- I get a lot of people asking me about the mods I have done over the last year on the Lanshan so thought I would do a final video showing all of the changes I have made and how I have found the best way to pitch which not only gives you a better camping experience but also more space inside and an option for bad weather

After cycle camping around... cough...splutter 40 years a go, I am waiting PATIENTLY... for my Lanshan 1, 4 season tent to arrive for my new adventures, wild camping on the Isle of Wight as a starter before I escape to the mainland for some dream treks up in the welsh valleys! Just got my Osprey Rook back pack, lightweight sleeping mat, Trangia cooking stove, heading on its journey from Sweden...I cannot describe how excited I am just to do my first night wild camp night! I love CZcams as this platform has given me so much inspiration to me to just get on with it!
Excellent simple trick with a tracking pole to get sides a bit higher. Thanks for sharing!
Makes it work for me and gives me just enough space to be comfy 👍
These tips are just wonderful, It may seem simple but really helpful to us newbies. Thank you!
No problem buddy. That's why I do these videos. I was a newbie once too and just want to help others out 👍
Thanks for this. Just ordered 1!
No probs buddy. Its a cracking tent 👍
Really useful and superb tips, which are also relevant to my Lanshan 2. Appreciated and keep upbthe good work 👍
Thanks nigel. Much appreciated 🙏 👍
Thanks 4 that. Great advice. Been out twice in the Lanshan 1. It’s a brilliant tent and your tips will solve the problems I had. Cheers
No probs and thanks for watching 👍
Great video. I've had the same tent for two years and haven't used it yet so this is a big help. I keep using my cheap and cheerful tent cos it;s like a pair of old comfy boots, time to give the Lanshan a go!
Cheers Leo. I love the Lanshan. Still could do with a little more space though 🤣 one day telly bring our a larger version of the two. They started making one but uts only slightly longer not as long as the 1 plus. One day..... cheers for watching 👍
Thanks for the video
All the best

🤠
No probs. Hope it helped.
This is a great info video. You've answered all my questions. Going to look at wind test now. Atb
Cheers Mark. It held up well in the wind before I changed the door hooks to the z packs ones as that's the only thing that let it down when it snapped. Easy fix though and you can buy them in the uk now from outdoorgearessentials website. 👍
Definitely going to get a lanshan soon pal, great tent, easy to pitch, nice and light, great tips as always. Hopefully catch you on a camp soon mate. Keep up the good work, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁
Cheers Paul. Gonna watch yours in a bit 👍
Thanks for this informative video! 👍
No problem, glad it was a help 👍
Excellent vid mate , really good setup on the tent there and some top tips all round 👌
Cheers buddy. 👍
Enjoyed that mate. Cracking tent.
Cheers Mark. My favourite so far. 👍
I was tempted to go for a Lanshan 1, they are great for the money. However, I like the space in the Lanshan 2, so much room inside them. Great vid and tips.
Thansk Rachel. I'd love the 2 it's just not long enough. Thinking about the 2 Pro but concerns over condensation so might get the 3 season with all the ventilation. Thanks for watching. 👍
Fair play u no the ins and outs of that tent, good mods u have done to it, I'll defo need the footprint for mine because my setup was all over the place ha good work Michael 👍
It lays out the foundation for the tent when you use the footprint. So much easier. I've hopefully done all I need to it now but you know me 😂
Well done. Thank you!
Cheers 👍
Great video was looking for the optimal way to setup! thanks for sharing ATB TGW
No problems buddy. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great video Mike. Just about to purchase the 1 Plus so a timely watch for me. Had me in stitches mate with that dog walker LOL. All the best.
🤣 cheers Wayne. You'll love it, great tent 👍
Cheers. Good video!
Cheers buddy 👍
Great vid and good tips. Thank you. Had the l Pro for a coule of years and pleased with it, but recently bought the 1XL, which does have a little more room for the taller camper and no real condensation problems. They're a good lightweight tent for the money.
Yeah I love my Lanshan 1 plus. Just enough room for me although I'm tempted with a single skin tent at some point 👍
Thanks
Well explained. Good info, excellent
Cheers mark
Good show and tips thanks
Thanks Willis. Much appreciated.
Looks a nice tight pitch 👏😎
That's what she said 🤣👍
Just ordered mine, thanks for all the tips, especially how to keep the front fly closer to the ground, it is something I noticed on the videos and was thinking how annoying could it be on a windy night. Subbed, cheers!
Thanks Marketa, I hope you enjoy it 👍
Good day to you!

Lanshan looks so nice !
Your idea is so helpful!!

Have a nice day my friend!
Thanks buddy, glad I could be of help 👍
Nice one. Huge thanks. Been looking for ways to lower the door closer to ground for a while, it can be quite windy on summit camps- and your tips will soon be done on mine. Many thanks
Cheers gus. Always ways to improve some tents. Lanshan needs a few upgrades to make it almost perfect. 👌👍
Great video, I’ve just had through the door, a footprint for my lanshan 2, will help a lot for a perfect pitch, I’m deffo going to get a couple of those rams horns 👍

Thanks.
Nice Video. You have a wonderful weekend. Take care.
Cheers buddy.
FairPlay dude .. 😀👍
Thanks for that!
No probs 👍
Just found your channel Mike as I`ve just bought this tent, just needs seam sealing this weekend hopefully. Fab video with some great tips. Cheers Pal, and another Subscriber for you 😀
Thanks Martin. Unless you've got the pro you don't need to seam seal it but I'd recommend doing the guy out points where it's stiched through. Thanks for watching, commenting and subbing 🙏👍
It is the Pro, I`ve seen a few videos on how to seal it and they all show sealing around the guy points !. Thanks.
Yeah pro needs everything doing. That's what puts me off as I'll probably make a right mess! 😂
Lovely video@channel,have a lovely 2022@stay safe @new fan debs xx..
Ah thanks debs. Much appreciated 🙏
Nice hints & tips, unbelievable some people can't mind their own business.
I know, it wouldn't normally have frustrated me that much but I had limited time to film it and only.one battery with no power bank as I wasn't camping so didn't want to be waiting about. He seriously didn't batter an eyelid or mouth "sorry" like when you walk through someone's photo without realising till too late. 😂 sort of made me laugh too. Can see myself being an irritating old got when I get to that age 🤣 probably already am if you ask the mrs.
You know that tent so well fair play. I bet you know it better than the people who makes it lol. I so do like your passion for the tent. Great video. Atb dai
Cheers dai. Be great to make one myself, if I could improve my seweing skills 😂
Great tips, thanks. Just got my lanshan 1 and i´m very satisfied. Only thing i´ve noticed is that the floor is very thin and feels weak. Gonna buy the footprint too!
Thansk buddy. It's worth it anyway as it helps with setting it up. 👍
Very nice. Hope you are enjoying the tent.I bought from collinsoutdoors, nice business
Thanks Leo. I've used this more than any other tent 👍
got one on way n ta 120 ish t keep doors to floor noted. :)
Enjoy 👍
Really helpful thanks! I just set mine up for the first time, I’m pleased with it but the only thing I don’t like is how cheap the zips feel
Yeah theyre not perfect but work OK though. Cheers for watching. 👍
nice video Mike …. probably the most comprehensive Lanshan 1 setup video out there … sorry about the ‘Ol Man’ interruptions … the joys of being a youtube content producer 🤷🏼♂️ … on my lanshans 2 i use a couple of sticks to pull out the sides …. or 1 pole and a stick on the lanshan 1 … but then i usually camp near or in woodlands so that’s convenient… anyhoo awesome video as i said atb Dave Mc
Yeah if I was woods camping that would be what I would do. No wood on dartmoor though 😂 thanks again dave for the hooks 👍
Thanks thing I’ll get pole for my one 👍
It works really well. Just make sure you get 16mm one 👍
If you take a stick or another short pole you can use it for the back pullout similar to the use of the trekking poles on the side - and it helps pull away the back wall and opens up the interior.
True but I don't find that an issue as its the deepest pojnt inside. Plus it would mean carrying a third pole if you were somewhere like dartmoor where I spend most of my time as there are no stick ls there at all but yes you could and it would add a little more room.
@@NoviceWildCamper Having a camp in a forest or by it we always have a good chance to find 3 ecosticks made of natural branches and use them to support additional tent tension. I do it regularly. And no tracking poles are needed!
This is true, however I do most of my camping on dartmoor and there are no sticks at all and no breaking of woodland allowed due to strict rules. Thanks.
I have the Lanshan 2 and have Trekking Poles to use for the main support poles. What I like to do for the side pullouts is to look around for a few Y shaped sticks that are just under hip height on me. I then do the same as you have done with trekking poles to pull the sides out and give some great extra space inside. I hike in the Aussie bush so a few handy Y shaped sticks are always lying around everywhere you go ;)
Great tips, might get that ZPacks bullnose clip ... since one of my plastic ones is already broken, and those little bungie cords look handy, I think I'll pinch that idea as well Cheers! :)
Thanks David. That's what I do the videos for, to give people ideas to help themselves improve the set up. Yes I'd use stick on the outer likes too but I generally tent to camp on dartmoor and it is totally bereft of any kind of sticks. You could find them in the small woodland areas but they are all protected and you can't camp in them. 👍
Useful, thanks. I have a Lanshan 1 Pro and been learning the best way to pitch. 2 questions - why not use bungie cord on the footprint too? And what was the effect on setup of the rebar cover on the top of the pole? (I made my own CF pole and 3D printed a rounded top and flat base). I’ve also found a peg at the base of the pole helps make the zip run better on the mesh door as the peg holds the bathtub more firmly.
I didn't use a bungee on the footprint as with string it's fixed in its shape and size so will always lay correctly. The rebar end simply spreads the pressure point as I had a pole go through the roof of another tent. The carbon pole o have has a male end which goes through the grommet at the base of the bathtub so holds it down when zipping etc. Cheers for watching 👍
Great set up. I don't know how you taller guys manage I am 5' 3" and struggle in lanshan 1. My go to it the lanshan 2 these days. I think you should get one and show us how its done ;)
Thanks for sharing
ATB-Phill
Cheers Phil. If I do it wilk be the pro I reckon. The standard is just too smalle but if have the pro 3 season for summer camps. If I do you'll soon hear about it 😂👍
Love your sense of humor😂 I hate stupid people too.. thats why i cherish my solos into the wilderness
😂 exactly why I do most of my videos on dartmoor, even reviews. Had nowhere to go this time though 🙄😂
Glass fibre poles also work for head and foot end.
Two sections of pole from some old tent.
Yeah you can use anything really. Even any old sticks you find laying around 👍
Brilliant video sir! Very good mods like them a lot and will defo try them. In the previous video you mentioned that there maybe be some kind of clips or something to clip the mesh inside closer to the outer wall, something thats stick to silnylon, if you know what I mean. Have you managed to find something like that on the internet or not needed anymore? I am also getting Lanshan 2 Khaki 4 season to use with my partner or family. Will do mods in there too.
Thanks Gregory. No I haven't. They don't seem to offer anything thst sticks to silnylon but tbh I haven't had an issue since my mods 👍
Great tips Michael as always
Where can you get the z pack clips ?
Please
Atb Graham 👍
Thanks Graham. They are on the outdoorgearessentials website. UK company that's started impoting them. They've sold out now but have some more coming in soon. If you contact them on insta tell them I sent you. Hes the guy that sells my table too👍
Hi Mike yeah I'm really thinking of the lanshan 1 especially now seeing how low you can get that front down just incase great mods, does that 4 seasons iner work well ?.🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
It's certainly warmer and keeps the wind out. The 3 season is all mesh so anything is better. It feels more cosy as well which helps psychologically. Cheers for watching. 👍
Oh man I definitely feel your pain. Guarantee if I'm near any public who aren't talking, the minute I press record it seems to be a flagpole to come chat with me....
🤣 the pain of fame 😂 or just nosey b@$*ards
When God doesn't want you to make a video 😂😂 geat mod video Mike, best I've seen, I'm currently very tempted to buy this tent from camperlists, as I type I can currently get it with all discounts including the vid review 20% off for about 80 quid including shipping, that's with the 3 season inner, so in your opinion would you still buy this tent and would you (if only a choice of 1 inner) go with the 3 or 4 inner? I'll probably use it more in summer but maybe occasionally winter, I'm probably gonna answer my own question here, but I'm thinking the 4 inner might be a condensation nightmare in summer ?
Anyway cheers for a year of great vids and wishing you and yours a great Xmas Mike 🎄 😊
Cheers mick. I love this tent and still use it regularly. I'd use it all the time tbh but I've had to review others as well so haven't as much as I normally would. If I had to chose 1 inner I'd go for the 4 season. I doubt you'll get any more condensation inside as it's normally when it's cold out and warm in that it forms so shouldn't be an issue plus let's face it, the British weather is rarely that warm. I've never had an issue with condensation in the four season and would only use the 3 season in really warm weather tbh. Hope you have a great Xmas too 👍
Hi great video.. thanks a lot.. I would like to know if you have any other tip for the pole? it is not easy to get the rebar in Chile, thanks
Thanks buddy. Cut a tennis ball in half 👍
Hi mate, great video, please can you add a link to the carbon fibre pole
Hi. I've taken the link down as the guy who sells them on ebay has suddenly disappeared. Odd as he used to be really good so something is obviously not right. You can find them elsewhere if you look though. I've seen them on ali express as well. Atb
Thanks awesome tips, the bungeed corn from inner and for the fly zip to ram hooks you got a link atall please, much appreciated
Hi. I can't post links on youtube comments as they delete them but I don't think I have the link tbh. If you search on ebay for 3mm bungee cord you'll find it there. Thanks for watching.
@@NoviceWildCamper nice one
@@NoviceWildCamper did you just get a good length and then cut for the 4 corners and tie some off for the door to rams hook ?
Excellent thanks, so I imagine most of tips like laying out footprint first, etc will all apply to the Lan....2 pro as well. Ref the bungee on bathtub, 30cm, presuming measurement is a relaxed piece of bungee, but is it 30cm length looped and tied, or a 60cm length. Great idea, also where did you get bungee do you have a link. Thank you, very good video.
Just 3mm bungee of ebay. 30cm when relaxed loose. Yes it will work for lanshan 2 as well.
I've enjoyed your videos on this tent and have now ordered one myself 👍 I just need to seam seal the guy out points now. I was wondering if you could give me a link for the seam sealer you used please? This would help me out. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to more vids (hopefully on this tent too!). Thanks, Steve
Thanks Steve. I didn't use seam sealer as its very expensive for such a small amount that's needed. I used a spare tube of silicon sealant I had, mixed it with white spirit, about 50/50 that way it doesn't end up too thick. If you haven't got any of those lying around then it's probably cheaper just to buy a tube of silnet from amazon. Atb 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Silnet great I'll order some of that 😊 Thanks very much as I had ordered the wrong stuff.
No probs 👍
Hi there, in your video you mentioned "in different weather you do different things" with the fixed length (125cm) of your pole. But I think you have left that part out in the video, haven't you. Did you present that part in a different video? Thanks.
Around the 11 minute mark I go through it in detail. I don't do different things with the pole, just different things to the set up.
How dared they not ask you for an autograph ... Philistines ... 😂😂
😂 exactly.
Glad you kept that intro in Mike. Bloody Joe public, dont they understand the CZcams ways of life. 😂
Yeah, hate people! 😂 it was amazing, about a 30acre field and three people just headed straight toward me and just hung round 😂 orobabltmthought i was mad!

Great vid Mike. I noticed on your first look of the Lanshan that your inner tent was really loose and baggy, but now it seems nice and taught. How did you sort that issue?
Cheers Ian. Changing the cords at the bottom of the bathtub to bungee shock cord made a big difference. 👍
Can I ask what mm bungee cord? Thanks
Apologies. Just read 3mm. Great video.
@@nicholassmith6533 cheers Nicholas 👍
Very tempted by the Lanshan 1 pro. Ive got a Lanshan 1.5 leaning tower and its footprint is just too big for wildcamping during hikes. Having trouble finding any supplier of the 16mm carbon pole. Easy to find the thinner version. Do you have any links you could share? cheers.
Hi. I don't I'm afraid. The guy I bought it from doesn't make them anymore. I have found others mainly on ali express but can't vouch for their quality.
Great video. I find people with chainsaws to be particularly troublesome. I imagine the guy with the mobile phone was reporting the guy putting the tent up in his garden?.... Hey ho - I think I know this tent very well now. Very informative. Did you fix your go pro?
Cheers buddy. I've got a higher bit rate sd card that someone recommended and it seems to have done the trick 🤞

@Truesdale Tv cool. You as excited as i was? 😂👍
@@NoviceWildCamper definitely lol be out camping in it tomorrow night hopefully 🏕 🤞
Awesome. I'm hoping to be out in my new hammock tomorrow night 👍
I’ve just sold the lanshan 1 pro.. never used it. There’s just something about it I didn’t like. Whether it’s the fact I had to seam seal it myself or the Mickey Mouse string to adjust the corners, I just didn’t have confidence in it. Although I’ve just bought the lanshan 1 plus it looks like it’s massively improved to the previous model.
The pro being single skin is annoying having to seam seal it however there is the obvious weight saving but also the impending condensation issue that comes with it. I love the plus as you get the size of the pro for a slight weight disadvantage but the benefit of no seam sealing or condensation problems. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper my current tent it a vango mirage 200 so this is light as a feather in comparison 😁
Hi again, I’ve got the 1 plus and have used it a few times now. I just got the 4 season T door inner (given the time of year) and wondered how different you found it for condensation ?
My trial so far seems to tell me … a lot more condensation with that inner.
Having said that, I can’t be certain how different the 3 would be on the same night. Wondered if you had a view on it ?
I will try it out with two nights and swapping but even that is not exactly scientific
It's difficult to compare without taking them both out on the same night with the same person in it really. I've not really had any issues with condensation and I've used this tent more than any other in all weather's. It might have something to do with the height you've got it pitched at? Check the gaps under the tent and maybe adjust so its higher. I have mine high all the time for more headroom plus my pole is a fixed carbon pole so it is always set exactly the same. Could help 🤷🏼♂️👍
@@NoviceWildCamper I’m same as you using 125 carbon pole and I normally pitch for all round gaps. Thing is, at this time of year it can be like being in low cloud overnight when high up so that won’t help. We get a heavy dew fall overnight too from warm days.
I can confirm that the inner dries well and pretty quickly when given chance though. Cheers
Can this tent be used without the inner .and also can the inner be used without the fly .?
I'm thinking of using the inner in a different tent you see .
No reason why not. They disconnect as you can swap the inners (4 season to 3 season). Might take some adapting depending on what tent you're using them on.
1st again 🤘😎🏆
Call it a draw pal 😉🤣🤣🤣
No fighting you two, theres plenty of me to go round 🤣
Is the 30 CM shock cord for the bath tub 30 cm (cut a 30 CM piece)? then loop and tie the not, or 60 CM and the cord folded to make a 30 CM cord? Thanks.😁😁
30cm total. Looped through the bathtub then tied off so around 15cm in total length from bathtub to peg. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper thank you again.
No problem
I'm interested to know what diameter bungee cord you used for the bath tub mod?
It was a while ago now but off the top of my head I think it was 3mm
@@NoviceWildCamper great stuff! Thank you 👍
First time today setting up my lanshan 1 plus in the garden ,going to try your mods but Iam having problems when I ordered the carbon poles from eBay (off ablain0) ordered them in January and still waiting away great video and take care ,neil
That's odd. He's normally very good. Cheers for watching though 👍
I dont use tent poles. So here's the tent poles I have to extend the space. Lols jk. When I get mine ill do the bungee thing
Where can i buy them zpacks metal tent hooks
If you Google search outdoorgearessentials you'll find the website. Theyre not cheap for what they are but a hell of a lot cheaper than ordering from the states. They charge £30 just for shipping!
would 120 cm pole give more tent width than a 130 pole?
I don't think you'd get to 130cm tbh but on theory yes it would but you'd lose end height too so I'd just keep it around 125cm.
Do you have a link for the carbon fibre pole you bought? I'm struggling to find one.
Sorry. The guy I bought it from no longer sells them. You can find them on ali express for the lowest price just make sure you get 16mm thick ones. 👍
Try a couple of carbon arrows from an archery shop, they should give sufficient height, a nock (tip at the top end) of the choice you want to pass the line through/over/around, and a pointy end for the ground, at very little by way of weight.
I'd be concerned by their strength though specially with a join. My 16mm pole just survived in high wind and I originally had a 12mm carbon pole which bowed completely when the tent was tensioned. They may work well for my end guy out extensions though if I'm not taking trekking poles 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper apologies, I should have made clear that the arrow suggestion was for the head and foot tie-outs, but not for the main pole.
@freeforester1717 ah yes. In that case they'd work fine 👍
Is this the newer lanshan 1 which is bigger than the original? I’ve read it’s actually only the inner that they made bigger… is that true?
It is the new plus version. The inner and the outer is larger to keep a gap between them. If you check outdoorgearessentials.co.uk website you'll see the measurement differences. Thanks.
@@NoviceWildCamper thank you so much. Really enjoyed this video btw, love the way you don’t just cut that stuff out at the start, brilliant!
😂 thanks. No one knows the grief we go through sometimes to make videos 🤣
Where did you buy that carbon pole??
A seller on ebay but he seems to have shut down now. Google search will bring up others or you can find them on ali express.
where can i get that pole
I got it from ebay but the guy is no longer trading. You can find them elsewhere but just make sure you get 16mm width. Lots of places sell 12mm and its just not strong enough. 👍
Where you get the carbon pole
A chap off ebay. He doesn't seem to make them anymore though but you can try a search otherwise you can get them from ali express just make sure you get 16mm thick 👍
Can I ask how tall you are? I have been back and forth trying to decide if I want to get the Lanshan 1, but I keep worryong I'll feel cramped at 185cm (6'1").

Hi again after watching your video (this on czcams.com/video/RUtHPpflrzY/video.html&ab_channel=NoviceWildCamper) on the bath tub you added line locks. fast forward to this video you changed for 3mm ?? bungee. why the change? what makes the bungee better?
The line lock I added because the standard string kept slipping so the bathtub was always lose. Rather than tighten everything, the easier way to keep it always taught is to use the bungee cord so it's constant. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper ahh good thinking, whats the thickness of the bungee cord?
