It's a poor move, because Matt's character barely has any read on John's besides the fact that Matt's already lost to him before.
And by this point in the movie Matt's character borrowed 10k from a friend and if he loses this game the mobsters are gonna take him out back and shoot him.

One of the most rewatchable movies ever made. The hook of the story, the overall writing, the voiceover narration that drives it, the soundtrack, and pacing is perfect.
Except for the girlfriend. She really sucks.

Its indeed very rewatchable. Soundtrack is great. Its really drives the film and adds to near every scene
Don't forget John Turturro's performance. One of the best character actors of all time.
Great scene in a great movie full of great scenes. Completely underrated gem of a movie. I love watching this over and over.
It's not only a gripping film, it's a film that leaves you with a wonderful feeling inside.
Some films keep you interested but leave you feeling dry or in a bad mood.
This is good in every sense of the word and all these great actors put in great performances and Norton perhaps the best of them all.
While it does have a happy ending, as said many times before Mike is a degenerate gambler. I disagreed with a lot of the decisions he made throughout the film. Especially going back to the table after paying off Teddy, gambling $5000 on what was essentially still his professor's money, after closing the arc.. He can't help himself but to keep putting it all up all the time. The whole film I saw his friend Knish as the angel on his shoulder and Worm as the devil, and there was way more devil in Mike than angel. Absolutely no bankroll management skills. He loses a lot in this film (a promising start to a law career, the woman he loved) only. to come back full circle to the "3 stacks of high society" and heads to Vegas to put it all up again.. God knows Worm wasn't long for this world.
I've watched this movie countless times one of my all time favorites
Teddy KGB was a GTO player randomizing his actions using oreo's in 1998. GOAT.
Goat comment that’s genius
Frosting on right, fold. Frosting on left, call. Solid strategy.
Teddy: default 3bet.
Hero: OMG, he is representing aces!!!
In heads up no less. Players will do that with any pair lol
They're playing 25/50. Will Hunting raised 20x BB.
Guys it's an old movie
Movie has a lot of unrealistic dumb stuff but it’s just a fun solid film lol
You realise there's 25 years of poker theory updating since this scene right?
Whenever there's nothing to watch on tv, or on cable, or I can't decide from my DVD movies, I always pull this outstanding movie from my DVD collection and am NEVER disappointed!!
Hell yea
I’m like that with interstellar
For me it's this and The Usual Suspects.

Can definitely relate... one of my best buds from high-school, I remember watching the movie with, well, why we were both at home, likely on a school night, and then when we both realized we'd both finished watching this wicked movie, we were off to the casino for some 2‐4 limit holdem. Lol the biggest of games. Hadn't seen him for like a decade it feels like and just found out this year he's sadly left this world... if they're playing cards up there, hope he saves me a seat.
Edit, and yes of course watching this movie over and again, never gets old!
Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich, John Turturro, Martin Landau... man what a cast this movie has...
Don't forget the mother who Worm slept with whose son went after Worm and ended up getting a garbage can dropped on his head
Don't forget grandma. Everybody forgets grandma.
And Gretchen Moll one of the true classic beauties of all time
And they all played so damn well :)
Taturo was the bomb in this
Martin Landau’s I owe monologue still gets me everytime.
Looking back, the Oreos were such a ridiculous tell 😂 who would ceremoniously eat an Oreo before they bet every time they have the nuts? And open one and put it back every time they’re bluffing. And how would every pro not pick up on that? Still one of my favorite movies of all time
They're fully vaccinated and boosted, GTO Oreo's
Good randomiser for 50/50 decisions though. Filling in right hand - call, filling in left - fold for instance. I actually thought that was what he was doing. I mean, how is it a tell? Also he did it AFTER the all in, so what good is a tell from the guy who's closing the action?
It's because it's a movie
I always have my oreos nearby when Im betting
I've folded aces to kings before, with a correct read.. 2 kings and an ace on the table, dude hit quads I hit full house... Wasn't preflop tho obv. My friend was bleeding tells like it was a main artery.
This scene proves that Oreos used to have more creme filling
Finally someone who is here to notice the things that really matter
One of my all time favorites.
This movie is 🔥🔥🔥 just watched it a few days ago and could watch it over and over.
I have.
Watch "21" if you haven't. Just as good.
@@morpheus6749 I have, it is pretty good.
Best poker movie ever made. I like to think of it as a Good Will Hunting spin off about Will's high functioning gambling addiction
Lucky You is a better poker movie. Rounders is the better overall movie.
Apparently you have never seen The Cincinnati Kid.
Used to watch Blue Collar Comedy Tour a lot and Ron White did a little bit on how watching ppl play poker makes you think you can play poker
"You get to that table and you find out real quick, they don't let you look at other players' cards. I'm sitting there the whole time like 'where's that little odds thing that tells me how I'm doing!?' "
I will never get tired of watching this movie.
Watched this the other day and was struck by just how perfect the sound was .... The mood music just right, the clink of the chips .... So good.
And the fact he keeps those cookies in a dirty filthy chip rack lol and eats them with his dirty hands 😂
Love it, I watch it at least once a year
KGBs look when Mike says I'm all in 😂
This movie is a classic! One of my top five favorite movies.
it's a fantastic film that can be watched and enjoyed many many times. Malk, Norton, Damon all were excellent, but for my money the professor (Martin Landau) outperformed all of them. His scene in the bar was mesmerizing, as was his check writing scene. He and Damon together were magic.
Our destiny chooses us.
Martin Landau was a great actor.
Very underrated part in the movie for sure
Don't forget grandma.
„What choice?“
He only had like 3 scenes bro
"Rounders" was one of the best written, and acted, yet least appreciated of the films of that year. While not an expose or very valid story of underground poker, it was a great simple sroy very well written by David Levien and Brian Koppelman and Damon did a good job, his work was outclassed by Malkovitch and Norton.
This is a great movie. I just watched it the other day. Malkovitch was incredible in this movie.
It was quite suspenseful that wasn’t a horror, thriller or action movie. Almost edge of your seat like the Miss America pageant. 😂
This has to be a troll. As a poker player, I love the movie but it’s terribly acted and the script sucks.
@@smalltowndowntown9199 Yes. I own and love this movie, but it's not a top tier movie.
@@smalltowndowntown9199 lol, “he’s representing the only hand better than my cowboys, AA.” I literally said out loud “don’t blow him off the hand w a 5bet bro he’s probs got K7s or some shit. Lol
The fact that Mikey was totally focused on playing his best game after not sleeping for 3 days and getting the tar beat out of him says a lot about his desire to win. Not to mention the serious high stakes. He may have only had hours to live. He was at his best under the worst of circumstances. Amazing win.
I dont think they would have killed him. If they killed someone over $50,000.. lulz. That wouldnt even pay the deposit of the lawyer to defend the guy who murdered him. Not counting the fact police would link it to teddy pretty fast.
they would most likely break his legs and/or force him to do crazy high risk jobs like delivering drugs, etc.
Bruh its a movie
Almost as if someone wrote it that way
God you’re so cringe
Nah, they would have staked him and made him play for them for the rest of his life, while he was forced to live at Granma's being brutally abused and pimped out, when he wasn't at a table.
I love how adorable and at the same time menacing Malkovich is at 0:15... :D
Malkovich is a master at psychotic roles.
one of the greatest moments of all time
"Veer-ree agree-essive."
My most favorite line in the film. I don't even remember anything else they said.
i've never noticed the expression on malkovich face when damon went all-in hahaha
They don’t make movies like this anymore. Late 90s/early 2000s we’re the golden era for film.
how did this screen gem pass me by? will definitley be giving it an airing.
Damn I love that movie!
Cmon you all heard
..”It takes 5 minutes to learn how to play Texas Hold Em, and a lifetime to master it”
This is right up there with The Greatest Game Ever Played for repeat watchability.
Maybe the best sports movie ever! And a true story! "Pass the hat for Eddie!!"
Blinds 25/50
Mike: Raise to 1000
Teddy: Reraise 5000
Mike: Reraise to 10000
Teddy: Fold
Great movie but the poker is absurd
Dummy apparently 3bet with 78 suited or some crap like that. Still makes him seem like one of the better poker players portrayed in media. Usually the poker action makes no sense in order to create "tension."
Bro movies only run about 1.5-2 hours on avg. In other words they gotta keep the story movin
I have a harder time believing a heads up game with tens of thousands on the table is self dealt.
That would be a nightmare.
20x was a standard open in 98 😅
I really like these two actors but I've never seen this "rounder" movie. but this video has inspired me to watch movie. what balls with so much money on the line!
Rounders... Great Movie!
Would love to see a well-crafted sequel where Mike's fortunes rise and fall in Vegas. Maybe he returns to the old neighborhood at some point and reconnects with the local crew.
Only none of them recognize him anymore because he looks like an aging soccer dad.
There’s nothing in this film I care about. But its so, so good.
The actors in this movie are so underrated . John malcovich Damon norton risposi turtuno
Do you know the definition of 'underrated'?
Yea that's probably true but are they really A listers. Do they compare with Day-Lewis, Di caprio, Pacino, Nicholson, S L Jackson? No, not that good by a stretch.
Rounders, Good will Hunting, Matt Damon is killing it at this time.
I have no Idea how to play poker but this was a great movie
When you can watch this hundreds of times and still be nervous after he loses almost all of his chips after he could've cashed out the first time.
Damons hair is the same in every film around that time. They all blend together
This just made me want an oreo
Great Movie !
For a poker player this movie is the bible I have lost count on how many times I have watched this and knowing how that loss and redemption feels all too well.
I am poker player and i haven't watched it even once.
I watch this movie everytime i go broke, been 13yrs now
This movie inspired many young men to try their hand at poker. They all found out it's a hard way to make an easy living.
@Midnight Movie Man Ah yes, the old "theoretically" it could be done argument. The problem is that it's HARD for people to have patience and focus for 12 hours a day, which is how long a pro plays, 6 days a week. Real life is not like the movies, sometimes you can go for hours with out a good hand. If you start playing with shitty cards, the math will beat you in the end, and over the long run you will be a loser. Don't tell you could do it, go out and do it, and then tell me if it's hard or not. I tried playing Pro for six months and poker is a cruel, cruel mistress. But, don't take my word for it, give it a shot.
@@RJwarriorpoet facts
@@RJwarriorpoet I went out and did it, and I agree that it depends on the bankroll. For his argument's sake, $10 per hour is easy with a higher bankroll but yes, atrociously difficult in terms of time if I played $0.50 - $1 games. My only gripe is that the math doesn't beat you in the long run. I played Texas Hold'em, and because everybody has the same chances, then in the long run, barring folds, you'll get just as many shitty cards as you do good cards.
I personally stopped playing because a game stops being a game for me when it becomes work. That, and I'd rather be self-employed in a less risky business these days.
@@Impact009 I'm sorry but your comment is factually wrong. Not all cards have the same value and statistically speaking, the amount of hands that will win money is far smaller than the amount that will lose money. I don't really think you played long enough to make an accurate assessment and probably just dabbled. As for your comment about it feeling like a job, that's what it means to be a professional poker player, it's your profession aka job.

one of the greatest movie of all time
The movie was ahead of its time. Could you imagine how much more popular it would've been made ten years later when the poker craze went mainstream? This is a very underestimated movie.
This movie along with a couple other factors is the reason for the poker craze in the early 2000s.
Prob best film of the decade!
"Rounders: A pair of Kings" is a better title; I think.
Every time I see this scene I freakin go buy a box of oreos. So dayum good.
Classic movie, reminds me of ‘The Hustler’
Best poker movie of all time
The Oreo moment! LOL
Always recommend this movie for Landau, “for that I owe.” Anyone who doesn’t love what they do I suggest this movie. Find your passion, find your dreams and go for it.
Indeed
Great as he was here, Landau was even better in the tv series The Entourage than here.
Is that something you might be interested in?
If you haven't seen it yet, start binge watching it :)
Nothin in the world can beat...PERSISTANCE :))
Loved the movie 🎥
This movie along with Robert Varkonyi's main event win of the 2002 WSOP turned me into a poker player and for a short period of time a professional. I burned myself out on the grind of being a pro and while I no longer play, I did walk away from the game a winner. The game was both Dark, because I thought of nothing but poker, even when I wasn't playing and lost some friends over it, and pleasantly memorable from the good times and new friends I made.
LOL nice story... walked away a winner!
Here a professional poker player for 15 years. This movie started my interest in poker! Saw it in 2001 for the first time
Hanging around, hanging around. Kid's got alligator blood. Can't get rid of him.
Great movie!!!
Teddy "KGB" one of the great characters portrayed by John Malkovich 👍🏾
I fashion myself on the Deadman's hand, Aces and Eights.
Pretty good movie... the best part was the Counting Crows song though.
mat tells a great story about johns accent for kgb where it kinda threw everyone on set of and malkovic kinda whispers to mat saying something along the lines im a terrible actor (dont quote me on the that story im drunk but its on youtube ) but i think it works so well fits the character
Schindler's List 2: This time it's Real
In the movie version of my life Teddy calls with A10 and flops a full house.
“How do ya like them apples?!”
It's amazing how bad the poker is in this movie and yet how fun it is to watch.
A 3 bet preflop is always representing aces of course! There are no other hands!
Well, it teaches you to play tight aggressive, so it's not entirely bad.
And yet the poker in this movie is still far and away better than in literally every single other movie and tv show.
Great movie.
What how can you end the video like that , " I feel so unsatisfied."
thanks god they didn't make part 2. doesn't get netter that this. by far best poker movie that was ever made.
The power of the Oero cookie
After watching this I am convinced that I have a future in back alley poker games. My wife said that she believes I can do anything I set my mind to. That was 34 years ago when we got married. Planning on seeing if she still feels that way as soon as I finish this bottle of Jack.
😂😂
Crazy how this movie today would be one of the best of the year. Back then it was one more movie. Talks about quality of movies today.
What do you mean? Barbie was a hell of a movie! And deserved to be #1!!..
Oreo cookies was the clue. Lol.
This movie introduced plenty of gullible poker aspirants to the Dunning Kruger effect. If you think you are a poker master chances are about 99.9% you are a fish at the table.
I only realize that I'm watching a Binge Society clip, when the obnoxious beep gets played over any swear word.
Never saw it. Now after this 3 minute clip, I want to see the whole thing.
Mike would’ve felt funny if Teddy had pocket Aces again.
No help on the Flop, a 3rd Ace on the Turn. 😱
Verriii agrasiveee 😀😃😭😝
Everytime I watch this I keep hoping that this time Worm would just stay at the bowling alley.. and everytime I'm disappointed haha
Ditto
He's called Worm for a reason.
"A hanger? What are you talking about?"..
For all you world class poker players out there, this is a screenplay not a documentary. If this had every poker detail correct, it would be a snooze fest except for the few poker champions that might watch it and even they would complain it was a total snooze.
Little known fact John malcovich actually plays Matt Damon irl
Great 👍 movie 🎬
This match was sponsored by Oreo
Pay that man his money!! 🤣
John m is fantastic and very funny
Teddys tell was that he would eat those Oreos like he didn’t have a care in the world when he was strong. Stare at them when he was weak. But everyone knows that.
This film combines the high points of the Paul Newman classics "The Hustler" and "The Color of Money". In the Hustler, Fast Eddie Felson figures out the hard way what it is to lose and get shoved out of the world he was fool enough to think he could dominate. And the comeback, the Color of Money has Fast Eddie wiser, a shredded loser out of the game altogether moving booze (*damon was driving a booze truck in Rounders when he got out so "moving booze"). This story just rolls up both of em and does it so well. Best cast ever. How can anyone watch Ed Norton do any other film and not imagine he was literally still Worm but doing something else now?
To this day I can't eat or even see a package of oreos and not think of teddy kgb
I use Nutter Butter Peanut cookies.
the tell with the Oreos is still a mystery to me
Jamming with pocket kings pre-flop is an absolute no-brainer lol
Oreo cookie: Aaarrgh! Don't disembowel me! Examine goat entrails instead.
Teddy KGB's tell revolves around how he breaks and eats an Oreo cookie:
- Strong Hand: When KGB has a strong hand, he snaps the cookie in half by holding it to his ear, as if listening for something.
-Bluffing: If he's bluffing, he breaks the cookie cleanly in half and eats it without hesitation.
-Folding: If he has a weak hand, he crumbles the cookie messily and doesn't eat it.
If this was a PokerStars hand, Teddy would call off the All-in shove with A10 offsuit, with a K23 flop, giving Mike a 97% chance of winning or something outrageous like that with a flopped set. Then Teddy would hit runner runner with J and Q for the Broadway straight.
Sorry Tobes...what did you just say?🙁
@@MrGraemeb2022 poker stuff.. basically if he played PokerStars the guy with a good hand would put all his chips in and the guy who needs a miracle and has nothing would call and they'd reward the bad play by giving him the 2 cards he needs to win on the turn and river

@@codyeble6764 that's something that the movie got wrong. You can't call a bluff preflop lol. And someone doesn't really get themselves pot committed preflop and fold unless they are playing totally reckless.
