of nos is to spool up laggy big turbo cars, you can have both.
It’s interesting because I’m an off-road enthusiast as well and at King of the Hammers or Baja races Monster Energy is the big drink sponsor and they give out free Monster as well. It’s like they saw what NOS did in the car community and said let’s do that for Monster but in the off-road community. Very interesting 🤔.
Monster still has a huge popularity in the Gymkhana, Formula Drift, EDS, etc
Same with supercross, monster actually let’s you get in the pits for free if you have an empty can
"Who the hell is this guy?! Where's David?!" [When your Clark Kent disguise works too well...] Lol ;o)
I remember when I first saw it in fast and furious when Bian kills the tracker in the NOS can. As a teenager I had to atleast try it
First time I heard of NOS was when i was a kid playing NFSUG2 for the first time. Rachel was walking through the intro and mentioned upgrades like “NOS” by name! And like you mentioned it went on to show the stereotypical blue flames and hyperspeed look that hooked me into the car world forever.
This video hits me in the soul. Was also a kid growing up playing need for speed but before that it was gran turismo and I thought a Dodge Viper was the coolest car in the whole world. I didn’t understand until later on in life to appreciate the sim aspect of gran turismo or all the types of cars
My earliest memory of Nos was in muscle car mags in early 90's and Super Street marketed it in every mag heavely in mid to late 90's that everyone wanted it in their car.
Dude I miss car magazine's...super street, Dsport, import tuner, more I can't think of right now but damn my teenage years was spending whatever cash I could get buying the next edition and trying to learn
First time I ever heard of NOS was when my family was watching The Fast And The Furious at my uncles house on Easter. I was either 7 or 8 at the time (2nd or 3rd grade, long ass time ago, lol) and everybody kept tryna usher me outta the room, even though about half of them knew I had already caught the car bug long before that. I'll never forget that day...
Keep up the awesome work David
Didn't these used to come in NOS style bottles in the early days? Because I remember them having an orange cap and a much rounder bottle like 2 ltr soda bottles.
Yes a 22oz bottle
I miss those so much
Yup, 10:07, he mentions it and shows a pic
Yeah it's a thick plastic bottle with a orange cap in the shape of the twist knob..still have one on shelf in garage, empty of course.
@@petequinones3454 Then it wasnt a weird fever dream lol. I though I remembered correctly, but the memories were vague. I mean its been what, 15 years or so since they had those?
I kinda wish they'd bring back the bottle shaped energy drinks again though even for a limited time
NOS is not a thing in my country, so when I flew to Canada. I saw a NOS energy drink, I needed to have it. I literally saved it the whole trip flew it with me to my country because I thought it was such a cool thing to own. It's literally just a regular can haha. But at the time I thought it was nice
Actually, I'd say Gone In 60 Seconds which I believe came out in 97 showcased Nitrous Oxide before F&F did. The Eleanor 'Go baby Go' scene. With the guy in the helicopter saying " he's gone"
Gone in 60 Seconds came out in the 2000 dude, and they never called it NOS on screen, F&F started the whole crazy thing about NOS
I don’t think of Brian walking into The Racers Edge when I hear NOS. I think of Vin Diesel yelling NOS at Brian after the green Eclipse got shot up and blows up,lol!!🔥🔥🔥
I was first introduced to NOS at Norwalk Raceway Park circa 1985. Blake Wiggins, Gene Fulton, Bill Kuhlman, Rob Vandergrift and several others were there running a class called pro mod. I was floored when I first watched their runs. It was pro stock on steroids. NOS held a seminar at the nearby hotel during the event and I was hooked, but could never afford it. Early 90's rolled around and a class was born called top dragster my decided to run it with NOS, crower fuel injection on methanol. Everyone thought he was nuts. They said Joe you'll melt that motor pouring all that methanol in with NOS. With the help of Monte Smith my dad was successful and only hurt a couple head gaskets running 6.90's in the 1320 with it. Stock BBC block.
“Unless you have a horrific caffeine addiction then that’s really scary” me hue hue six a day kekw
I’ve probably heard nos before this at some car meet or something but I first heard about it from some sort of drag racing video to which I googled something to the effect of “what gas do dragsters let off”, then apon finding out it’s nitrous it snapped and realize all the NOS branding and the nitro bar in video games were the same thing. It wasn’t the first time but it connected everything for me
I think of both. I've ridden in a car with actual NOS and thought the way the person displayed it was amazing. I also use those energy drinks to go ape-shit. It's the only one that has a huge effect on me.
Funny you say that, nos energy is the only one that gets me going as well
Best drink for long road trips.
I grew up drag racing with my father in the late 90s-00s. He used to run NOS in his Chevelle. I had no idea about fast and furious until I was almost in middle school. Fun brand for sure but as far as drag racing goes I've seen a lot of older guys go from NOS to Nitrous Outlet and Nitrous Express more recently.
I can honestly relate to this about looking up to brands as a kid. For example back when I was a kid playing midnight club Los Angeles switching your car parts to HKS branding would give you the edge on the game. Ever since then I wanted to buy hks parts for my car when I grew up.
Doing H.K.S can be a very addictive and expensive habit.. Just seeing the colors of the brand even with no logo instantly reminds us of their marketing. Purple, teal, black and white automatically sends my brain to H.K.S , as blue and orange together all i see is NOS. Their marketing is definitely successful.
Really enjoyed this video ! The FF move in 01 was when I first herd of NOS . Didn't watch the movie until the DVD release.
I refreshed at the right time, caught this 1 min after upload on my lunch perfecccttt
Man I've drank Nos daily for like 5 years. Its the best. The orange flavor never gets old. And exactly how you said i love how its a Nos item directed for car guys. They hit it out of the park in every way. I first heard it from Midnight Club and Fast n Furious
Growing up I was always around Maryland International Speedway and so I always wanted Nitrous because that was a common thing, you had the “average Joe” ( even though wasn’t cheap it was a cheaper alternative) running Nitrous and if you were REALLY cool you’d be runnin either a turbo or supercharger and if you were crazy/ financially well off enough to work out the problems, you’d be running nitrous with turbos or superchargers. So I always wanted a turbo car with nitrous as those guys dominated the track. NOS though managed to completely get the Fast and furious crowd to market for them as people started using Nitrous and No’s interchangeably. It’s like people in the car community calling all centrifugal superchargers prochargers. And in some regards similar ( but not exactly) to people when talking about firearms using clips and magazines interchangeably.
Like most people, I first heard of NOS from the first Fast and Furious movie. It introduced a lot of the car culture to me and probably a lot of other people too.
Im a car guy never tried nos tho. Maybe il try it now. I really love how they kept the logo exactly the same over all those years. I really hope the keep that going
I actually remember buying the NOS bottle gimmick drink when I was in middle school! And then got to see Chris forsberg and Long Beach drifting! Good memories I agree I love the brand wouldn’t use a NOS system on my STI but if I had an N/A beater I would throw a bottle on for fun.
Hi David very interesting video, I really like your analysis.
I'm going to really show my age here. First time I heard of it was sometime in my teens in the 90's. There was a pay-per-view drag racing event Street Wars Imports vs Domestics in Md and I recall a lot of the imports using it.
hi David. nice vid. liked b4 watching b/c I knew it was goin to be good
The first time I ever heard about nitrous was from my uncle in law. He was a old school street racer from Puerto Rico and he would tell me stories from his glory days of racing around on the island. Shortly after he came into my life the very first fast film hit the box office and we went to go see it in his modified 1987 rx7 glx. I remember him laughing his butt off at the flaming hyper speed nitrous scenes.... but for me that was it, I was sold I would need NOS when I finally got my license and my mom gave me her 2000 civic ex lol it would be the only way to make it fast... good times man.
In the Netherlands NOS is our nation news network so yea I tought of that first
NOS has been in my life since I can remember and that memory was exponentially more set in my memory when I watched the Fast and Furious movies as a kid, sure monster was there and I enjoyed them but NOS just had that flair like no other
Sonic sour is the best tasting energy drink. My dad had a NOS kit in his 69 chevelle. I put one in my 95 Pontiac sunfire😀. Still have the bottle too.
Can we can more sitdown content??? Really enjoyed watching. I remamber getting my parents to buy me a nos energy drink thinking i was so cool keep it as a water bottle for weeks till they throw it out😂😂
I didn’t know that there was a NOS energy drink as I live in the UK but of course I knew about NOS Performance
Honestly I loved the bottles. The cap on the top made it super easy as a young teen to open any bottle. It was the best marketing they could have done, especially at the time, from nitrous systems to drinks and having the bottle appear the same.
I cant remember if the original need for speed came out first or if it was The Fast and The Furious but it was one of them that introduced me to Nitrous.
Crazy I just had one of their energy drinks thinking about putting some nos on my KB1 RL
Was that 2 brand deals in one??? Doin the damn thang thang mane! 😂
I first heard of Nos from Street Machine Magazine as a kid and very soon after saw it in The Fast and the Furious and Need for Speed Underground 2
I remember when I played Need for Speed Underground and you could choose what to get NOS or NX. I got NOS, d'oooh, because I saw it in The Fast and The Furious.
2006 was my first time drinking a NOS. First stop on the way to NOPI Nationals ATL.
NOPI Shows were awesome, I remember ordering tons of parts from them. The NOPI Tour was 🔥..
"Amateurs don't use nitrous oxide, you'll blow your self to pieces"
Thanks to the nice girls at the NOS booth at a NOPI show back in 05-06, I had like 20 shot cups of the drink and end up taking home one of the big plastic Nos can cutouts and got pics with the girls....twas a great weekend! Oh I was interviewed by Charity Hodge from Nopi Tunervision.
So the first time i saw nos was at tje street races in Jersey when i was in high school. Then it hit the screen....and holy cow!
It’s been so long since I had one. But I remember being a kid drinking one out the NOS bottle. Good times.
I still have one of those old NOS bottles on my book shelf.
8:57 Lmao Parodius WOOOOW
First time I heard of mod was in 2000 at my uncle’s garage when he was installing it onto his drag car
I remember black sheep the Chris Farley movie where David spades car had nitrous and there was a leak and they got all high off of the nitrous. That was one of the first times I heard of it
i still remember being 17 and driving to car meets with my civic and having a fake nos kit with a bunch of nos cans in a box built into the truck, people did love it though lol
First time I heard of “NOS” is when Dom said “NOOOSSSS!!!” right before Brian’s green Eclipse blew up which irl I knew that Nitrous Oxide is not flammable lmao
Fast and furious was the first time I heard of nos and I thought it was so cool because of they they way they portrayed it!
In NFSU 1 and 2 the number one thing I always couldn't wait to upgrade was a turbo setup for that sweet sweet BOOST baby! Nitrous was great but I didn't like it as much due to it's temporary nature. Of course just drive close to traffic to get that nitrous meter filled back up. MO POWAH BABEHHHHH
Videos like this are dope
I used to get the NOS blue bottled drinks, loved them, I swear they were a different more caffeine formula. Tasted different, more like sour and less carbonation. I never see them now. Edit: just in general the NOS drink is super tasty to me, one of my favorites.
I’m still using that good ole N2o NOS brand
In México we dont have Nos energy drink, and when I found out I was really confused
I used to drink NOS by the cases back when I was hooked on energy drinks
Nitrous is actually illegal to have in your car in several states. Some states require the seller to keep your name and info for two years also.
i dont evem know about cars but im here.... marketing works!
Yea I love NOS. But we don't have a lot of flavors here in Maryland. I think it was a good move. I heard about it looking at TJ Hunt.
What’s up dude!
I had no idea Monster owned NOS lol thanks for edumacating me
Back in 1997 I was 5 and I asked my grandfather what the blue bottles In The back of the Camaro’s where. At my very first super Chevy show. At good ol New England dragway
N.E. Dragway👍 Easily the best track in North East, if not East Coast.
I rarely drink energy drinks, but I am well aware of the impact of NOS, both as a drink and a car add-on
Early 2000's i heard of it when i was in the army probably around 2002 when i seen the fast and furious movie but the drink didn't come out until 2005
" No let's make it two and Harry, I need it by tonight. "
I can’t wait for you to do another episode of my ride
Dude i. Remember the og nos energy drink bottle with they still did it
The glasses filters out the blue light that comes from the computer screen in the phone
This whole video makes me wanna buy a NOS drink and install a kit into my '94 civic hatch lol.
first heard of it of course on NFS Underground!
If it wasn’t for the NOS booth at Formula Drift a few years ago I would have never started drinking them. It was great marketing
FnF and NFSU1. I was that kid tha thought it made your car break physics
Bruh, I only drink NOS if I need a energy drink. Gotta admit NOS marketing is on point. In Underground 2, I always had to have a NOS logo cause it looked cool. Then F%F happened.
I was like 6 or 7 playing (insert random videogame with nos) and even at that age I was like "oh I didn't know that the energy drink came from the company that makes the go fast juice"
@thatDudeinblue that drink is a knock off, we Portuguese have the same drink! Exactly the same taste
I drank NOS back when it was like 300mg caffeine per bottle. Pretty good stuff lol!
I wish they still had the bottle that looked like nos tanks
Man I live in Puerto Rico and they dont bring them anymore since like 2008...Everytime I go to the US I bring a couple of cans home because it tastes so good plus Hey! NOOOOOOSSS!
Please make more videos like these
"I need NAAAAAAAAZ!"
I about fell over laughing the 1st time I heard that. Funny thing is my BIL is a dentist, owned a couple of clinics, so I got asked about getting nitrous oxide for people. No
I always wondered if the energy drink was made by the same company
I wish they would release the mini nitrous bottle again, I loved those,, but I wish my vehicle had a 10lb bottle in it 😁
I miss the gimmick bottle that's why I bought it😢
Same! I actually thought the plastic bottles tasted better.
@@DanielTheMagicBum It was that BPA we all ingested back before anyone cared lmao
@@joshuakhaos4451 is that actually the case?
@@DanielTheMagicBum Honestly I dont know. I was just trying to be humorous.
All I can think of is the "It has two 12 inch subs, an amp and even NOS" meme
Yeahhhh...I am addicted to NOS....I can say it 😂😂
i feel after this video you NEED to get a NOS sponsorship an put NOS on your 240 Drift coupe :) #fullsend
Every time I hear NOS, I remember the story about the biker who put the energy drink in his fuel tank instead of the fuel additive.😄
I legit forgot they made a drink but shiiiii I want one now
I was probably seven at a hockey rink when I first saw the nitrous bottle shaped nos drinks
Where are the NOS energy drinks? There is a shortage apparently. Can’t find them anywhere!
I will always find really funny something that the CEO/Owner of NOS back in the 00's said to Craig Lieberman (the man that got all the cars for the movie) after F&F 1, he said "I really hate all of you but also love you at the same time, after that damn movie we CAN'T keep up with the demand of our kits, they just fly out of every performance shop in the country" 😂😂😂
Awesome room
When I worked at best buy i used to drink those cause we sold em and they have like double the sugar than coffee or red bulls that shit had you wired.
I wish they still had the bottle
Honestly the purple NOS is super good
Because I have nothing to do with energy drinks, I literally forgot there was a NOS energy drink. When I think NOS, I think Nitrous Oxide Systems
I love nos energy drink in the gimmick-y bottle. I can put the cap back on and not drink all of it in one sitting.
