The "green" of the wood and coal actually makes sense, since they contain a lot more yellow pigment than the Amythist does, and a lot less red, so in comparison, it is basically considered green by our eyes.

to light the portal, you can use bow and arrows from skelettons and shoot through a burning peace of wood set next to the lava to ignite it

Fun fact deepslate coal ore are really rare I think I has a 0.58 chance of spawning in 1.17 1.18 and 1.19 for it to spawn a coal vain need's to be at Y level 1 to be right next to deppslate.
And bruh he missed the emerald's that's even more rare that a 0.009 chance of spawning.

You can put wood in lava next to the portal, set it on fire and it will light the portal for you instead of you running around trying to find flint/flint and steel.
