Fixing a leaky seal in a Bobcat Swivel Joint. Found a bad seal. 1 of MANY leaks fixed!

  • The Bobcat never disappoints when it comes to leaks. It leaks from hoses, cylinders, parts, and today, the swivel joint! The swivel joint is what gets the hydraulic fluid from the upper structure down to the track structure, which powers the track motors and front blade. It is designed to spin around as the top of the excavator spins independent of the tracks. It is really an impressive example of engineering!
Well, mine is leaking. The top seal (which is mostly just to keep out debris) has become brittle and is cracked, and one of the internal seals is leaking which is allowing fluid to flow up and out of the cylinder.
I noticed that every so often, there would be a wet area or small puddle of hydraulic fluid directly under the center of the machine. I tracked some leaky hoses and fixed those, but the center puddle kept appearing. Eventually I found that it was coming from the swivel joint itself. Yay!
In today's video, I'm going to pull the swivel joint and replace the seals in an effort to stop the leaks. What a pain this job was!
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate every viewer and every subscriber!

I cut a plastic 2 liter and wrap around it to slide seals on worked great

Your 325 seems very tight. All my pins and bushings are shot and sloppy. Did you replace any of yours? Great job BTW and very informative video. Thank you for posting these videos.

Yes, it's pretty tight, but I've never had to replace a pin (yet). I grease it all the time hoping that I don't ever have to! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching!

Good job, probably about as fun to do as going for a root canal! 😂

Yes, haha exactly! I took all the hoses off last weekend and found some with damage so those have been replaced. I'm gaining on it, slowly but surely.... Thanks for watching!

Well done. I just turned mine 90 degrees and lowered it out the bottom of the machine on my 331. I think that they are the about the same frame.

Interesting. I thought maybe I could get it out that way, but there was no way to get it to turn enough with the attachments on the sides hitting things. I wonder if the 331 is slightly larger or maybe the hoses attach in a mildly different way so you can turn it better. Either way, survived another fix on the ol' Bobcat! Thanks for watching and for the comment!

Where did you get the seals?
Do you remember or have a memory of that part #?
    Im about to do mine.

I ordered them directly from Bobcat online (shop.bobcat.com). The part number was 6664908 for all of the seals. In the end, I probably could have gotten away with just replacing the verry top seal, which would have been easier and cheaper, but why not do all of them while it's out? Best of luck to you! Thanks for watching!

Did your seals stretch after you put them on? My new one's seem awfully loose know, I don't know if I can get them back in.

They felt very loose to me. I didn't think I was going to be able to put them back in. The end of the housing is tapered so I was able to apply pressure and used a small pick/screwdriver to make sure the gaskets stayed in their grooves as I inserted it back into the housing. The trick seems to be to not over-stretch them and to let them soak in that heated oil for a bit. Not one of my favorite jobs.... Seems all too easy to over-stretch and break one of those seals.

The control switch? I'm not sure what you're referring to.

On my 322, there is a toolbox on the left side. You have to remove the back plate of it to expose the hoses to swap the controls from iso to cat or vise versa
