  • First up, I was sent this WWS Precision Pro Applicator to review so I didn't buy it. Now we've got that out of the way, what do I think of it? I thought it was a great concept and fills a niche in the market. I would never have thought of buying one but now, it's certainly a tool I would use on my dioramas.
    If you have a large layout with vast swathes of grass then this applicator is not meant for you. Once you get to a larger size, you just spend too much time filling up the very small cup. Instead, it is aimed at the diorama or games modeller who builds small detailed areas of grass. It's great for getting into nooks and crannies and for putting on small areas of grass. Another plus side is that I found it gets much closer into buildings than a normal applicator.
    Overall, I probably wouldn't buy one if I was a large layout builder but if I was a diorama-only modeller, then this is a great tool for small patches of static grass. It's the same price as the much larger micro applicator from WWS so I would buy the size that suits the area you are modelling.
    You can find the various WWS applicators on their website (www.war-world.c...) and more on their youtube channel ( / warworldscenics .

    I can see that being very useful for getting up nice and close to the sides of buildings just like you demonstrated, I had been doing some experiments making small static grass applicators for just that but mine definitely don't look as good as the WWS one! I had to laugh at the 10:35 spot when I heard your camera battery dying 😀 mine make the exact same sound!
    Great review Kathy.

      +Luke Towan I've just bought an adapter for my camera so you can plug it into the wall socket. Still waiting for it to arrive.
      Thanks for the comment!

      I think it would be great for open areas as well where you only want small scattered patches of grass. But it's genius for doing miniature bases and the like. Looking at their site they have a tiny static grass box that would be better for mini bases, but I like this tools flexibility. I'm intrigued that you are making your own. :) I'll have to keep an eye on your channel to see when it appears. (I should be keeping an eye on your channel anyways... I get busy sometimes... *smile*)

    Excellent video, now I hoping to get a precision applicator in the next couple of months, I have had excellent results with micro although it wont get between my terraced houses

    Been a little while since I dropped into the channel. Whoah. I see tons of improvements! Kudos!
    I love that little applicator. Even on big pieces there have been times where I just want to add a touch to a certain spot and my big applicator means there is a ton of grass everywhere that needs to be cleaned off.
    The layering spray sounds interesting but I'm not entirely sure what it really does beyond say, dilute pva. Going to check out a few of your other videos since you mentioned you covered it earlier as well. Great trick to get me to look at more of your videos... Which I am looking forward to. :)
    Keep up the awesome vids!

      So, went and watched the Revamping your Static grass vid where you use the aerosol version. Hmm... The pump version (which I think is better than the aerosol since you have more control) is a dilute pva, or similar, with a wetting agent that helps carry the charge. Their site doesn't have any real description of it that I could find so I'm taking a stab at it. I can see some value in that kind of product. Might try to diy experiment with it down the road. Very interesting! :)

      +Terranscapes It is interesting and I will admit I haven't spent a lot of time wondering what it is but chatting to Martyn at a show, he says PVA skins too quickly so I guess it isn't just dilute PVA.

    Nice for tight spaces like you have on that diorama, and small and handy for the multi-layered parts of your layout where headroom is at a premium. The final result looks fresh too, but that might be partly hoovering off the cobwebs! I have to admit to being quite relieved that you were demonstrating something I don't need/want/desire this week! ;-)

      +davie maclean Glad you don't need this one 😄Hoovering did help a lot too.

    My first thought is the applicator is rather small in terms of the amount of grass that it holds. Even in n-scale it would require several refills to complete a space 1 square foot. Considering that structures can be moved during the "grass planting" process, size of the applicator is not a down side of other applicators. Very nice video and good results. Thanks for sharing. I am now motivated to buy those Walther's structures.

      I am also not pleased with the size of the area for the battery; that seem rather large and thus awkward to place while using the device.

      +Roger G. Perkins Hi, I don't think it's aimed at layouts but rather at diorama or gamers. It would be a nightmare to do any large area with it.

      +Giulius71 Thanks! I still have the finishing touches to add on the diorama such as laundry and signs of life plus lighting and sound.

    a thought if the section of the applicator, that you put the stactic grass into, was a bit longer it would hold more but i dont think this would make much differance in your control of where it goes and the space you can use it in so could be an improvement in the design.

    • @KathyMillatt

      +Neil Rogers That's definitely a good suggestion.

  • @dannyholt105
    @dannyholt105 Před 7 lety

    Well, it seemed a bit tedious but quite effective! My question is: does the grass have to come out of the applicator? Rather, could the applicator be hooked up electrically and the grass be applied using a creased paper and just puff it on? Thanks for the review! Cheers, Dan

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  Před 7 lety +1

      There is a plate inside of the applicator that applies a static charge. The device doesn't use a puff but rather static electricity to get the grass to stand upright. You can use a puffer bottle but the grass doesn't stand upright as much.
