The lack of Butterfree is disturbing
Naw, there really stinker is that pikachu isn’t here. One of the highest possible SpA in gen 3.
#FreeTheButter
I literally clicked on this video because i couldn't see butterfree in the thumbnail
As a trainer who had butterfree carry all the way to the 🏆 in my first play 20 odd years ago I agree

@@McMeghan Add something like "0:00 intro" for chapters to appear on the seek bar (I think, some channels don't have it enabled for some reason)!
@@AndrewRKennyyooo that worked !
Blissey in B is crazy.
This is a decent tierlist - the only issue I have is the lack of Poliwrath
polywrath is uber
This is insane.
This is insane.
Insane, this is.
Cool to see some in depth analysis about the OU mons. I dont play gen 3 but am following the adv revival closely
Seeing Lunatome be in the same calibre of viability as Articuno of all things feels almost illegal, making it that much funnier
you are so real for that jaskwak placement
1:08:34 I think that is so accurate. I like that you put in words what I think about those mons. Weezing is an sleep mon, but the same prep that I need to counter/check it it apply almost for Gengar+lax. But I have it in mind if the role can't be fulfill by moltres+gengar.
The only reason I recently used it is because someone passed me a bunch of teams that I felt like trying, and one of them had Weezing. Then in actual gameplay it was somewhat solid but typically I'll use one of Mence/Moltres/Gengar myself on that slot.
@@McMeghan hmm i wonder who would have sent you teams with weezing
Yayyy thank you so much!!!
Thank you young man
You are insanely smart, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us noobs. You convey concepts in the meta game so clearly!
as a new player this is very valuable to me thanks for the vid
Steelix is actually the best switch-in to spedef/offensive zapdos. Immune to tbolt and toxik. Takes peanuts from hp ice. It has roar to avoid getting punished by it's passivity (has to be supported by spikes of course). I like running EQ, roar, explosion/rock slide, toxik with some fire resists on my team. It's pretty good :)
That's true and I could have talked about it! But i think Steelix is extremely limited still because it cannot touch Skarmory, barely touch Gengar and also takes Spikes. Moreover, you often have to pick one between Toxic and Rock Slide meaning you're hard stuck vs common Pokemons regardless. I think it requires too much support for its niche. It's definitely viable though.
Try mimic (tech against Skarm to GET spikes) and steel tail (tech to hit incoming Gengar, or Gengar that want to stay in on you when you get Steelix in, much harder); it’s not so terrible as a general attack to hit other stuff, like pesky Flygon and to chip Zapdos, Aero , Celebi, Mence too (if not ready to Explode on them yet).
Admittedly you may take a burn against Gengar when trying to stay in to Iron Tail it, but if that happens I'd be resigned to know I will be "going out with a bang" and using Exlposion at some point later anyway with Explosion to hopefully get a tempo back.
Explosion / EQ / Mimic / Iron Tail is really decent on the right team, I'd say. Iron Tail def drops are actually going to start to get useful against Skarm , not an insignficant amount of the time honestly. Skarm can't do shit back but Phaze steelix - have Wish support and Steelix is not really going to die too fast with Spikes down.
The trick with mimic is to have something like heracross lead or in before so that skarm should (“has to”) use drill peck. (Well…it may not have peck, and might spike, but anyone who is good will have to reveal peck right then and there if it has it, or otherwise Hera gets a focus punch off for free…) (and also this helps you assume it does not have peck for the rest of the match)…Predict this and go steelix , so Skarm should still obviously want to stay in, and often you can lay spikes turn for turn without losing tempo and match the opponent layer for layer by the time they switch or phaze you out.
This would be at the expense of running roar and toxic, probably. I don’t find those so mandatory; other team members could have these moves…and you match up way better now against Gar and use Skarm against itself turning Steelix into a makeshift, unexpected spiker. You also don’t have to hog a place in your team for Forretress/Skarm/Cloyster, then , when you do this. You can balance the team better with less fire weak mons around Steelix, now. (Don’t even run Magneton , another huge fire weak mom, alongside it because you sort of want Skarmory around for Steelix to do its mimic thing against it.)
Steelix typing is just way too good, yea! You kept talking about how swampert or suicune are the only things making you feel good about switching into offensive metagross, but Steelix is great too for that.
@@michaelnappa8244 you need roar on steelix IMO. not even a question for me.
please time stamp the pokemon, it would help you get more views because people are usually not here to listen to all of them, they want to only hear your thoughts on a few. But I like your opinions, nice job!
Got it, added timestamps in the description thanks to another person who did the work for me.
@@McMeghanshout out to the worker bee's
miss your content so much
Just discover ur channel for the recent adv tournament gg
Really different from BKC's and Jim's VRs. I listen to these at work so honestly I wish it were longer lol.
Jolteon and Blissey much lower than I think but Zapdos that high and Claydol that high kind of align with my newbie impressions of the tier right now too. I thought maybe I just don't deal with Claydol well (which is definitely true lol) but it's validating to hear somebody much more experienced think of it so highly.
To be fair, I'm also much more of a fan/user of these two than a lot of other players, but I'm pretty confident in my opinion and the results back me up ;)
Yeah you're undeniably one of the GOATs. Loved listening to this, you have a pleasant voice and obviously a lot of experience too.
Love these, i wish my boy Blaziken was somewhere in this but maybe it aint that good
Oh wow he must have forgotten. I guess he never plays Blaziken Offense... But seeing how low Blissey is, he has to know how to consistently beat it
I talked about Blaziken at the end. The only reason I didn't rank it is that I didn't use it myself or seen it being used in tour games/high ladder runs in the past 6 months. I say it's very similar to Medicham and should be ranked around that placement.
Je t'aime ❤
Goat
u are very knowledge at this tier
LETS GOO
Zap > Meta is BASED!!! Love it!!
preach
I think a tier between A and B tier would have helped, because you see to agree yourself that some mons in B Tier are much netter than others in B Tier
But besides that, I thank you a lot for your insights and the effort and explaining put into this list
Mmy goat
What's your recommended moveset for the Skarmory S-tier?
Its over cameruptbros we didnt even made it Onto the list q_q
The only thing that feels out of place is Blissey, otherwise this feels very accurate to how the meta plays out.
Agree, feels way too low
Yeah it should have been in A at least. But I really think it's a very abusable Pokemon and I often only really like her alongside Dug and a Spinner for example. Definitely a Spinner at the very least.
Skarm #1 is the sign of a good ranking. He's the GOAT.
if lunatone is here, you already know this is a good list
How do you gather your own usage stats?
Regirock below Houndoom and Registeel.
Idk about that one.
Ün ün ün
Steel w/ a couple amnesia just lives forever and it's amazing at stall so I would rate it higher.
@@trollof229antthevariable9 Regirock has seen way more success in both ladder and tournaments. Registeel is alright but it is easily setup on and is just waiting to be hit by a crit since it has such little offensive power.
Registeel is definitely above it to me. And it's reflected in its tournament usage compared to Regirock. Houndoom and Regirock arent that far apart and it's mostly flavor of the moment kinda thing.
I’m glad Metagross made it into the S tier
Blissey in the B-tier?
Did you make the smogon forum post?
Not yet
The Unfortunator!
What’re your thoughts on dusclops?
only use it because u have to (stall teams)
What are their thoughts on the ubiquitous Dusclops and Duskull Curse core?
Misdreavus / Sableye are more interesting if you're looking at anti-spin Ghosts imo. Dusclops has to deal with both Pursuittar and Dug while having a very exploitable Recovery move. It has some interesting match-ups ofc and will especially be strong vs other "slow" fat teams, and even then Sableye's access to Knock Off is equally as good.
The first 4 in B tier either need to be A or be in their own tier. They are fabulous. Much better than the rest of B tier.
Definitely agree, but while I think Aero/Cune are very important threats to keep in mind, I don't use them that often and I wanted my VRs to reflect my own usage too.
Blissey realistically at least should be in A though.
Smeargle is so good
what the heck is the shiny trapinch
Please apologize to the Butterfree community
Dusclops should be an easy S tier
Why isn’t Lickitung on this list?
knock refresh wish stoss go hard
Would you add Roselia after recent SPL performances?
Fwiw Roselia wasn't used in SPL.
Anyway I'd have ranked Roselia as well as lot of other Pokemons if I wanted to show everything that's viable, but I only ranked Pokemons I had personally used in the months before that VR.
@@McMeghan ah, makes sense! I like that a lot. Also curious if there were any mons that you used that felt totally unviable, that others might think are viable? Maybe not, but curious either way
1:03:00 I thought guts boost for sleep talk didn't work in Gen 3?
No it does.
I think youre thinking of facade
I think I was thinking of facade lol
Hey, um, where is dusclops on this list
Viable but imo outclassed by Misdreavus/Sableye if you want a very defensive Ghost.
This is why adv ou is my favorite meta, because even a mon with mediocre stats such as sableye can prove to be a nightmare to deal with

Where is Lucario?
No camerupt :'(
Still waiting for other people to realize Tentacruel is real.
Me too! Slot it in instead of milotic or suicune in stallier builds and make it a mixed attacker. Much better against Zapdos and Celebi than either of them, imo. Not so passive with threat of swords dance sludge; good resists and immunity to toxic and very passable special bulk. Can EV a little more in HP to enhance , but gotta do + speed max to tie base 100s and give some investment to make naked hydro and sludge stronger. Clear body is preferred!
