  • Now here is a car that has an offer that is hard to refuse. Just add sun and get free mileage for life. The Aptera, a car created in the sunny state of California has made its debut in the UAE. Supercarbaldie, that's me had a private viewing with this amazing car. This car is covered in solar panels, and if left in the sun will produce 64km per day of solar charge. Now that's free kilometers. It is also easily plugged in to give the batteries a charge that will give you 640 km distance, and get this 30 minutes on a 50Kwh charger gives this 640km. Added to that, the Aptera will comfortably get from 0-160kph its top speed in approximately 4 seconds.
    Interested! Then take a browse at aptera.us/uae/ there are 53 limited editions ready for investment.

    Hello! It's great to see the Aptera show prototype traveling around the world, hopefully with less time left before production starts than before.
    I would recommend that outside of Great Britain and its colonies, albeit former ones, switch from miles per hour (British Imperial and US customary measurement systems) to kilometers per hour (International Bureau of Weights and Measures). Then, when you look at the speedometer, you will feel like you are gaining speed! Especially on race tracks, 30-50 km/h in a super aerodynamic car is more like grandma looking for a parking space, while 50-80 km/h already feels like road speed and starts to earn respect for your efforts. World perception through numbers on the display screen.

      @@billsmith5960 Here's the direct quote:
      "We are launching with a single edition, the [...] Union Edition, IN THIS MARKET." Emphasis mine. Steve Mc Cannon is talking about the UAE market only. Currently plans for release in the US have not been changed, or at least there has been no statement to that effect.
      I expect that in mid-May there will be an announcement that Aptera will be building a factory in the UAE that will produce Apteras for the EU and middle east markets, with the Union Edition being released in 2006 as the first Apteras in the UAE. This is just as flexible a date as the 2005 release of the Launch Edition, and if they don't get that big investor they will both slide. But a year after the US release should be more than enough time to order the gold wrap for the Union Edition and make any other tweaks they need to make, without interfering with the plans in the US.
      All of the above is speculation and we will not know for sure until Aptera makes their announcement. I'm sure we are all hoping that their announcement is that they are ready to begin production in nine months.

    Say, if they have one in Abu Dhabi, that should let them test how much power the solar panels can provide in that heat. Solar panels usually work best at 77 degrees and drop with every degree above that. Tomorrow will be 100 ambient in Abu Dhabi (and it's only May). Actually, the surface of the vehicle is likely to reach a much higher temperature. Roof solar is installed with room for air flow beneath the panels but that can't be the case with these vehicles. I've seen estimates of over 200 degrees even in more average sun, and most solar panels give up at 185. The Aptera engineers must have thought of this but did they do anything or just ignore it? They should be doing some testing in Abu Dhabi.

      10 Watts. That's not much compared to its maximum (I calculate 110 Watts for the hood) but for indirect sunlight and depending on the hour of the day that's pretty significant.
      With the full solar panels it should get 700 Watts total so under those conditions you would see 70 Watts. Over 12 hours of daylight it averages to 40 miles. So even in the shade or on an overcast day that's what, 4 to 10 miles? It doesn't just drop off to zero. 😂

    • @billsmith5960
      @billsmith5960 Před měsícem +5

      I have 800W of solar on my RV. I can get 10W at night by parking by a parking lot lamp at some place like a Wal Mart. It seems people need to experience the world of solar on a vehicle that it mobile and understand what it can do. On the other hand, that 10W is OK because it's in an area where the humidity is low and it's locale.
      For example, I can camp in Santa Fe, NM during the summer in the national Forest. Super clear, low humidity and altitude of at least 8,000 ft. My solar will crank out 700W even though it's mostly battling with the trees. When in places like VT, same type of forest, 100W at best.
      People will see this when they get their Apteras. Plus, winter is not that great either. Plus with the cold chill, the chance that the solar will keep up with that, is pretty much spotty at best. Especially in most places here in the US. I'm only going by real world experience over 7 years of using solar on something that moves around.

    • @richardryley3660
      @richardryley3660 Před měsícem

      @@adimchionyenadum2962 I haven't heard any numbers from any other companies, possibly because they haven't yet gotten close enough to production. However, I would guess 10 miles a day is very achievable. Aptera is estimated to get about three times the range of a passenger car, so 10 or 15 miles a day sounds about right.
      You should get even MORE out of your solar panels if you use it for HVAC. That doesn't depend on range. The Aptera has a smaller passenger compartment, and carbon fiber is good thermal insulation, but I bet you could get really good ratings in a passenger car too.
      I'm looking forward to seeing Aptera make solar cells for other car manufacturers. Lightyear or the like might even enter into a partnership with them, depending on how their solar panels do after release.

      You are wrong. At the instant in time he was speaking Aptera's hood and dash solar, in total, were generating/producing 10 watts of POWER. If the 10 watts stayed continuous for 1 hour it would have generated/produced 10 watts x 1 hour = 10 watt-hours of ENERGY. As Aptera is purported to consume 100 watt-hours of ENERGY per mile of travel (at likely ~50 miles per hour) it would have been able to only travel about 1/10th of a mile.

      This is a prototype made with non-production parts. The math is pretty simple though. We know how much drag is from the air and from the tires, how much the motors consume and how big the pack is. Most car makers know the range a new design will get before production. Prototypes also lack things like stereos and A/C, but nobody ever mentions that.
      If you make 3 prototype cars and spend $60 million in operations, then you can argue the cars cost $20 million each. That doesn’t make them $20 million cars in the eyes of the market. The term “extracting” suggests people are unwilling to part with their money. Some of us want to encourage a future where transportation uses less money and resources. We vote with our wallets. That doesn’t make fans “cult” members.
      The reason it is here is to get large private investment so they can get to production. It will cost at least another $50 million to get to production, then an IPO will “extract” more money from cult members to get us to profitable scale.

    How much money did they slip you to make this video, and did they insist on seeing the final cut before you uploaded? Here are some observations on first watching:
    The shade was a half-shade, as the wheels were still making some shade, so the solar should have shown something. He drove around where it was full shade so he should have pointed to it displaying a bigger gain. You should have watched for it and remarked, yourself. You should also have observed the range to empty and the battery status and compared with the end of the lap readings. He should have let you drive; there have been many who have been allowed to drive it on the street. He drove a max of about 55mph on the straight and slowed to under 40 on the curves when race cars can take them at 200+. Why didn't you ask him to open it up? Why was he so slow? The circuit is as smoothe as a billiard table, but the in-hub motors are still dangerous at speed - that's why. It has never done 100mph or 400 miles of range or recharged in 30 minutes - all of which you could have caught him out on if you weren't being paid is my suspicion. I will copy and paste this to my last two videos because I fear you are a blocker.
