- Here is the mega rare 1971 LP by British Heavy Blues Rockers `Universe`. Formed in 1968 as a blues band Spoonfull, they changed their name to Universe. In 1971 while touring in Norway they recorded and released this their only album on the Norwegian label `Experience Records` (EXPL 2001). Only 300 original copies were ever pressed and only a small number were sold with the official album cover, making this incredibly rare. A copy sold via discogs in 2016 for £1353, another copy via ebay in 2015 for £385, while there have been some reissues its the original 1971 release on experience that sells for `Big Bucks`

Very Gold.
Billions actually 🤘
Shame these folk won't see a penny of these plays.
Formed in Cardiff, Wales.
Steve Finn - guitar, harmonica, piano, vocals (later in Sassafras ). Mike Lloyd Jones - lead guitar, slide guitar, vocals (later in Shakin' Stevens And The Sunsets ). Mike Blanche - organ, vocals. John Healan - bass guitar, vocals. Steve Keeley - drums, percussion, vocals (1970-72, ex- Kimla Taz).
It's a good day when autoplay directs me to vintage gold like this!
Absolutely!
I'm with ya man. Me too. Groovy gem dropped in my lap today.

Woodstock is a good start point.

The aftermath of the Beatles break-up !
based in Cardiff, Wales, formed in 1968 as a blues band Spoonfull. In 1970 the band changed its name to Universe. In 1971 they were touring in Norway, where they recorded and released their only album Universe (1971) as 300 copies and only a small part was sold with the official album cover. In Britain they did many collage gigs supporting Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, Chicken Shack, Man, Black Sabbath and many other early 1970s bands. They eventually disbanded in 1972.
WoW!
Coming from Cardiff, I'm ashamed to say that I had never heard of this band.
I Knew I recognised them. Saw them supporting Man must have been 71
Great information thanks
Too bad .. they sound great!!!!!
There was another band with the same name around at the same time, in Cumbria. It looks they recorded something at Tangerine Studios, then became the England (the Deroy LP ones, not the Arista ones)
All my friends listen to 'new' music.. 70s music just grooves my soul! It's amazing to think how inspired everyone was musically at that time.
Yeah; authentic good things were good yesterday, are good now and will be good tomorrow.
70's music is EVERYTHING!!
There were a lot fewer distractions back then, no internet only rudimentary video games. Also rents were cheaper and bands were paid better when they played in bars. You could survive while developing your songwriting skills and playing chops.
For example I had a walkup apartment on NYC's upper eastside which I shared with a roommate. We split the $300 a month rent, now you couldn't rent a parking space for that. I was starting out as an artist if I was starting out in NYC now I'd probably windup homeless.
You're right, I feel same.
Thankfully you have good sense and taste!
The sound quality is the best for a collection of songs recorded almost 50 years ago. A whole panoramic frequency of sterophonic, sound-staged, sweet, sonic, superb, symphonious sound. Think that this is blues psychedelic nirvana right here.
Yes a delight when the past sounds so nice
Ayy thats a great call.
1971 was a good year for music...
This band is terrific. Like the vocals and the music keeps changing to make the music move. From track to track and individually these musicians are really grooving together. Seems well practiced and the album seems very well produced and put together in the studio. On each song it flows and changes to make the music very dynamic!
You know I like all the songs. Those albums back in the late 60s/early 70s
had the tendency with the best bands to shine on every track. Oh I see it’s from 1971 a very vintage year for the music across the board...blues rock and jazz and folk. I was 20 and the music was magic. You didn’t need drugs because the music made you high!
I absolutely love these obscure finds. Thank You internet.
Music makes the world happy, can't emagine our lives without it,it's where I'm in happy land wherever I am,
I love this music I was born in 1971 and got all the hand me downs music from my brothers and sisters and all I can say is the music I was brought up on was absolutely brilliant 👏 👌 🙌 😎
Right on, Brother. Ditto, 71.. this is how we time travel back. Hugs to our older sibs n cousins :)
I remember bands would be destroyed if they sounded to much like other bands. Now the crap artists must sound alike or they fade away in the wind. I love hearing different versions of the same song the perspectives bring more expression to the times they were made.
It's intentional on a societal level
There is a fantastic 'live' sound to this album. Its like they are playing in my room!
Opening beat: “ain’t nobody dope as me, I’m just so fresh and clean, clean”. Outkast
This was an awesome album, and my cat liked it too ^-^
Love this type of music, so alive.
Old school heavy. So so beautiful :)
Words can't express the feeling, if these guys came out new today & publicized, they'd be selling ! Thanks for turning us on !!!
Doubt it. I love this stuff but in todays age they’d have to be touring non stop
First time to this band can hear alot of Cream , some blind faith , thank you very much for this treasure i'm rock'n'roll & blues man
I didn't know I had a rare record. cool. thanks for the post!
Great guys, where are they now??? Am an old timer music lover from the Rock era. God bless them 🙏wherever they are 🙏👌🙏
165K views as of this point in 2021, means a lot more people undoubtedly have been exposed to their music now (thanks to the 'Tube) then when they were playing shows in Norway when this gem was recorded. I like the acoustic track #2, "Cocaine".
That's what I love about CZcams, the recommendations!!!
This channel is absolutely fantastic
Thank You Stephen
a bloody corker of an album!!!!! And oh how i would love a copy of this album. i should of been born in 70s. Classic Music! LOVE IT!
Thanks from Monterrey mex
I was born in 1970. I could have done with being born in 1950 so I could have experienced things like this first hand. That said, I probably wouldn't have appreciated them half as much, in that case. Human nature.
Rare indeed! We'll be guided to find more greats like this. New day, new way, no dark contracts having to be signed. Pure, unowned, raw rock and roll straight from the LIGHT
A note to my soul man! Makes a feller wonder how many 60’s 70’s bands are yet to be discovered. Heard a little bit of Cream in there! ☮️❤️ thank you 🙏
2021 And It Still Sounds Awesome!
Can't get enough of this and I still listen to 10 years after
I LIVED THROUGH THE SEVENTIES NEVER CAME ACROSS THIS GROUP WHERE WERE THEY HIDING?

DANG! Wasn’t expecting something this good, glad I decided to listen to it. Goes to show how many lost gems are still out there for us to discover. Thanks 👍🏼
thank you for sharing grew up in early 70's I have never heard of them before...
Thanks for listening
One of the best albums I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Coming from an amateur musician in the 21st century prolly doesn’t mean much but I’ve listened to a lot of diverse music in my days and this just completely smacks anything else right the hell around. Smites it, if you will. I want to cry knowing how bad modern music is compared to this. What ever much love everyone. If you’re on this shitttt then god bless.
You can't beat late 60's early 70's blues rock/Prog rock. It can be matched but never bettered!.
Your right ! A pivotal point in music history.
They had me hooked on the very first song....thanks for posting this album...greatest year of music.....keep em rolling.....Merry Christmas. ......
Thanks for listening
........ ........ ........ ........ ......
I Agree 100% !!!

Nice Hendrix quote in first song!
Ye it sounded familiar lol
Divno, neponovljivo! Muzika moje mladosti.
Impressive, superb, just my kind of music!
It's very hard to imagine why these guys didn't get more attention. Absence of management and promotion I suppose.
Love the Voodoo Child reference in the riff of the first song. Class.
Takes me back [to where I wanna be]
.... And to UNIVERSE ... a real gift you guys have given ... so much appreciated. You are up with the greatest of the greats as far as I am concerned.
Can see them playing with Ten Years After, in my mind
So rare but I'm watching this on CZcams- for free- And that's awesome dude, subscibed
Sim. Tá aí de graça pra todos
Coming over like Atomic Rooster without the keyboards.
Something's wrong with your playback--there's organ in this band, bro--although much subdued in comparison to AR. ~S

Spanish Feeling is appropriately named as it's the first time I've felt something viscerally awesome in a song for a long time.

No need repeat. Mutch too much !!
Saw these play a few times in Cardiff.
My memory keeps yelling me there was a Sax player.
I DO have a clear image of them and a liquid light show at a Whitchurch High School dance ...
