I wish you could do a 3 to 5 minute segment of bank fishing with a square bill for us bank fishermen. 🙏. None the less great video
Great idea
That would be very good !
Agreed.
Do it bro. 👊🏾
Bank gang
would like to see more bank fishing videos as many of us don’t have a boat and are weekend bank fishermen.
If you do get snagged dont yank on the bait! Pause and let it float and lightly shake it, usually the bait comes free but it wont if you sink the barbs into whatever your hung up on
Watched this video last night. Put my new knowledge and new crank bait to the test today and scored a really nice bass. Thanks for a video.
I absolutely love using square bills! I throw a square bill from early spring to late fall along with other baits of course but the square bill is my confidence bait. The square bills catch the "snot" out of fish!
You rock man! You've helped me to easily explain different things about fishing to my son in a way he understands. Plus I'm definitely learning more myself.
#1. Thanks for shootin me a bird buddy! #2. EXCELLENT VID! I took notes! #3. A vid on squarebills gettin one-upped by a Texas rig!! Lol - You sir, are quickly becoming one of my go-to sources if info. No hype, no BS. Just rock solid advice I can actually use. I rely on Bill Dance for that also. You're in good company!!
You are the reason I started fishing these in April 2017 and DAY ONE I caught a handful of 3-5lb ladies plus several other solid fish (family farm pond) bouncing them through wood stake beds.
Awesome.
I took the knowledge from this video straight to the water. 45 degree water, slow rolled a red craw square bill with no rattle and immediately caught a 3 pounder. Thanks Gene!
That's awesome. Congratulations.
Absolutely my favorite bait to fish! My top search bait is the Spro Little John 50
great tips gives me more confidence in using them more thanks flukemaster
Excellent excellent excellent video Gene! You knock this one out of the park!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Something that goes over looked most times is trolling a square bill at least here in Florida where the depth isn’t very deep through the whole lake. Every fish caught trolling this year was on a KVD square bill! Great video!!
Thanks for your videos. It’s a lot of work I’m sure. You do a great service for us new guys.
Great video Gene! Thanks for all that you do.
My pleasure!
Killer sqaurebill video. I think you covered all the bases with that one. Tight lines brother!
Bank fishing a square bill would be great viewing, perhaps something for the future 🤞. Great informative video 5⭐️. The Englishman 👍
GREAT Informative video, keep up the great work brother
Love your teaching videos. They really help. Thank you very much. Love all your videos.
Squarebills are awesome for all year long fishing. I like to use a wide wobble all the way into early fall and then swap to a flat sided square bill for the winter. Though there is an alternative way to use them for me. Sometimes I throw them straight into thick grass lines that most people would fish a drop shot or Texas rig or something like that. Works great!
Great show buddy! Always learn something from you.
Glad to help
Good video. Well presented and very informative. Thanks!
Great tip on writing the depths on the baits, I've done it for years, it helps a lot. Also, I've gotten into the habit of labeling the weight of any lure I can right on it.
Bought my first glass rod for square bills the MegaBass OrochiXX Swingfire and I’m blown away at the sensitivity plus overall control I have over the lure. Just don’t ever let up or the rod unloads and the hooks disengage, game over.
Love the graphic intro. Good stuff as usual
Really great video! Loved how it was so detailed ... thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
All jokes aside gene, I’ve caught more fish listening to your advice than anyone else. Thank you.
I appreciate that JB
Me too man. He is meticulous and right down to the very detail about any bait, lure, or presentation he talks about. You can tell he devotes a whole lot of time to create this content and I couldn’t be more appreciative of him for the time he takes to teach us recreational fisherman. He really is the best on CZcams and deserves a lot more subscribers. I recommend him to everyone I know getting into bass fishing and those that have been fishing a while tha want to improve.
Awesome video thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video💯😎🎣🎣
Just the video i needed!
Agree with Fishing Evangelist on the bank fishing video using Squarebills. I love throwing Squarebills. Right now, I’m using a 6-9 MH MF Lew’s Custom Speed Stick paired with a Lew’s Tournament MB 5.6:1 with 12lb Seaguar Red Label spooled on it. Love this combo. Appreciate your videos. Always enjoy watching them. 😎👍
Good stuff!
Thank you. 😎👍
I bought a square bill on a whim at Walmart and boy that was a decision I did not regret. Being new to bass fishing I was iffy about hardbaits, but I have caught all my best bass on a square bill. Even today it was rough and the the only bass I caught was 2lb on a kvd 1.5.
Great educational information. Big thumbs up!
Big thanks
Great info.....wished this came out a few months ago. Would've helped me in buying my new baitcasting rod and reel. 😔
Man I've been slaying them on a squarebill this year. Never used them cause I was worried about losing alot of money getting hung up. But since I learned how to use it, it has become my confidence bait.
That's awesome
Man you just schooled the heck out of me on square bills... I’ve been wondering why I have been so successful with them. I wish I could give you a hug..😁👊👊👊👊👊🎣🎣🎣🎣 thank you so much for this video 👍👍👍👍👍
Glad to help
nice boat! that’s such a huge difference from the old boat in the early videos.
Definitely!
those are some great tips right there! can't wait for that square bill bite to heat up! its a bit too cold up here in MA for that yet. jean im curious if u have ever experimented with braid to a floro leader? ive been using that combo for my jerk baits this year and its been pretty mind blowing how well its worked. excited to try it for my square bills.
I’ve caught 3 out of my 4 pbs on a square bill. I actually caught 3 5lb plus in 30 mins on one. Definitely my lucky bait
Great video. I fish 2 lakes with ALOT of small laydowns in spring before the weeds come up. Only thing I do differently is I cut the 1 point of the front treble off. If you lay the front hook on the belly, I cut the 1 whole point off that comes out off the belly. It's amazing how much less I get hung up on laydowns & it also really reduces the amount of grass/weeds your squarebill picks up. It doesnt affect the hookup ratio either.
Sounds great!
Thank you. Wanting become a better crankbait fisherman. This helped alot
Awesome video!!!
Thanks!!
Great informative video, the knowledge is much appreciated!
Any thoughts on using inline hooks on crankbaits?
Thanks man. I've never considered inline hooks.
That rod give is super important. 👊🏾
Great video
Thanks!
Some good information!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video.
Thanks!
Question for Flukemaster What is it with the Rapala DT series of crankbaits they are great fish catchers but after using one steadily for a day or 2 the always start to suspend then eventually sink. Not what you want out of a bait when throwing it into the WOOD.
Excellent video Gene! Very informative. And glad to see your son catching a hog! Great release on her too...
Thanks 👍
I'm glad you started using a cameraman/woman. Very helpful to see where you're casting. We don't get to see that on some of your videos.
I hear short shank hooks by owner American help with hang ups because the hook doesn't hang as low an with that you can get a size bigger 👍
Great video! Can you do one on wake baits next?
Great suggestion!
nice video bro !
Glad you liked it
Went today water was 64 and muddy caught mine in 3ft-10ft on a firetiger square bill great video
Awesome
Awesome video so surprise you didn't get a hit on the rocks it was perfect conditions for it!
Me too. I'm sure it's because that lake is right in the middle of the spawn and most of the bass are in more protected areas. Next week after some of them pull of the bed they will be back up there.
@@Flukemaster makes sense appreciate the reply and love your videos, God bless and stay safe!
nice vid
Really dig the intro music you’ve been using
Thanks man. This was edited by my son. Not bad for his first time producing one of my videos. He's already better than me.
Very good video
Thanks
Good stuff. Today I have a plan. Yesterday I was determined but with little success.
Excellent!
I think you should write a book about what you would do and what you would fish with during every part of the year
Hey, I also live in Georgia and I’m wanting to know what you think about Jackson lake? I know you’ve done tournaments there but I’ve fished there 5-10 times and not caught one fish. I call it the Dead Sea because it’s been that to me. I’ve only had success in private owned ponds. My guess is that I can’t locate the fish. I don’t use electronics at all. I watch everyone of your videos to figure this stuff out.
Love the video. I’m building my collection of square bills. Would your approach or cast be any different sitting on a Kayak?
No. It would be the same.
Hi Gene, so for that tree where you said dont cast from limb to root ball, how would you attack that from the bank? I try to run my squarebill as close as possible without running into the limbs because I've gotten snagged way too much!
I'd fish the trunk as best I could and try to hit the limbs at a 45 degree angle from the trunk. So several yards up the bank from the base of the tree.
I'm a complete noob to fishing and trying to learn as much as I can. Great videos to do that with! Question - Can these baits be "tuned"? It seems that I have heard that somewhere before.
Yes, absolutely czcams.com/video/mRf6I58PH2I/video.html
@@Flukemaster Thanks for the quick reply Gene! Love seeing your son out there enjoying this with you! Maybe you need to make a video of you behind the camera and him teaching what he knows!
i wonder how the 1.5s compare with the Bass pro brand squarebills
A square Bill never comes off my boat Deck....Pre-Post..spring...Winter........
.Summer. Go Dawgs
Have you tried lure clips? They're kind of like those snaps but think more of a paperclip design. Just smaller (depending) and beefier. I've been watching a lot of UK content creators lately and they seem to be pretty popular over there. I'm a believer in tying directly myself, but I've been thinking about trying those clips out.
Do you no longer use a medium fast like you have stated in a past video? What made you change over if so
Yes, I still do.
Using a snap on the split ring will actually allow the bait to wobble wider. It creates another hinge point .The line then does not have to follow to the full width of the swing of the bill, therefor allowing it to wobble wider. Its a minute difference J.M O.
Love your videos man!!!! Just curious, What happened to tackle Tuesday yesterday?
I let my son try his hand at producing and editing this video. He used my computer most of the afternoon so I didn't get a chance to finish my Tackle Tuesday. You'll see it next week.
Hey man nothing wrong with that at all!!! They have to learn and start somewhere man, good to see he wants to be so involved. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything lol
I'm no video editing expert but seems to me like he did a great job with it!!!!!
He's way better than me.
love the fact that u just don't put new hooks on every new bait seems like a real waste of money to me if it does not need new hooks.
I bought a cheap electric engraver from Harbor Freight to mark the depths on my baits, it works great, it will last forever.
If the bill is clear I usually mark the bill to keep from scratching up the paint job🧐 It just depends on the color scheme as to where I place the engraving
Good stuff
7 UP...Yours!
😂💥😉🎯
🔥
Gene if I'm fishing out of my kayak would a 7'3" give me a better hookset since a kayak will move towards the fish
In theory yes.
I been crankin with Mono for 30yrs
do you use scents on your crankbaits?
Would a medium-fast action or a medium heavy-moderate action be better? I don't like the super noodle feel of a medium powered moderate action rod.
If it was a medium moderate glass rod then it would be a noodle. The one I'm using is perfect for it.
If you was a tackle junky....WHICH I AM....HOW MANY DIFFERENT COLORS BECAUSE THE KVD 1.5 COMES IN 56....I USUALLY BUY 3-6 of each color I buy....ARE SQUAREBILLS GOOD FOR SMALLMOUTH
I did not quite get what to do with the snap. Was he saying leave a snap on the bait and then tie to it every time? I wish he would have shown the bait with the snap in a closeup.
My biggest problem is my reel speed I’m not sure what is considered “slow” vs “fast” any tips?
@Flukemaster hey I’ve been fishing a pond in front of my schools library in Statesboro Ga for the past couple of days now. I know there’s life in it there’s tons of turtles including a huge snapping turtle so I know there’s life in it but over the past three days I have thrown Weightless/bullet weighted Texas rig worms and crawfish, half and quarter ounce rattle traps, and jigs with no luck. Any advice
Including square bills and deep diver cranks
I bough 6th sense MVMT 80 without realizing that it’s a 3.1 inch. Is that going to be too large? Should I be looking at a different size/what 6th sense do you recommend?
Nah, I just like smaller cranks. It will work just fine.
Gene, totally off topic but I wanted to ask your opinion...I kayak fish but I'm looking at buying a boat...I see a used Lowe Stryker 17...good looking boat but the beam is a bit narrow at 75". I want stability especially when I'm on big water like Lanier. Any feedback you could provide would be much appreciated.
It's actually an Alumacraft Pro 185 It's very wide and very stable and because the hull is made from one solid piece of aluminum it it's a smooth ride on big water.
@@Flukemaster Sorry I meant I am looking at possibly buying a used Stryker 17. I know you fish from an Alumacraft...such a sweet boat! A little out of my price range though LOL! Thanks for taking the time to reply.
how do you measure water temperature
Did you ever use the old excalibur trebles?
I remember them but haven't seen them in years.
Does anyone know of any veterans groups that fish together in GA? I’m in Athens.
Slow reel...me breaking out my 3:1 Shim Curado B
Can you make a video of situations where it’s acceptable and not acceptable to use a snap
Hay ,A 6'10 med mod , jerk bait rod works good ??? 😎
Yep, it's the same rod that I use for a jerkbait.
Be a lucky dude that got to fish with you. I’d take y’all out for a steak dinner afterwards.
What’s on his hat?
Do a local "fish with me" giveaway. So we Floyd county guys have a shot lol
I love that idea but I don't know if I want you guys knowing all my spots on Rocky. LOL JK
@@Flukemaster I'll trade you. I'll take you to calliers golf course and we'll bank fish for hogs lol
Fishing Lanier?
Nope
First comment like and veiw
You rock!
I hate not being able to go fishing
Me too man. I hate it for all the states with clueless governors.
Dang. F u too gene! 😂😂😂😂
these guys who get their baits for free have forgotten how it feels to lose a bait that cost you 6 or 7 bucks. they just tie on another one.
I haven't lost a bait in a very long time so I'm not sure what you are talking about.
Dude has some serious acid reflux problems. Every video I've seen he looks like he's trying to hold it down.
It's called Celiac Disease man. I've had it for 25 years and I do all I can do to reduce it but even if I only drink water it still happens. It's not reflux.
You burp a lot in your videos lol
it's caused by Celiac Disease
