    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Davey (Henry Thomas) is relieved to find his dad (Dabney Coleman) piloting the plane, but they have only a few seconds to escape before the bomb goes off.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Juvenile actor Henry Thomas, late of E.T., is the star of Cloak and Dagger. Given to telling whoppers, Thomas finds himself in a boy-who-cried-wolf dilemma when he overhears two spies plotting to smuggle valuable info out of the US. When he can't get his own father Dabney Coleman to believe him, Thomas turns disconsolately to a computer game called "Cloak and Dagger" and begins to fantasize, imagining that he is in cahoots with secret agent Jack Flack, also played by Coleman. Finally coming to grips with the fact that the mythical Jack Flack cannot help him this time, Thomas takes on the spies with the help of his schoolmates, who are also "Cloak and Dagger" addicts. Cloak and Dagger is a heavily disguised remake of 1949's The Window; both are based on the Cornell Woolrich story The Boy Cried Murder.

    Dabney Coleman was interviewed by the AV Club a few years ago (check it out, lots of good stuff) and he said that even up until the time of the interview he'd get approached by either fathers or sons who'd tell him that this was their favorite movie to watch with their dad or son. So he was quite proud to have done this movie.

    • @hbkryme
      @hbkryme Před 7 lety +4

      I did some thinking though, and here's what I believe could have happened....his father never really acknowledged Jack throughout the film. We see the first time he acknowledges his being in the plane when he pretends to be "Captain Jack Flack." Hal from that point on immediately begins acting like Jack, with quick instruction and coming up with a fast plan of escape. He helps Davey climb out the window and drops him to the ground. After the explosion, he simply walks up to Davey. With all that being said, here is my point......did Hal perish on that plane? When Davey runs up to him and asks how he escaped, he's answered with "Jack Flack always escapes." Even though Davey proclaims he doesn't need Jack anymore and that he now has his father to look up to, the film ends on a freeze frame of Davey hugging the man. Could it be just another figure of Davey's imagination? I'll leave you this in closing......Davey confused Jack for this father as the explosion erupts in the background. He never once confused them both throughout the film until now... who's who in this situation? The film's sheer brilliance only allows one to come up with a theory like that. Cheers, my friend!

    Davey and his father enjoyed life together for many years. His father became a grandfather, and then a great grandfather.
    Great-granddad always loved playing with the kids, giving them each a special figurine.
    Davey passed away decades later, never knowing that his father was killed in the explosion, his body reduced to nothing by the force of the blast.
    Because with the death of the father, Captain Jack Flack had found a way to come back, and never face 'not wanting to play anymore'.

    I've been trying to find out the name of this movie for over 10 years ever since I was a kid! I remember getting up in the middle of the night on a Sunday morning, went to the living room to watch a little bit of TV and I saw this being played in Spanish. They called it Espionaje (spanish for Espionage) but I didn't know what it was really called in English. I was sad for the boy when I thought the dad died in the explosion, but when he came out I thought "Yay, the dad's alive". After it ended I went back to bed and that was the only time I saw the movie. Didn't know the name of it until now. I had no idea that Henry Thomas from E.T. starred in this.

I didn’t know the name of the movie at the time, and at one point, I even thought I dreamt the plot. I remember it being really dark, but had no way of finding it. Then randomly 15 years later I found it again on HBO and was relieved I wasn’t crazy and that the movie actually existed lmao
