Verdi Falstaff Opéra Royal de Wallonie 2009

Perhaps the most famous comic character in the Shakespeare canon, Sir John Falstaff is a man who, despite age, wants to keep enjoying life's pleasures, having fun and ..seducing ladies. Two at a time. He has the bad idea of sending out two identical love letters, so when he's discovered the two ladies plan revenge. A series of turns of events follows.
Boito and Verdi created a libretto that is truly brilliant, for an opera which is a great monument to humankind, celebrating the profound, simple values of the Renaissance man.
On stage there are only organic, simple handmade materials that allow the characters to be deeply understood and "recognized" by the audience.
