    tuohy mentioned in one of her post race interviews that in order for her to do well at the us champs she needs to be able to win in different ways, from a mile out, from 3k out, or from 400 out, and in the past has always mentioned developing different tools in the toolbox to win races, i think this season more than ever before shes been showing that and its reflected in her consistency in various racing situations, thats why her 2023 is looking so exciting

      Yes, injury free. That’s harder than one might think. It requires restraint on her part. To go all out all the time causes injury. Having more to give and holding on is very hard. Getting caught up in the excitement of a race is all too easy and great fun. Coaches help a lot. Still, it’s up to her to be patient and let her talent to grow with age.

      @@JoePalau Very wise commentary. You know whereof you speak. You sound like somebody who ran themselves into the ground more than once. I did it, but I wasn't smart enough to grasp what I was doing to myself at the time. Now, 40 years hence, I can loudly (if not proudly) say I am still finding new ways to invent stupid. Actually, the capacity for stupid gets bigger with age, unfortunately, because in physiology as in mechanics, the warranty eventually expires on the parts.This getting old stuff is way overrated.

    I follow the races of Katelyn Tuohy for some years now. And I'm always impressed by her absolutely aesthetic and efficient running style. One video years ago, I forgot on what CZcams channel, explained why.
    Additionally she is always humble and focused on running. Many other runners also care about what makeup and hair style they have. Katelyn just keeps being authentic.
    I am really happy to see Katelyn Tuohy being just herself, just doing what she likes: running races, and additionally having a wonderful mindset.
    I will be happy to follow her career in CZcams videos during the next years too, from far away here in Germany.
    I hope that I'll be able to watch her live one day, some important competitions are taking place in Germany too, and if it's not that far away, I'll try to be one of the spectators.

      Absolutely. Like when I watched Eliud Kipchoge looking totally relaxed on his way to setting the current marathon WR, he looked like he was almost jogging. But then they showed a side-on view, and the background was just kinda blurring past behind him. World-class runners move /so/ fast.
      My friend once started a 15k road race at the front of the elites (he wasn't supposed to), and sprinted flat-out as far as he could. He led the race for a hundred metres or so before he got swamped by the elites, and he said afterwards that he couldn't believe how fast they were going. And mind you, he was a pretty good amateur distance runner and a talented amateur sprinter. The elites just really are that fast.

    • @Philobiblion
      @Philobiblion Před rokem +8

      I think you have put your finger on one of the keys to her success. Most high school phenoms fail to succeed at the highest levels of collegiate competition because they turn into women, which is natural. They start out as petite waifs with huge lungs, and an impressive strength to weight ratio. I suspect that when most are undergoing the physical changes that come with women-hood, they are not attending to the critical strength to weight ratio. There are vids of KT in high school performing the core and upper body routines her coach prescribed, and Henes has suggested she is as relentless in the gym working on core, as on the track. She has changed, obviously, in her metamorphosis from a forest sprite at age 17. But unlike most, she has changed into part she-wolf, part cheetah. Thus, 'the hills pay the bills." Indeed.

    • @pl8154
      @pl8154 Před rokem +4

      Watching her hands is very instructive for budding runners. The power of pendulum swing that really assists her legs is amazing. The circular motion at the top of her forward thrust eliminates any direct contrary motion so she gets the energy of the thrust without the direct counter dampening. It’s almost a swimming technique. This takes a considerable amount of work off her legs, but most runners don’t have the upper body strength AND endurance so the best their arms can do is balance leg motion. Her arms and entire upper body are engaged in powering through the hips into the legs. She’s a monster!

    • @blakedannion9232
      @blakedannion9232 Před rokem +6

      Her hips are not forward like all the other girls in the field. Her structure is much more like a male. She has a cute girly face and girly voice but the rest of her structure is more male. I think she will put the records into the twilight zone.

    She runs 'flat'. I mean her shoulders do not move up and down, nor her body. All of her energy is going towards moving forward. Look at the ones who came after her in this race. Some were literally "bouncing" every step they took. That is wasted energy. I first noticed this in her x-country win over Parker Valby. Parker, to her credit also runs "flat", so she wins a lot. But the rest of the field looked like they were on a rubber track.
    Look at Tuohy's arm swing. The arms move and the shoulders do not really shift. So the arm swing effort transfers into running energy. She may actually not realize this, so don't say anything in case it should cause her to change her style. But videos of her could be used to train younger runners how to modify their style and put more into forward motion.

    Thanks TRP. Great breakdown as usual.

      Your comment about the short shorts is interesting. I think track kit worn by most teams is closer to beach volleyball than other sporting disciplines. I'm not sure I qualify to have an opinion about it, but here's an observation. The most modest runners seem to be mostly from conservative countries, like Hilda and Mercy, with a few, noteworthy North American examples. Possibly in KT's ACC 3000 (I'm not sure) Norm Ogilvie commented on a runner who was wearing what he referred to as the 'old style, baggy shorts. I think it's like anything else today. You do what you need to do to get eyeballs on your screen. That rule is as old as television itself. And having the most fit young women in the world running around in their bikini bottoms is an eyeball magnet. That Katelyn can serve as a demonstrably reputable inspiration to 100,000 tweenie fangirl Instagram followers, while running around in her underpants, and at the same time suckering dad away from his deadbeat NFL losers to watch women's track, is a winning business strategy and is why KT got the first track NIL.

    • @gregorschmidt6888
      @gregorschmidt6888 Před rokem +3

      I copied her style years ago. It is based on a different movement of the hip like some sprinters do (Usain Bolt would be a good example). The forward lean is the most difficult part of it...a bit too much and the form simply falls apart, a bit too upright and you will immediately get too fast.
      Her style is crazy different from most middle distance runners. You can also watch the mens 800 meter world record of David Rudisha...him running like Tuohy and the rest of the field more like normal runners.

    This is why the NIL is so awesome. We get to see these super special athletes reach their full collegiate potential. It helps she has never seen a B on a report card in her life. I bet there's a chance she just runs to 30 or so and finishes off grad school, maybe never seeing the marathon. 3 olympics would be something like 29-30. (or 2 if she doesnt make this one)

    ngl you have to look into Rayna Stanziano. She ran at Concord High School from 2015-2019. I went to the same school, so I was able to bear witness to her greatness. she would often gap the field by about 200m immediately, then hold that, for the ENTIRE race distance. which was anywhere from 800m -> 5k.

    • @Philobiblion
      @Philobiblion Před rokem +1

      I just looked her up. Rayna is definitely a talented athlete who I believe is at one of the several Saint Mary's Colleges in the US. Interestingly, she was the U20 second place to Brooke Rauber, NC State freshman and emerging star, in the 2020 US Cross champs.
