    all good points but some more relevant, other marginal. I first got lanshan2, then lanshan 2 pro, did all the seam sealing, tie-outs inside to raise the bathtub like in zpacks, replace stakes and guy outs for lighter ones. I thought it will be my ultimate tent :) 1005gr with everything after improvements, but how wrong I was. It took two hikes, week long each, for me to understand that I hate single wall tents, I was wiping condensation with my head and with the foot of my bag every night, but the worst part was when it was windy or rained, all the condensation was not dripping but spraying on me and all my gear. I'm done with that. Last summer I got the lanshan 1 plus, 2021 model, the bigger version of original lanshan 1, (I think what you refer as XL) and with some improvements it weights 830gr(with everything) and I absolutely love it, spacious, huge vestibule and most important condensation stays away from me, now I'm a happy hiker :)

      @@AdventureLite hey, but don't get me wrong, LANSHAN 2 pro is a good tent, light, easy and fast to pitch, totally waterproof, tons of space for one and very comfortable for two, it's just condensation issue was deal breaker for me and it's not about LANSHAN it's about all one layer tents for me. Here it needs to be mention condensation issue depends on many factors: where you hike, what part of the year, how tall you are, how high of the ground you are with your sleeping system and finally how you sleep. I'm 182, sleep on xlite with high loft bag, I toss and roll around in my sleep and finally I hike mostly in Carpathians where even in the summer during the night temp can drop to 0C and condensation is absolutely unavoidable, 😁 just to consider before you write LANSHAN 2 pro off, I really tried to love this tent

      I camped in some strong winds with the Lanshan 1 last week. Pitched it really close to the ground and even with 20 - 30 mph winds still got a lot of condensation. Was glad to have a double skin.
      The Carpathians look amazing! Have you come across any bears?

      @@AdventureLite Almost no bears in Poland, not many in Ukraine, though I run there into bear trails (poops, paw prints and scratched tree bark) most of the bears are in Romania, but I hiked there for weeks and didn't see any, the only bear I saw from far was in Caucasus in Russia. Romanian Carpathians are I think the most beautiful, but Ukrainian are the wildest, you can pitch your tent anywhere as well as have camp fire. Polish side way too civilized 😉

    Very nice review. Another reason for needing a solid fabric on at least the bottom half of the inner tent aside from winter camping is that here, in the American SouthWest, camping is often in a desert environment. Wind storms will kick up a ton of sand and fine dust that will get in through any mesh tent and coat everything and everyone inside. I'll never own a tent with mesh down to the 'bathtub' again.

    Excellent review. I just replaced (well, I actually still have the old one - but don't rat me out to my wife...) my old Lanshan1 with the 2021 Lanshan1 +
    Here's an interesting fact for you: The 230cm (XL, or plus version) 4-season inner tent actually weighs less than the 3-season inner! It's only 2/10ths of an ounce lighter, but it's still lighter. 3-season inner = 12.9 oz. 4-season inner = 12.7 oz
    Another interesting fact: the Lanshan2 does not weigh very much more than the Lanshan1 +. If you can convince yourself to carry an extra 6 ounces, you can have the extra room the Lanshan2 provides. Tent weights (including tie-out lines, stakes, groundsheet, and stuff sacks) are: Lanshan1 + = 2lb 8oz, Lanshan2 = 2lb 14oz.

  • @davids9549
    @davids9549 Před 3 lety +2

    Good points all, but you've omitted the main difference (which also accounts for the price/weight differential) - the superior fabric used in the Pro (hence its name). 20D Silnylon is going to outperform 15D Silpoly in all but the gentlest of conditions.
    I rejected my 'Standard' Lanshan 1 in favour of the Pro purely for size issues, but on receiving my Pro I was immediately struck by the different fabric quality. I suppose a lot depends on the other shelter options (if any) you have within your 'armoury', and I can see it would make sense to go for yours if you own a Trailstar, for example. My Lanshan plays 'second fiddle' to my Hexpeak V4A (which I use with a Lanshan solid inner!).
    But both these Lanshans are fantastic tents at their price point and weight.

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Dave, good feedback 👍. Also the reinforcement points look better on the Pro.
      On the flip side I've noticed that 3FUL rate the hydrostatic head of Lanshan Plus fabric as 5000+mm and the Lanshan Pro fabric as 2000-3000 (damn that could have been reason number 9!)

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 3 lety +2

      Regarding the hydrostatic head rating 5000mm seems a bit high (exaggerated?). Sea to summit rate the 15d sil-pu nylon from their Alto and Telos range at only 1200mm!

    • @davids9549
      @davids9549 Před 3 lety

      @@AdventureLite It's an interesting question, silpoly vs silnylon. Of course the fabrics vary considerably within those groupings as well, but it's fair to say that while (weight for weight) silpoly is more water resistant/repellent, silnylon is stronger. So in practice, while the two tents in question would probably provide similar levels of water resistance, the Pro will stand up to more force trauma.

    Good and through review. I already have the pro and for the money l can't complain particularly as l'm of an age when ultralight is more necessity than choice. I've used mine in some very wet and windy conditions and it's held up well. Regarding condensation, as with any single wall tent it can be an issue. However you can mitigate this with a high pitch and l always keep a J cloth handy. However l'm a fair weather camper and at night, unless its really cold or the rain is lashing down l leave the mesh partially unzipped to encourage air flow. Yes the seam sealing is a faff, but to be fair to Naturehike, it is reflected in the price. Space wise, l'm 6 foot and the pro is just big enough. I understand the XL is bigger and l'd be interested to hear people's comments on whether the XL does give more room

      According to the specs on Aliexpress the inner of the Lanshan plus is 20cm longer than the original Lanshan (210cm) and is the same length Lanshan pro (230cm) so I think they'll be very similar in size.

  • @james-kinnear
    @james-kinnear Před 2 lety +2

    Thanks,this exactly mirrored my own ideas about the Lanshan 1 (v.2021). My one reservation is the inner pitch first issue. In moderate to heavy rain that wd be a negative for me. Have you been able to do a fly pitch first to get out of the weather then wiggle the inner in afterwards without a complete repitch?

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi there, good question. I tend to pitch the inner and outer together, or if I've packed up when it's really wet I'll pack them sepetate in which case I'll pitch the outer first then the inner which isn't hard to do. Would be tricky to pitch the inner first then the outer although you can use the inner on it's own.

    Found this really helpful, thank you. Do you find any issues with the Cricket of Traikstar? I’ve been deliberating which option to go for, but the lanshan as a cheap way in seems good to me with the option to upgrade the outer in the future.

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Tom, the MLD Cricket and the Lanshan are very similar in shape. Obviously the cricket has no door which may not be ideal for some people. The material of the Cricket is better quality and likely to last longer. Another big difference is the height - the cricket is 140cm a whole 15cm taller than the lanshan and taller than most trekking poles (people often use a 'pole-jack').
      I think the lanshan is a good alternative and if you choose to upgrade you can use the inner with the new tent 👍

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 3 lety +1

      I prefer the catanary cut and the shape of the astamid - it's a easier to pitch and I suspect better in strong winds. The Lanshan is better made, the inner is much better and I prefer the colour. If 3FUL made a 4 sided catanary cut pyramid tent in the sand colour that would be the best of both worlds!

    Awesome review! Do you think that the Plus 4 season version is suitable for camping in snowy conditions? Or will it to drafty and snow will blow between inner and outer? Because I have read in the comments that you can pitch the tent low to the ground. But how low can you do that?

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před rokem

      Hi there, self supporting tents are aways going to be the best in the snow but I'd be happy to try the lanshan with the solid inner in the snow unless the forcast was for strong winds. You can lower the tent by swapping the pegout webbing with bungie cords. Getting good anchor points would is be a challenge in the snow though.

    • @HansScheffler

      Never done it myself, but some do use the Lanshan in the snow. e.g. see this video (Lanshan 2): czcams.com/video/53MLI1cUF9U/video.html
      But a free-standing tent should perform better though.

  • @cavehillrock...wildcamping

    excellent stuff! - have you tried the Lanshan xl inner with your Asta outer yet? I find my 4 season T zip xl inner is simply too big for the lanshan outer and I'm looking out for an outer that is big enough! The One weights only 584g. 299usd but with taxes and customs fees it would be 361€ for me. Kinda at the limit for me. Or for a hike that long would you go for the Pro?

  • @driewiel
    @driewiel Před 3 lety +1

    Always buy double wall unless you are very very sure about a single wall tent. And the only single wall tent I would consider is Cuban fiber.... if I had the money. Because then you can shake and pack it almost dry in the morning.

    • @AdventureLite
      @AdventureLite  Před 3 lety

      I only use single wall shelters without a ground sheet (MLD trailstar / cricket) for that reason 👍

    • @agatho00
      @agatho00 Před 2 lety +2

      For me, using a single wall tent is not a huge problem. If you have a small microfiber towel or some kind of cloth to wipe the moisture, it won't take long to dry. Besides that, you can always pack it wet in the morning, put it where you can acces it quickly, and when you take a longer break (to eat or to rest a little and enjoy the landscape let' say), you unroll it and let it in the sun. If it's a sunny day, in 15 mins it will be dry.
      Being so small and just a single wall, it's not a pain to do that. I was for 2 weeks in Scotland with a single wall tent and in the morning I almost always packed it wet and dry it during the day, when I had a break.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel Před 2 lety

      @@agatho00 If you're more experienced and know what you're doing, then a good quality single wall tent might be an option. Quicker to pitch and pack is one advantage. But for most people saving 150 grams just isn't worth it. Carrying around a wet cloth is even heavier. And although it may appear you have more space, once the fabric is wet you don't want to get close with your dry shirt sleeping bag. Also a separate inner can be use in other outer tents or just as a bug nest. Or maybe you jut pitch the outer tent to sit out a rain storm?
      The biggest problem with single wall tents is condensation droplets falling on your face. Chinese torture. You'll sleep very bad.
      And yes I understand there are plenty hikers who have no problem with their single wall tent. I'm just warning people they may not like the switch from double to single wall.

    • @agatho00
      @agatho00 Před 2 lety +2

      @@driewielI'm aware of all the disadvantages that a single wall tent has, especially if you're used with double layers, bigger room inside and all that. For those that are not so experienced when it comes to backpacking, it should not be their first choice. I agree with all that.
      For me, the most annoying thing about tents like the lanshan 1 Pro, is the fact that sometimes the hood or the footbox of the sleeping bag touches the wet wals, like you said. And drying a sleeping bag (especially if it has down insulation) is much harder thing to do compared with drying a tent. That's why, if the wheather is good, I almost always leave the vestibule open, to let air circulate. But sometimes there's no condensation at all, even though I close everying.

    @MrAlexDavid Před rokem +1

    Putting my engineer hat for a moment:
    According to the specs the dimensions are exactly the same between the two but this simply cannot be the case.
    Both tents have exactly the same outer dimension, and same length for the bathtub, BUT, there’s at least 10-15 cm between the fly and the inner tent. Same appears to be for the height just by looking at it. This means that the inner mesh has quite a steep angle which in turn means the real length is much less then 230. Also add the fact that sil poly stretches much more than sil nylon and the difference in space can be significant. I wonder how this plays out in the real world.
