As someone who goes to Hawaii a fair bit (and just got back from the Big Island and Maui last month) this was great, and I just wanted to add a few small things based on my own experiences.
    1) With regards to food, even groceries are more expensive than you may think. A loaf of bread (nothing fancy) at the supermarket in Napili (Maui) was around $7.50 USD on average...as someone coming from Canada that made one heck of an expensive loaf haha. Fruits and Veggies can still be had for reasonable prices though if you head over to the local farmers markets. If you are eating out, food trucks are the way to go, but are still not "cheap", just cheaper haha.
    2) With safety, the best pieces of advice I got from a local were: Spend 10-15min watching the water before you go in so that you can get a sense of what the water is doing (currents etc.). If you don't see anyone in the water, there's probably a good reason for that. And lastly, if you get in trouble in the water, call out for help when you have the energy to do so, don't be proud and think "I got this"

    • @ThelostMirage
      @ThelostMirage Před rokem +1

Bruh....where you buy bread from? Cuz thats rip off man. Go foodland or Tamura, buy the loves or store brand, its just as good cost like 4-5 dollars tho.
If you know you gonna eat a lot of bread, Costco sells 2 loaves for $11 ,get the hawaiian style one, its the best

If you’re on a budget: rent a car with Turo, spend as much time at the beach as possible, hike, cheap eats, Air BNB. It doesn’t have to be expensive, plan accordingly. I recommend traveling in April

  • @meegal4

I have a tip for anyone who is traveling to Hawaii from the east coast of the USA. Plan to lose an entire day just for traveling. For example if you leave on a Friday you will not be in Hawaii until Sunday, possibly not even until Sunday night. We had to fly into LAX for a layover, had to wait a few hours, then fly into Maui. In total this was probably about 20 hours. Same thing coming back too. Expect to lose an entire day of just traveling, possibly 2 days. We landed at 4pm but were so tired we passed out in our room until the next day due to jet lag.
Another tip is don't over plan. We had a few days where we had A LOT of activities crammed into one day and we were rushing around the island not fully enjoying the environment. Like we'd go to a beach and be like "ok but we can only stay 1 hour because at 3pm we have to be here". Spread out your activities! Relax on the beach without needing to rush things. Enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Tips: 1. Watch as many The Hawaii Vacation Guide youtube videos as possible for homework 2.Leave the last couple of days of your trip open to redo the spot or activity you loved most doing 3.While there is sticker shock, comparatively we have learned if you break the cost down per day it is equivalent to a Disneyland/Disneyworld trip and IMHO Hawaii is a way better experience (even our kids agree).

Budget tip: Rent a car with camping gear and just camp around the island. We got an Xterra and stayed on Wai’ānapanapa, Kīpahulu, Hosmer Grove and various shores up and down South/West Maui with a cheap county permit. National park camping only costs $4, and some spots are even free. Camping also allowed my wife and I to explore all around Hāna Highway for several days and be alone since we’d be at the waterfalls earlier than other tourists. Farmers markets were also the way to go for affordable eating. Just grab what you need and have a cookout on the black sand beach!
Edit: This is also how you meet and get to know people who live in Hawai’i. Taking time to have a relaxing conversation with employees of state parks and farmers markets gets you in touch with Aloha.

Usually points are only worth 1 cent, but Hyatt they’re worth 3 cents. I got 12 days for 200,000 points which is absolutely crazy for a $600/night hotel room! I watched many You Tube Videos in preparation for our trip to Hawaii and yours were the best ☺️.
We just returned from our 10 day trip (Mid Jan) to The Big Island and Oahu. Our weather could not have been better (although we went prepared for rain and wind). Every single day was beautiful so don’t shy away from January visits.
The Volcano National Park is a must and try to allow a full day for this park. TAKE BINOCULARS! Kilauea was erupting and at night we could actually see the movement of the lava waving and exploding with binoculars.
We absolutely loved the Big Island because it allows you to get out and explore and be in a rural setting.
In Oahu we enjoyed visiting a Buddhist Temple.
Thanks for all your videos. They are extremely helpful in planning your Hawaiian Vacation.

Your videos are really great. I think people would be well served with your itineraries. There are so many things to do on the islands that it gets overwhelming. We have been going to Maui annually for over a decade and still find something new every trip to do.
I agree with booking flights, car and restaurants early. One area I may disagree somewhat is booking your stay (Maui). The company that manages our rental condo on Maui will run specials if our unit has some open dates about a month out. Recently we had someone book our place only a few weeks in advance for $199 a night. You will be able to find a nice place to stay, guaranteed. There are literally thousands of short term rental condo's on Maui. I would always opt for a condo over a hotel, if only because you can save a ton of money on food. Eating breakfast in every day saves at least $50 a day. Also, you can pack your lunches for beach trips, then stop for a Shave Ice on the way home. The other thing about renting a condo, most owners provide many extra's for the guests. Beach chairs, Umbrella coolers that sort of thing, makes for a much more comfortable stay at the beach. If you are booking your own unit on ABNB or similar, take the time to see who is managing the condo. Most of the professional managers have their own website that you can book through. Most of the time this will save you $$. They won't have a link to their website on Air BnB, but it's pretty easy to figure out if you look closely at the listing.

Tip from an island boy. 1. Foodland has decent prices and a good poke and seafood area check it out, if you need a makai'i discount you can enter a number to get the discount.
    2. Be respectful and people will be respectful to you.
    3. If you get lost or wanna try something local, Ask people, most are friendly and open and will give you great suggestions, just pay attention to directions those aren't always clear.
    4. Theres the "i visited hawaii" experience and then the "I experienced Hawaii" experience, sometimes you gotta explore , make friends and Have fun, The islands are only Half the trip, Its the people that make everything else beautiful.

Love, love, LOVE your channel. Last visit to Hawaii was in February '20, just as the pandemic started.... We FINALLY pulled the trigger on one thing we always thought was a good idea. Our return trips to the east coast mainland have always left the islands at night. We'd have to check out of our hotels/condos in the morning and then find something to do the rest of the day. The last time. we booked our hotel for an extra night and just relaxed and enjoyed the facilities for the day. Totally worth the extra money to not have to lug our stuff around and worry about a place to clean up and change before heading to the airport. Made that last day much more relaxing. Better than even when we'd stow our things at the hotel after checkout!

A couple of requests for future videos/information:
    1) "behind the scenes" video on how you shoot, gear used (cameras, drones, canned shots, etc), video editing, etc. (bloopers make it even more fun!
    2) Generate a "preferred" gear / equipment list. You offer several unsolicited/unpaid recommendations on some things (sandals, sunscreen, & sunglasses come to mind) but viewers are left to wonder what brand you are wearing or which swim mask, gear bag, etc.

Great video! Glad you’re self promoting! We are doing our usual trip to Maui in May. But I did grab $125 flights to Kauai on Black Friday for March! Then, like you said, I started looking at places to stay! Wow! The prices are crazy and my husband is picky! I ended up going with Hilton Vacation Popui through the Hawaiian Air site. I’ll get lots of Hawaiian points! 😀 i think I’ll get your guide for Kauai because we haven’t been there in probably 20 years! We don’t usually do much but lay by the pool or on the beach but who knows, maybe we’ll do an excursion or hike this time! Mahalo!

  • @saikrishnagangavalli8477

I’ve watched all your videos multiple times in planning my Hawaii trips.
We made it a point to visit every April. Flights so far were dirt cheap on south west. Cheapest flight was last April when round trip to Kauai from dal was like $300 unheard off.
    As far as tips
We always stayed at Airbnbs. Helps with more space with two toddlers. They aren’t old enough to enjoy resort pools etc as long there is a pool they are happy.
Airbnbs give you beach supplies snorkel gear which always helps. Less stuff for us to carry. I will never book a resort in Hawaii as the beauty is in the nature and the culture that won’t get appreciated in a resort. I know there are folks that enjoy the resort amenities but when in Hawaii we spend most of our times outside and just need a place to take naps, crash ,cook breakfast (that will save $100 each day) and free parking space.
Look for deals online or Groupon some tours like the mantaray snorkel offer 40-50% off most of the time.
Rental cars even during shoulder season can be pricy sometimes they cost the same as daily airbnb rate 😂
We usually stick to food trucks they are awesome in all the Hawaiian islands. Best way to to help support the locals.
We don’t really hit up Costco as much now as there are other grocery stores also and don’t need as much bulk stuff that went to waste.
If you are traveling this far to Hawaii make it a point to spend atleast 7 full days on each island. Don’t try to cram two islands for a week long trip. Especially with kids
Driving around the bigsland is a lot so we split our trip Up into two airbnbs else kids will be stuck on car seats for a lot of time.

My daughter has an egg and nut allergy and I feel like Hawaii would be difficult in finding foods with toddlers with allergies, which has made me hesitant to go. We try to shop local and eat local as well. I have tried finding lists of Hawaiian owned restaurants, shops. Its not easy and grocery stores. I would love that for our Maui trip in February, but I'm sure I am not alone wanting to support local and finding it hard to find a comprehensive list.

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  Před rokem +2

Lists are hard as defining local can be tough. Look for the smaller restaurants and shops. No the chains like Duke's (a good restaurant but no longer local). Tour operators are usually all local as they need to be there to run the operation. Hotels and vacation rentals are hardly ever locally owned. Just a few tips.

Is it worth it to go to the summit vs the visitor center (which is free)? What about Mauna Loa? Is it drivable? Are these in the volcanoes National park? Or is it totally separate?
