My daughter lost her dad in 2016. It was awful. I didn’t know what we were going to do but thankfully my daughter got survivor benefits from her father.
I lost my dad on Mothers Day 2016… it was the hardest thing I’ve been through in my life to date. Seeing Gov Walz and how great of a dad he is made me weep for my dad. My mother could not have made it working two jobs and raising 4 children under 10 years old when my father died at age 39 in 1949. Social Security survivor benefits started in 1940. My mother got $119 for me when my benefit ended when I turned 19. Without those benefits for me and my 3 brothers even with her working 2 jobs it would have been almost impossible to keep a roof over our heads, feed and clothe us. Unfortunately all three of my brothers died before they were able to collect Social Security at 65 BUT we were saved when we were young thanks to SS.

My mother could not have made it working two jobs and raising 4 children under 10 years old when my father died at age 39 in 1949. Social Security survivor benefits started in 1940. My mother got $119 for me when my benefit ended when I turned 19. Without those benefits for me and my 3 brothers even with her working 2 jobs it would have been almost impossible to keep a roof over our heads, feed and clothe us. Unfortunately all three of my brothers died before they were able to collect Social Security at 65 BUT we were saved when we were young thanks to SS.

The earlier numbers were estimates done through state surveys. The adjustment came as actual payroll reports came in. That is typical to those calculations but those numbers usually land closer to each other. Nothing shady. Everything was reported as the information was available. Still good numbers. Just not as record breaking as was estimated. Get over it
