- I don't normally enjoy manga, so I was surprised how entertaining the movie was to me.
I wouldn't even gave it a chance if I knew it was based on manga - all I knew about it was that
it was supposed to be "Action, Horror, Sci-Fi" (as the movie describes itself) with Aliens causing trouble at night.
The whole concept which I don't want to spoil for you too much is very interesting.
You die = Gantz (mysterious ball) will recruit you to fight against "monster" Aliens that cause trouble
at night in our world, with the reward being - if you collect enough points, you can be set free and live your life as normal again, or you can resurrect someone else that died and continue "playing".
You see, it was like a game - aliens VS humans and each "player" will get points at the end of the game depending on the evaluation by the "gantz". The thing is, to some this is hell - as you're forced to fight the aliens each night until you gain enough points, or die (again I might add) trying to.
Makes you think that they do live in "Matrix" or a computer game of sorts, and there will be some big revelation at the end. Love the mystery behind it all too.
This was the first of two movies (to my knowledge) that came out so far, with one 3D animated (also very good) coming later. I highly recommend Gantz series to all that love action - there will be plenty of - and blood and gore.
This is my favorite Alien from the first movie - I love that each alien was completely different to the previous one and kind of "funny".
It's all so wacky - I love it!
Just note that most of the people didn't know yet what is happening to them (their first or second hunt), so they looked "stunned".
Should have put on English subtitles for you guys too, but not much is spoken here anyway.

スーツ使う時、筋肉がボゴボゴ言いながら盛り上がるの好き
渾身の一撃加えたと思ったらガラスが割れて一気に形成逆転されるところ、結構好き。最後の最後まで結果が分からん展開好き
フロントガラスってヒビは入っても中々割れないようになってるから、ガンツスーツの強さがよく分かる
よく見たら、ニノの渾身のパンチで田中の顔思いっきり凹ましてるの面白い
何度観ても台詞回しが玄野そのものだしどうしても短尺になる実写の良さ最高に引き出せててすごいわ
GANTZの実写化は数少ない成功の例だよ…
これ含めデスノート、カイジら辺はオリジナルも良い感じに組み込んで120分でちゃんとまとめられてた…かな？
なお全ての作品に松山ケンイチは出演してます
カイジは、落ちるところ以外完璧
ロボット自体は何の変哲もないデザインなのが逆に怖くてすき(語彙力皆無)

いざ言ってみたらリアルだと何言ってるのかよく聞こえない状態なったからわかりやすく聞きやすい死んだになったとの事。

I love this. The slow teleportation, the alien chicken in a robot suit shaped like a Japanese folk singer, the schizophrenic conclusion. It all aligns perfectly.

Anime/manga movie adaptations are always either a hit or miss, with a majority being misses. Both gantz movies were great though, especially gantz O

俺が小さい頃、田中星人がトラウマだったけど時がたった今この映像見ると全然大丈夫だし原作読んでわかったけど田中星人の中身って鳥みたいなやつで地球の環境に適応できないからあのロボットの中に入ってるって考えて見ると何か可愛く思えてくる

I almost forgot about the original Gantz since I like Gantz-0 so much. Both uniquely awesome movies.
I’d be honest, this adaptation is pretty damn faithful and actually very well made. I’m surprised it hasn’t made its way to Streaming services in the NA and Europe

Don't know much about faithfulness, but me as a uninterested manga noob enjoyed it surprisingly too much. It certainly was very well made and it would attract wide audience including myself.

I wish that they can make more GANTZ movie like this with the same cast. The CGI, music and colors are perfect. I want to watch part 3,4,5 of this movie 🥲🥲🥲 What a pity, they're change all the plot and end it in GANTZ 2.

The actor who played Kei kurono was 28 years old when this movie was released in 2011, so it would be difficult to make a movie with the same cast again because of the high school student setting. He is 40 this year... He has always had a baby face, so his appearance hasn't changed much, but I guess there is a limit to everything lol.
Nishi doesn't look despicable enough as he was in the manga.

I appreciate Japanese filmmakers for working on risky ventures and always trying to step up their content quota.

GANTZの実写がしっくりくるの、原作である漫画がコンピュータによって3Dで絵を描いていることに起因しているかもしれない。
Anime felt like a stretched out movie. This film felt proper length. Good cast. Very true to original plot. Good visual effects. Interesting behind the scenes documentary also. Of movies based on Manga, this has to be in the top 10.

Pretty interesting to read that! Because I watched the Gantz anime for the first time and totally thought the same. I never really noticed the stretching that much in other anime but it was so extreme here imo. One episode was literally just 15 minutes of Joichiro begging for his life but refusing to apologize to the delinquents, back and forth for so many minutes while the robot loaded his gun in front of him for half an hour. My god lol the pacing was so weird
No, the pacing wasn't weird. It's l psychological. The longer such scenes drag on, the more you get attach to the characters. Hence once that character died, we truly felt it afterwards. Attack On Titan did the same thing.
Now pls listen me out properly: how can a film like this be this underrated next to so mich (im sorry not sorry) highbudget-lowquality crap out there? U described it very well Enilenis, this one just felt well casted, well acted/directed (death scene on car roof, really good acting DAMN), nice effects, very true to the original anime and on…. Crazy how much quality can be ignored or never be found just like this. Explains why so many filmproducers choose to make cheap crap aka easy work for good money. Im out :)

Tbh the anime is pretty old so not really worth watching. You are better off reading the manga first, it's good. Also watch Gantz:O. It's a good movie. The plot is only a side story tho and didn't happen that way in the manga.

From when I was a kid I love to believe that Gantz and Men In Black actually happened in the same universe. In both world aliens exist and secretly lives alongside humans. Both MIB and Gantz also have their own Neutralyzer. The only different is that MIB purpose is to protect aliens but Gantz, he assigned some people to kill those aliens for no reason for points. I think MIB can't operate in Japan because Gantz will destroy them as mission target but Gantz can have an american team because MIB can't see them. By the final catastrophy events, my guess is that MIB has been completely eradicated by the furious aliens that was provoked by Gantz. Fucking amazing theory innit? 😂.

The truth is that the men in black have better technology and a much more advanced and disciplined training, agent J and K survived in many suicide missions without actually dying, and you haven't even seen chainsaw men

Anyone else yelling "SHOOT IT, D*MB*SS!" when the robot stopped for a moment, allies completely cleared, but instead he lets the robot target and rush him instead?
He was totally useless, but he learned the hard way...
I did not know that this was a thing. I will have to watch both of the movies.
