He wasn't the one that had the problem when his friends abandoned him, they were. They lost out on knowing this phenomenal man. I am so glad he found the courage to be himself, and that he has the support he needs to share himself with us in not only his music, but himself as a man....love this guy....he is just awesome!
Well he grew up in Hull in Yorkshire in the UK. That's a very poor, rough, blue collar traditional area where men need to be tough and macho. Any sign of weakness gets ridiculed and punished.

When I first watched his audition, I bawled my eyes out. Apart from how amazing his voice is, his use of the gendered nouns and pronouns in the song struck me (“Does she love you better than I can?” “I’m not the guy you’re taking home.”). The song told a different story than the original. It hit me hard ‘cause I went through a very similar thing where my ex-boyfriend left me to be with a woman. My thoughts during that time were reflected in the song so starkly, I was blindsided. Afterwards, I thought, “He must’ve just gone for the original lyrics and didn’t bother changing them.” but I got confused because of the “I’m not the guy...” part. Hearing his song No Matter What, I’m even more of a fan. I’m in love with the soul of this man. Damn.

He actually did change the original lyrics. Just one word. The original song says “I’m not the girl you’re taking him” but him changing just that one word to guy changed the whole emotion of the song. And it’s crazy because a lot of people didn’t even notice that. They thought he sang the original version and didn’t both changing the “she” to “he”. But yes, his song “no matter what” is so good! It gets me emotional every time!
Hearing him singing that song, I immediately wondered, is he gay?! The lyrics says it all!
Aaaand I just got the news that my ex and his girlfriend is getting married. 😂😂😂 A friend from our group of friends just asked me to make a congratulatory video for him ‘cause all they knew when we were together was that we were close friends. 😂😂😂
I had the same thoughts as you regarding his choice of pronouns. I wasn't sure what was going on.
I think his voice, his mind, his smile, his sexuality and his art make him the brilliant man he is today. Be proud being yourself. We love you 💙

I know its a cover from Robyn, but is not awkward at all to change the lyrics...actually its totally normal to accommodate the gender. What we don´t know is if he did it un purpose or not, but it doesn't matter...his cover is awesome, and his singing is even better.

I'm straight, but his rendition of Dancing on my Own took me back to middle-school prom when there was this girl that I had fallen in love with and she didn't no that I loved her. That song absolutely took me back to that longing and heartbreak of seeing the one you love be with someone else. Love truly is universal, and heartbreak is universal.

His talent supercedes sexuality, it's spiritual. When he sings I can't think of anything except how incredible his voice is. Whomever he loves will be blessed. I hope he finds happiness and love because that is what his songs gives me.
I didn’t know he was gay, I met someone and fell in love instantly. Calum’s songs are significant to my love for him and though it doesn’t change a thing, it feels nice to know that this artist is gay and writes songs about real love, his personal conflicts written in form of songs.

That first audition, my God, he said it best of himself, it was just raw emotion, everyone can see that. During the audition, you can see him look over at his sister several times, I guess looking over to see if she is alright, she though is just simply overcome with emotion at how amazing he is, giving him several nods saying "I'm okay".

Well, I'M IN TEARS. I've admired Callum's audition performance and had no idea he is gay. How generous and kind of him to share. I've worked with kids and youth 4-to-19. They need to know who people are. Even kids who aren't gay need to know adults who are happy, productive, successful, and who have endured difficulty, WHO ARE GAY. Bahahaha Brandon, you just cracked me up! I had a feeling he was when I watched his You Are The Reason video for the first time a few weeks ago, but wasn't positive. Someone mentioned this fact on the comments of that video, and some of the ugliness that came from that just broke my heart! It is ok to not agree with something. It is *not* ok to be hateful because of it!

Hell, there has never been a man who got executed for being straight in all history of mankind. it's in no way easy.
