    I got this kind of rain barrel from someone in our neighborhood, but it didn’t come with any instructions. This video was incredibly helpful and easy to follow. Thank you!

    After five years my hose cracked where yours takes a sharp turn to get into your barrel. This was no doubt due to the stress at that point over the years. Ideally the diverted should have been mounted on the thinner side of the drain so that sharp turn would not be necessary. Are you aware of any diverter kits that attach at a right angle, and to which the hose is attached straight on?

      This diverter is 3X4, and the the hose is at the 4” side. I think they should make at least 2 kinds of diverters, one is facing 3” side, one is facing 4” side. Actually my downspout is 2.8”x2.8” square one. I like it because I can turn elbow to the side of house, so it won’t be damaged by my neighbour’s lawnmower. But this diverter won’t fit, I don’t want take risk to waste $40, it is way too expensive for a piece of rubber.

    You may need to use some plumbers tape around the threads of the Spicket if it leaks.

    Thank you so much for this useful video! I recently bought this model and confused about the way the diverter works? It has a hole, but won’t the water fall off from the other side?

      Hi! There are 2 directions you can place the diverter into your downspout. One will allow water to flow into your barrel. Once the barrel is full, water from your gutter will automatically flow back down your downspout. Flipping the diverter 90 deg. (diverter hole facing down) will allow all water from your gutter to flow fully through the downspout. Hope this answers your question. Thanks!

    Is it possible to collect rain water to the barrel at the same time have water flow down the spout?

      Yes, the earth-minded diverted does just that❤

    Can this diverter also work as shut off? If water fills up the barrel then the water will fill the diverter’s outer layer and flow down from the inner circle to the downspout?

    • @currysforkwatershed6262
      @currysforkwatershed6262  Před 2 lety +1

      That's correct! Once your barrel is full the water takes the path of least resistance which is to continue flowing through the downspout.

    How do leaves and shingle gravel still flow down the downspout with the diverter installed. The hole in the diverter hardly looks like it will allow many leaves flow thru. Is this a problem. Thanks

      This could be a concern. I personally have gutter covers on my roof, but for those that don't I'd recommend occasionally removing the diverter from the downspout to inspect . This could also be noticed if the barrel isn't filling properly. For all rain barrels I recommend not using the first flush of rainwater each season. This is when the most debris, chemicals, bird droppings, etc. will be mixed with the water.

    Wearing gloves while using a drill can be dangerous. I know a guy that lost the tip of his finger by wearing gloves and using a drill. The glove got caught in the end of the rotating bit and ripped the tip of his finger off.

    Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't see how a donut-shaped object diverts ALL the water into the rain barrel? It seems like a portion would flow into the outer rim and then into the barrel while water coming down the middle of the spout would bypass the rain barrel off ramp. What am I missing?

    • @currysforkwatershed6262
      @currysforkwatershed6262  Před rokem +2

      Not a stupid question! You are correct that some water will still flow down the gutter. However, it is easier for the water to flow into the barrel and once the barrel is full all water will continue down the gutter. You're going to collect way more water on your roof than will fit in the rain barrel so it's really not an issue.

    Beware! Dont buy this if your barrel inlet is on the top of your barrel because eventually your barrel will overflow. There iis no shut-off. This diverter requires a side inlet to your barrel, that allows gravity to stop it from overflowing. They do not explain that in their information.
