- The Minnesota Timberwolves shocked everyone, trading up to No. 8 in the NBA Draft to take University of Kentucky Wildcat Rob Dillingham, one of the most dynamic guards in the draft. Plus, they kept the No. 27 pick and took Illinois wing Terrence Shannon Jr. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down both picks, including the thought process behind the Dillingham trade and what to expect from both players in the Wolves rotation next year.

These 2 guards with naz off bench should be able to get buckets
TIMBERWOLVES WON THE DRAFT HANDS DOWN
Shannon is going to be a player for you, you'll see. You don't know how lucky you are. He's special.
we know, he's extremely cool
Tim worth every penny
Love the picks. I think you’re underrating Shannon’s ability in the half court. Watched all three games in the big ten tourney in person, and he TOOK OVER. Was coming off of pin downs, played off pick and rolls in the corner. Was dominant on both sides and seemed to have that takeover ability. Also a bigger physical guard; may be able to throw a different look defensively than the length of McDaniels/naw against a Luka type player.
Exactly!! Highlights from the B10 tourney he is a 3 level scorer in the half court you don't score 23 pts a game just in transition czcams.com/video/qxNnvmksP44/video.htmlsi=5zef-jb1ZD58DQgW
And I said mentioned above, can rebound and gets to the free-throw line at an insane rate.
Also, Illinois ran a bizarre offense where they had a power forward plane and facilitate in the office from the center of the court.
Me love the picks but still not confident in that PF spot.🤣
he's gonna kill this cry baby )
Amazing draft!! I'm so happy about our draft!
I lowkey wasn't sure about thé pick until I heard about his catch and shoot ability, a consistent shooting guard or solid wing shooter is pretty much all we needed in our rotation, im so thrilled with how this draft worked out for us
I heard from others that Shannon can create his own shot as well as shoot and run the floor...
Mike Conley is not 6'4". He's 6'. Huge difference.
And his wingspan is elite for his size at 6 foot 6
Dillingham listed at 6'3"
These picks fit great with Ant's timeline and can help out at some capacity right away. This year Shannon will prob be more of a consistent contributor with some big time splashes from Rob. They will light it up here in a couple years.
Minnesota Timberwolves
A totally tim connelly move. Get a "flawed" talent who others "don't want" in an ambiguous draft. He drafted gobert (too slow no hands no skills) , jokic (fat n slow), Donovan mitchell (too short), jamal Murray (7th pick, not buddy hield not kris Dunn not ingram)
😆 🤣 😂
He’s a genius god bless him and the facts he’s our GM 🫡🔥🔥
Dillingham sounds like a major diamond in the rough. Wolves coaches and vets will need to school him heavily to get decent defense out of him, but the guy already has the most important qual - he can score.
He has some peak Kemba to him and Kemba was smaller.
TSJ had nearly 9FTA a game. Much more than a 3pt shooter. He can be a cutter and attacker. My question with him is if he can be a role player. Take a Troy Brown Jr role.
How did you not talk about Shannon’s FT % and FT attempts per game, both sky high. Also rebounds. Before being asked to score so much also a lockdown defender and a lockdown defender when asked to be by Illinois.
Welcome to the Minnesota Timberwolves of Rob Dillingham
I thought we were picking Dunn. But I trust our FO which is a strange sentence to say as a Wolves fan. And these guys take under consideration other factors as well as stats. Like for example personalities.
Now I do hope we make one more move up and get a big like Filipowski. In general a big to develop.
Filipowski is a bum. Any org is better without him
@@LegacyDrummer Character wise? Oh I didn't know that. Thanks
I've been a Warriors fan for years but was really taken by the wolves this past season. If the playoffs run showed anything it's how desperately the team needs more shot creation next to Ant. It doesn't matter how poor a defender any drafted guard/wing is if they can bring that skill to the table. The team is already so loaded with good defensive players they can afford to hide a guy if they need to. And if he gives effort and plays smart team defence then all the better. There is a world of difference between physically limited but willing defenders and the likes of Luka and Trae Young who give so little effort much of the time that they compromise a whole team and set terrible examples as the franchise player.
Our comments are all telling you Shannon is a steal and you're underestimating him because he is. Even smart draft guys like Wasserman knew. Avery Johnson tried to say it. NBA teams had him rising up the board. If it had not been for that case which turned into nothing but only ended a week ago, he would have gone way higher. He's gonna be a player for you guys.
looks like they're ready to move on from Wendell Moore Jr and Jmac with their replacements.
I’m a suns fan we’re fucked but yall
My second favorite team I can see yall winning it all tbh got elite level defense just got 2 elite level scores to come off the bench yall are really a complete team now
I am a TWolves and Suns fan. It's possible and pretty damn fun. The playoffs were complicated but I choose the team that will go farthest.
@@karlk1004 yall bench scoring is actually going to be insane
Good morning great night 🎉😂
Ben Beaker
Love this first round… gonna be about 90 mil over on tax so are trades coming? But def great 1st rd
Nah, salary cap be damned. The wolves are locking in their roster to make a run at the Championship with the hope that the young players will continue to develop.
Is that with or without Slomo’s, Monte, and JMacs contracts?

Severely underating Shannon's ability in the half court. He can score at all 3 levels and get himself a bucket anywhere on the court. He's a good passer 2.4 apg but he was the alpha scorer so that wasn't what he was game planed to do.
Yuuuuppp!!
Wolves wouldn't have been able to give the mid-level
No more slomo, pleeasseeeee😂😂
Clearly this guy is so uneducated about Terrence Shannon Jr.....the guy can create shots
Spurs got robbed
