  • Fender recently launched the new Vintera series of electric guitars, meaning Vintage Era. These guitars are vintage spec'd instruments that represent three eras in Fender history; the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Each era has unique specs including: color, neck shape, pickup magnet, pickup construction, wiring and hardware. We compared three Stratocasters from the new Vintera line in order to demonstrate the distinct voice that is available from each instruments. We selected a 50s Stratocaster in Sea Foam Green, a 60s Modified Stratocaster in Olympic White and the large headstock 70s Stratocaster in Aged Natural. The 50s Stratocaster has formware wiring and alnico V beveled magnets with a 50s stagger in the pickups. The 60s model uses enamel wiring, alnico V and a 60s stagger with non-beveled pole pieces with a bit more wire wrapped on each pickup. Finally the 70s model has poly-sol wiring with flat, non-staggered pole pieces for a classic 1970s rock tone. Listen to the clips from each model and vote on your favorite at the end.

    If only Fender were smart enough to flip the truss rud adjustment around on the modified versions. I would be all over buying that modified 60s strat, but who the hell wants to unbolt their neck to adjust the truss rod on a MODIFIED version? That would be one the main "mods" I would make to any strat with a neck like that.
    That inconvenience is pushing me towards looking for a used american made I guess.

    • @cmkilcullen8176
      @cmkilcullen8176 Před 5 lety

      totally agree. For the 50's and 60's modified model, I wished they had flipped the truss rod as well and for those wedded to true vintage left it at the heal for the vintage model. I currently have an MIM black standard that I had 59 pups put in and am happy with the tone. But I really like the looks of the Daphne blue 50's modified vintera - even the 2 tone browner model (tired of the tobacco burst). I had a classic series 50's tele once before but that truss rod being at the heel of the neck was really a pain for me. Modified features should include putting the truss rod access near the head stock. For that reason alone I am considering getting the 70's model bullet truss rod, but am not sure. In the meantime consider getting yourself an MIM player series and getting yourself some 57, 54 , 59 or fat 50's pups installed in that sucker and you might be happy with that move. Also get yourself a tusq nut and locking tuners on that bad boy, and maybe improved caps and pots. But I am with your opinion on this. It seems like an obvious move to make for a modified vintera model, and it offers a truer choice option for those who either want a mod or want to stay true for a vintage, and don't mind tinkering with the vintage truss rod if that's what floats one's boat. But my heart sunk when I saw what you saw.

    Horrible demo. I'm just an average player and with no effort at all I get more and better tones out of the 50s strat. Don't let this video scar you away from the Vintera line. I have the 50s strat and it sounds as good as my American standard. Different but as good. Much warmer and harmonically rich than they sound here. I bought mine because it sounded so good as soon as I picked it up. And I was skeptical of any non American made stuff.

    haha,and when he played them he had reverb on it.great descriptions but very false representation of sound

      What's false about it? It's not like he's hiding it. You don't need a bachelor's degree in music to hear it mate.
      Also there's overdrive too.

      @@brettjames9088 yeah that's all true.but I think it disguises the true sound of the instrument.if the purpose of the video is to show some cool playing with some cool effects,then that's fine.but if the purpose is to showcase the sound of an instrument so that people wanting to buy one for themselves can get a good idea,then that's another thing.the playing is good.reverb is good if its your thing.but a mexi strat does not have a built in reverb tank or pedal attached to it...anyway,i bought a 2015 mexi roadhouse strat today,i played it through my own amp,no reverb,and I love it...!

      jon smith Most guys play with a bit of reverb anyway? I never plug in my guitar without a little reverb and modulation. That’s why Fender built amps with tremolo and reverb - because they knew people would love plugging in their Strats and hearing the dreamy shimmering tones. Try some on your new Strat you’ll love it even more!

      @@donharrold1375 yeah that's all cool,but my opinion is that for demonstration purposes of a guitar there should be no reverb because it mis-represents the sound.for example,reverb adds sustain or a sense of sustain to notes and chords that a guitar may not inherently have.its like people sometimes think they are good singers when they sing in the shower,because the reverb of the bathroom adds power to their voice.reverb is fine as an effect(although I personally use none) but when demonstrating a guitars features I think its misleading.but from all of the comments I get from people defending reverb I can tell that in most cases its not deliberate

      people say the same shit about trogley but they do what they need to do.Which is show you how the guitar sounds.It doesn't take a virtuoso to demo a guitar.
