  • Here is the mega rare 1971 LP by British Heavy Blues Rockers `Universe`. Formed in 1968 as a blues band Spoonfull, they changed their name to Universe. In 1971 while touring in Norway they recorded and released this their only album on the Norwegian label `Experience Records` (EXPL 2001). Only 300 original copies were ever pressed and only a small number were sold with the official album cover, making this incredibly rare. A copy sold via discogs in 2016 for £1353, another copy via ebay in 2015 for £385, while there have been some reissues its the original 1971 release on experience that sells for `Big Bucks`

based in Cardiff, Wales, formed in 1968 as a blues band Spoonfull. In 1970 the band changed its name to Universe. In 1971 they were touring in Norway, where they recorded and released their only album Universe (1971) as 300 copies and only a small part was sold with the official album cover. In Britain they did many collage gigs supporting Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, Chicken Shack, Man, Black Sabbath and many other early 1970s bands. They eventually disbanded in 1972.

There were a lot fewer distractions back then, no internet only rudimentary video games. Also rents were cheaper and bands were paid better when they played in bars. You could survive while developing your songwriting skills and playing chops.
For example I had a walkup apartment on NYC's upper eastside which I shared with a roommate. We split the $300 a month rent, now you couldn't rent a parking space for that. I was starting out as an artist if I was starting out in NYC now I'd probably windup homeless.

The sound quality is the best for a collection of songs recorded almost 50 years ago. A whole panoramic frequency of sterophonic, sound-staged, sweet, sonic, superb, symphonious sound. Think that this is blues psychedelic nirvana right here.

This band is terrific. Like the vocals and the music keeps changing to make the music move. From track to track and individually these musicians are really grooving together. Seems well practiced and the album seems very well produced and put together in the studio. On each song it flows and changes to make the music very dynamic!
You know I like all the songs. Those albums back in the late 60s/early 70s
had the tendency with the best bands to shine on every track. Oh I see it’s from 1971 a very vintage year for the music across the board...blues rock and jazz and folk. I was 20 and the music was magic. You didn’t need drugs because the music made you high!

Coming from an amateur musician in the 21st century prolly doesn’t mean much but I’ve listened to a lot of diverse music in my days and this just completely smacks anything else right the hell around. Smites it, if you will. I want to cry knowing how bad modern music is compared to this. What ever much love everyone. If you’re on this shitttt then god bless.

Spanish Feeling is appropriately named as it's the first time I've felt something viscerally awesome in a song for a long time.

Can you imagine a world without music? How would you feel about it? What would you miss the most?
Te imaginas un mundo sin música? Como te sentirias? Que seria lo que mas extrañarias?

Saw these play a few times in Cardiff.
My memory keeps yelling me there was a Sax player.
I DO have a clear image of them and a liquid light show at a Whitchurch High School dance ...
