Kelly Slater puts new wax and traction on a brand new 5'3 Cymatic, designed by Daniel Thomson for Slater Designs, built in Firewire's Linear Flex Technology.
Humbling to hear Kelly Slater say he’s gotten stuck inside and struggled to get up some days at Haleiwa. Now I don’t feel so bad when I’ve had tough days out there.
Awesome Coooooooool!!!!!! It would be nice to see Kelly riding in a longer video and every single board that you guys have.... Thxxxxxxxx!!!!!! Greaaaaaat Coooooooool video!!!!!!
@@n8dawg85 i personally like thrusters over quads unless i'm riding something that's more barreling where you're setting your rail so i wouldn't have the best answer. i know lots of people like it as a quad though.
I grew up with Dan Mann in Coronado, Ca. He is a solid shaper and surfer, not to mention just a great person. He shaped me an epic 6'3" thumbtail that turned into a magic bored. Surfed it in all conditions from hollow Baja Malibu to fun Sunset cliffs. I ride Mannkinds, chilis and Lost. Great boards for around Socal. Try one out Aloha
Looks like that. Smooth, fast and with decent control, but that's probably just Kelly. He's experiencing with different fins and working on making his own too.
Much of it has to do with the judges preference for pointy noses which is why Kelly usually rides custom LFT shapes by Dan Mann when competing, and most often rides a Cymatic when he's free surfing.
Yeah it's a bit ridiculous - listening to Tomo talk on the podcast about how so many fell in the wave pool comp due to the pointy nose. Kelly learnt that lesson years ago - I watched him ride this super short board CI at the Quiky Pro at DBah and in my view his surfing on that was a level above everyone else - but of course the judges deducted about 2pts off per wave - frustrating that the commentators always talk about progression
WSL surfers generally don't surf epoxy boards in comps because they don't go as good as PU. Even Kelly when it gets to the pointy end of competition reverts to polyester. Its really easy to spray a PU board to look like an epoxy polystyrene board. Full nose actually catch at the nose more than pointy nose boards. watch the video Kelly catch's the nose. Pointy nose boards perform way better in bumpy lumpy conditions.
@@firewiresurfboards If square or full nose boards go better wouldn't the surfers on the tour be pushing the judges to alter the system.I personally have noticed that the standard . of surfing has declined generally as a result of both the pushing of epoxy and square nosed boards on the general surfing population.
Does he still ride this board? And if not, why? I’ve seen the hashtag “drawing newlines” on some his sd insta’s but this is the board that’s really drawing new lines…. I don’t understand. I’m going off of the recent and most current footage taken and posted and there’s no Cymatic nor any new variation under foot. The “new” FRK+ is same old same old… why?
Would be great but unlikely, for half his carrier he was way ahead of everyone else, but young kids have caught up and some do some aspects better than him like airs etc, but if the tour had a year of really good waves especially big barrels...you never know...still the greatest surfer ever and greatest surfer of his age.

Kelly is seriously the greatest ever. Even his stories are epic
He made that take off in the white water look so easy.
On a tiny board too
Love watching Kelly surf !

Still killing it! Bummer about his foot. He'll be back before you know it 🤙🌊🇺🇸
love my cymatics. i have two i go between. my everyday boards outside of the moonbeam. hoping you guys do a helium cymatic at some point as well
Just bought one🤙 do you recommend a thruster or quad setup for it?

Cheers for your tips! Guess i’ll try my reactor thrusters first & maybe buy some reactor rear fins down the track👌
@@n8dawg85 yeah you will like it either way. that board turns on a dime just by thinking about turning it. really really great board.
What break was this?
Awesomeness
Kelly, when we going to see you ride Chob’s Seaside design?
Pretty cool to see him surf quads
half an hour to stand up... need to level my own surfing expectations lol
Hey Kell mind if we catch a few waves today. Or are you going to catch everyone
Any more footage of that session?
Wondering the same. Cool to see him out in stormy Haleiwa, and not just pristine marquee spots.
Thinking the same
also what is this mann board we keep seeing kelly riding in hawaii? think he might have surfed it in the billabong pipe pro?
wolf Kelly and Dan Mann have been working on it for two years and it’s now done. We’ll release it soon, but that’s a secret, so don’t tell anyone. 🤫😉
@@firewiresurfboards awesome! looking forward it!!

what happens when you take off the wave like a ramp... into the air... can you hover off into the sand bar? cool
Is he running the performer quad rears with some glass flex front fins?
Looks like that. Smooth, fast and with decent control, but that's probably just Kelly. He's experiencing with different fins and working on making his own too.
Not glass flex, he usually rides a full fibreglass fin for stiffness.
‘Da 🐐
Nice ......
Looks like Haleiwa
always wondered why those designs are not used in the CT

@@firewiresurfboards thanks for the response, It definitely sounds like judging in the CT, which pretty much resembles judging in gymnastics...

I just got my first Cymatic in the new Volcanic construction First surf i loved it.
I’m thinking of replacing my 2019 LFT Cymatic with a Volcanic….
Still waiting for Slater to come back this board, he looks wild 🐐 surfing it…🤙🏽
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The locals have this spot wired.
It boggles my mind he hasn't won his 12th Title yet. I feel like this year he'll go Jedi on everyone and win.
Jetty 1502 nah rob machados gonna return and win it all

Indo Bule tru john John Florence doin airs is just something else man
More foam.
What up Slate’s?
Slater’s boards always look like skimboards now
The size not the shape
Wtf is “cymatic”??
Mike B it’s the board kelly was using
Joseph Jones ahhh. Ok . I thought they were trying to kick up their vocabulary. LOL
