I use the same app, it's pretty good and accurate. I usually cross reference it with the BBC weather forecast - their next day morning summary can be quite accurate. Sometimes one or the other predicts fog.. if both predict it then there should be a very good chance. I believe the day before having some direct sun on the ground before a cold and clear night also helps. You can also check the humidity and dew point on that app, if they are within 2 degrees that can be a good indication too. It's also good to remember that fog can be very localised - I have a river around my area that gets foggy very regularly even when no apps are forecasting any. When in doubt the safest bets tend to be low lying bodies of water, marshlands and that type of place.

Thank you for the very useful tips here, yes referencing the dew point is really important too and the point about it being very localised is also really useful. I've pinned this comment for others to see as it's full of great points. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Have a great day!

I am a hiker. Fogs aren’t welcomed at peaks and summits as they obscure the view and vastness of landscape.
Came here looking for tips to avoid them, as mountain weather is highly unpredictable, but I am amazed by the video shots. I like how you stationed yourself in them. It shows the scale and contrast whenever there’s human element to it. The video colours are also amazing.
Stayed because of the rabbits too.

The wild horses in the fog look magical, also cracking up at those squirrels

Hahaha thanks Peter, yes they appeared just as I started the filming before sunrise! One tried to eat my tripod again so I had to move! The squirrels made me laugh too I didn't notice them until I was back to editing hahaha!

I use various different weather apps (one of which is also clear sky). There is another called Windy which has even a fog layer that it can display...

I also love photographing in fog! Your observations are quite similar to mine. I tend to check in the app if there is fog predicted but also often go on a sunrise shoot hoping for misty conditions even if there is no fog in the forecast. My two additional tips will be: 1) in summer when after evening rain comes hot day there is a big chance for fog during sunrise, 2) mist over the body of water during sunrise very often happens even if there is no chance for fog in the forecast - I live near a small river and in autumn it is very common even if 100 m away from the river there is no sign of any mist. And even small amount of mist over the water during sunrise can catch the light and create beautiful sunbeams ☺️

Enjoyed your passion & enthusiasm. You have a warm & welcoming persona & you take a great photo hence I subscribed. As regards fog prediction, & this is purely my thought, I find another indicator when it's still is smell. I've noticed when I have fog/ mist by me the smell of the countryside just seems a little more enhanced. I don't know if it's a similar phenomenon to petrichor when it rains or I'm just talking nonsense.

Hey Phil, thanks so much for taking time to write a thoughtful comment and thanks so much for subscribing that's hugely appreciated! Very interesting thought, I will try and see if I can notice that myself, it's definitely a phenomenon I've noticed with rain as you mentioned, so it could be possible with fog too! perhaps something you can become a bit more sensitive to with experience. Thank you again! Have a great day/evening

Excellent video Peter! I can tell you definitely draw inspiration from Nigel Danson and Mads Peter Iverson in the style of these videos and that's not a bad thing at all! Really good work man, solid video!

Thanks very much for the kind comment, yes they are two of my big inspirations as I definitely resonate more with their slower, calmer style of CZcams photography videos/vlogs. I've tried to incorporate some of the elements I loved about their videos with my own style and ideas along the way. Thanks again and really glad you liked the video!

Great video Peter. Great tips and wonderful images throughout this video. The photo at 2:45 is gorgeous with the fog and the smattering of yellow leaves on the still mostly green tree. Also, a beautiful image with the sun breaking through at 5:18. Looking forward to watching more of your content! Hope you are well.
