  • My honest review of the 2022 Ford maverick is one of the best examples of a reasonably priced truck that give good old ford performance and mileage and towing like a midsize pickup truck, price for this xlt is just under 30k.
    Our goal is to give everyone a honest review of what it's like to live with these vehicles that the designers have made for us. Is it good or is it trash?
    Thank you all so much for watching

    I paid $23k out the door for an XLT eco boost. I have 6k mikes on it and I’m still in love with it. I’m also not a huge fan of the orange. I don’t like the cubby hole at all tbh…wish it was just a bigger screen. The cubby behind the screen is ideal for large sunglasses. You get used to the dial shifter pretty fast. I average 31 mpg in normal drive mode.

      Just got mine exactly a week ago. I just drove 25 miles in a major city with TONS of stoplights and averaged 30.4 MPG. That was with 2 adults, 2 kids, and at least 500 pounds of vacation gear in the back. It’s borderline fun to drive for me too. I can use it to run my boat detailing business during the week, and haul the kids around on the weekend. All of this for 28.5k OUT THE DOOR with for the XLT 2.0, CO-Pilot 360, optional 110 outlet in the back seat, AND A Line X spray in bed liner. Bang for the buck is awesome.

    Technically, it does not have a fully independent (rear) suspension. It's a torsion beam suspension and it works well enough. Mainly a cost saver and actually preferred in the case of this truck. The interior is also a love/hate thing... that cubby-hole is ridiculous and I can only speculate it was a design flaw or cost cutting measure as a larger screen was voted down. Good review.

    • @jg8263
      @jg8263 Před 2 lety +2

    "...Could be better...." Yes, but that means it cost is going to probably be nearly 20% more cost and thus takes away the easy entry pricing.
    With that, I have learned over the years the mid-cycle refresh is the best. typically all the bugs or mechanical issues are worked out by this point and the refresh brings better looks most the time, in addition to more options or more included in each package for a better bang for your buck feel.

    I love my 22 ford maverick..we’ve had it since December 2021… we got the XLT with the luxury package..we love ours..with that said there is a few things I wish ford would change.. the hockey puck shifter is one for sure… I get used to driving with it and then I go to drive our van I forget where the shifter on the van is.. just a little annoying… now for the engine noise, not sure why.. but ours does not have any engine noise.. it’s very quiet and a comfortable ride..now the next 2 things I really wish ford would change… when you get into the vehicle you decide what drive mode you want.. I always select echo .. then when drive to your location stop and turn off the vehicle it goes right back into normal mode and if you forget to change it back to echo you do lose some gas mileage.. it should be when you select echo.. it should stay in echo.. plus if you turn the vehicle on it should say “ vehicle still in echo..or what ever mode your in.. simple click “ok “ to let the vehicle know you want to stay in echo mode on the steering wheel instead of have to cycle through the drive modes every time… the next feature Is the auto shut off when you stop the vehicle.. yes I can see that would be important for the hybrid but the 4 cylinder echo boost engine should not… or at least have the ability to shut if off and leave it off.. cause again when you shut the vehicle off it will go right be to auto shut off mode and let’s be honest.. it bugs the heck out of me every time I stop at a red light the vehicle shuts off…and do we really NEED this feature??? I would say no.. maybe in the big cities with lots of traffic but again durning the summer when it’s hot, when the engine shuts off .. so does your AC …so I would pass on this feature all together.. ( please ford please come out with a fix ) now with that being said.. I love my 22 ford maverick.. there are awesome little features I just love.. like the AC .. if you have an incoming call on your phone and you answer it while your plugged into apple car play or android auto..the Truck will turn the fan speed down on the ACso you can hear who your talking to plus the person on the other end won’t hear AC fan noise and you won’t have to keep saying “ WHAT? WHAT? CAN YOU REPEAT THAT!! I just love that cause most of my time in the vehicle and my business I’m on the phone…also I love all the strange storage that’s going on in the vehicle.. again I basically work out of my vehicle and I have a place for everything even the funky door cubby he showed..now again I love my maverick..you could not give me enough money to get rid of it.. we had a 2007 ford ranger before and it was just a 2 door vehicle..well back in 2007 when we got it we didn’t have 2 boys..now we do.. so my wife would have to dive the van to drop them off to school.. and before I get home I would have to go swap vehicles so I could pick them up from school.. so we waisted lots of gas before we got our maverick.. having a vehicle with 4 doors is a must if you have kids and take them to school..or where ever…now, I think we were one of the first ones in our state to order the Maverick and I don’t care where we go ..Walmart Home Depot krogers ..don’t matter..we can come out and 9 times out of 10 there is someone standing at our truck wanting to know either what it is.. or do we like the truck.. blah blah blah..and before we know it they are sitting in our truck wanting it… and I do tell them the good and the bad .. but most is always good.. we came out of Walmart just a few days ago and there was a doctor waiting in the 98 degree heat so he could ask what kinda of truck it was and do we like it.. I sent him straight to the ford dealership.. also right now with gas prices the way they are…we drive the maverick when we go see my mother in law.. 2 reason really.. one last time we went we got 36 miles per gallon on the highway.. 2 ..we splurged and paid 10 bucks a month for internet in the truck so it’s a WiFi hotspot..and trust me when you have 2 young boys on a long trip.. they need entertainment.. not sure how I got along when I was a kid..seemed to remember making a lot shapes with the clouds..anyway back to it.. yea.. the internet for the kids is awesome.. especially for us..my oldest son has autism and him be able to play his iPad helps so much.. again just another little feature that’s awesome… so I guess basically what I’m saying is and if you missed it the first few times I said it..I LOVE MY MAVERICK!

Much to my surprise, when I went looking there weren't any small trucks anymore. When I saw an internet story about the maverick last year I was in the dealership placing my order in June of '21. Finally got it a couple of weeks ago and can't be more pleased with it. Yeah, it has some shortfalls but this truck was literally half the price of anything else out there. I ordered mine in sept of 21. Took delivery in march. I think it looks great. Not trying to be slick like the Santa Cruz. Just trying to look like a smaller ford truck. The interior design is good, too. And the cubbies are versatile and useful. ( except for that one next to the screen ). I agree the shift knob ought to have stops. I agree that the truck ought to remember what mode you had it in, and you should be able to make the engine shutoff feature OFF by default. But those might be corrected in a software update. I got the AWD with tow package and the truck can haul its full payload up a steep grade without you even feeling it. It takes corners like a sedan. And the undersea storage in mine holds everything I might need out on the road, from road flares to jumpers, to load straps. I’ve hauled plywood in it and the tailgate feature for doing so works great.
    The XLT has 110 outlets, inside the cab and in the bed, and the rear seat and front seat have usb and usb-C charge ports. And I have had 5 full grown adults, two of them over six feet tall in the truck and no one was particularly cramped. The front seats are still roomy enough even when you pull the seat forward to make more room in the back for tall gomers. All in all, for 30K its the best value on the road for anyone that needs something that can haul people AND materials.

    Would be in one today if they sold for $26k…all dealers in their area are throwing on a $10k mark up…(over msrp which I thought I would never pay). Got a call from a dealer near me in Ashland VA, rushed in as it was the XLT trim & color I wanted, arrived to find they had marked it up to $36k! Walked out and refuse to pay anyone that mark up.

      That's me. My old 87 F150 with the v8 got about 9-10mpg. My car averaged about 25mpg. Needed something to replace both. This is only an inch longer than my car was, gets great mpg (my hybrid has averaged 39mpg for 8k miles), it's a car that can do light truck stuff. Have a small 5x8 utility trailer and can haul some stuff (lawn mower, helped a friend move, took some stuff to the dump, etc). But it's just a fun ride that doesn't bust the bank and it sips gas.

    Can't wait to get mine in 2023! All signed up to build when they get released, I've always been a Ram guy but I love what Ford is doing these days with trying to give dealerships the middle finger. I need a daily truck with better MPG and 4x4 or AWD for the work commute in the snowy north.
    I don't care about the looks whether or not it's a "real truck" and can pull 6000kg because that's what farm trucks are for. I need something that can take light payloads from the hardware store or landscaping lots and will get me to work safely in bad weather. And for the 30k tag, you can't beat that

Ford actually knows what they are doing with trucks, while Honda only really made a bad SUV with a bed.

    Thank you for the review and for your honest feedback. Here's some feedback. REVERSE your video.
    Payload is 3/4 ton - 1500 lbs, as you mentioned. THAT IS GOOD!
    I agree the Ranger SHOULD be this truck.
    Needs more charging ports, at LEAST 50% more for both the front and back.
    The prices your quoting are higher than the Indianapolis area: XL - $19,995 XLT - $22,280 Lariat - $25,490
    The cubby on top is to hold a GPS or other device.
    The deep cubby holes are for long items like Umbrellas etc. Things you use when you're getting out of the truck.
    Thank you for sitting in the back and showing us what it is like!

  • @opiegonebad58
    @opiegonebad58 Před 2 lety +1

    Nice review. I agree, most reviews are glowing about everything good and nothing bad. It is hard to find reviews that point out some of the shortfalls. I will however say, some of your negatives can be easily countered by "this truck is literally less than half the price of any other truck out there". When you pay half the price for something, you are going to give up some of the nice things you get in the expensive truck. For instance, back seat room. Honestly, who is going to put two 6'3" men in line like that? Nobody. If there are two 6'3" people riding, they will be either both in the front seats with short people in the back (I know all about that being 5'6"!) or they will be staggered so the knee room isn't as big a problem. I have the XL bare bones hybrid and it is a fantastic bargain, especially for those of us who have retired from our construction careers, don't need or want a big truck anymore but really like having a car like vehicle with the benefits of a truck bed. 42 MPG is an added bonus! Ford has a huge hit on it's hands with this 'hole in the market' filler.

    Get the higher end Maverick with the big engine and FX4 offroad plus towing package for only $36,000 fully equipped and you are set. That higher-end version STILL gets 27+ MPG and it can even go off-road which TFL truck and other channels have ALSO tested quite well! I've even seen local ones that are LIFTED on M/T tires with nice self-built back-bed canopies and roof-top campers. The Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline can't compare price-wise to that sort of functionality. It's $7000 to $10,000 USD more to get the same functions!
    I'm VERY IMPRESSED with the higher-end workplace-bought Mavericks so far and am EAGERLY awaiting an all-electric version with 300 mile range!
    Sometimes ya just gotta bite-the-bullet and SPEND the extra $10,000+ to get the higher end trim level to satisfy your inner cravings for interior luxury features plus off-road and towing capability!

    The Maverick is NOT a mid-size truck. Don't mislead your audience. it's a compact truck. The last time Ford sold a compact truck in the USA was in 2011 with the old Ranger, and the Maverick is even slightly smaller than that.
    Some of your complaints have been addressed since. The orange interior accents? Those become black if you get the Black Appearance package. said package also includes black seats, black door panels, black interior accents, blacked out headlights, black exterior trim, smoked tail lights, and black wheels.
    The reason the truck is so cheap is that it's not built like a truck. The Ranger and F150 are traditional trucks, with body on frame construction. The Maverick is unibody, like a Toyota Corolla. It's built on the same platform as the Ford Escape and Ford Focus. This explains the size, price, drivetrains, and unibody construction.
