Clover lawns are amazing.
😁
Certainly amazing for the bees! But that's fine, we don't need to worry about them 🤥🤥🤥
Been wrestling with red thread for two years now. Definitely going to give this a shot. Great idea and a very helpful vid generally. CHEERS!
Your videos are excellent. I learn so much from the comments too. My lawn is full of clover and weeds but I dream of having a lovely lawn. I am going to watch your videos and learn all about maintenance etc before making a start.
Great stuff Robbie very informative and easy to follow. I will definitely be making some of this juice .Thanks again for all your work.
Glad you enjoyed it
@Premier Lawns is by far the best British CZcams channel for lawncare. Your years and years of experience shines through which puts you head and shoulders above everyone for me. Keep up the videos mate - I have learnt so much from you. All the best for now ; )
Thanks for the compliment ☺️
Your lawn looks amazing. Thanks for the tips
So nice of you 😁
Robbie, great vid again. Your lawn is looking awesome too.
Thanks Patrick 😄
Great advice thank you, my lawn is suffering from red thread, I will be following your advice.
Happy days, the high Nitrogen helps the lawn out grow the red thread 👍
Great video and lawn looking nice and green despite all the dry weather!
Thanks Naill, the big trees round the lawn help stop it drying out as it doesn't get that much sun ☀️😎
I watch every video,brilliant stuff 👍
Thanks Ray 😊
Just ripped up a lawn that was all clover with big trees around the lawn. We removed the lawn as the client was sick of it and added a new lawn. Great learning curve about this love the videos.
Justin @ Brickright
Thanks 😊👍
Shussshhhh I will only say this once! Robbie your timing is brilliant as ever, in between this rain i was pondering on when can i cut the lawn and what should i do next! Hopefully dry today so start with the strimmer to mower, then aerate then order the Sulphate of Ammonia!
🙂❤👍 thanks Dave. Hope you have a great weekend 😎
Brilliant timing! Was just wondering if you’d publish an August video and I need to tackle some clover that I’ve been pulling out over the last few days in between the showers, thanks again
Thanks, glad you're finding it helpful ❤️😁
Good explanation of calculations Robbie. I think walking speed catches a lot of people out when applying products.
Yes, 100 per cent. I had a some more calculations. I ended up trying to keep that bit of the video short. Might do a follow up video to it.
Thanks fo sharing. I have a patch of clover thats been spreading . I'd say it's days are numbered after this video but I don't want a patch to fix for now with kids off school. Late autumn project 🤞🏾.
Is the lawn fed, how about aerating around it too?
I gotta say that this must be the greatest lawn channel on CZcams
One of them, not the best. There are a ton of good channels but thanks for the feedback 😊

Wow, I was going to suggest/ask for some tips about this.
We got you covered, welcome to the channel 👍
Was about to start looking for how to treat red thread. I didn't like the idea of fungicides etc. Wasn't aware the nitrogen in the lawn feed I have should tackle it. Went out and did an application to the lawn.
Its like you're a professional or something 😜
Hahaha professional, don't be getting carried away 😂👍❤️
You could also just make your own from seaweed
Nice one Robbie, this is exactly what I needed to know about. 👍

@@Premier_lawns_official It must be well hidden as I watched it again and was expecting to see you do the caterpillar across the lawn but I couldn’t find it. If I watch the end again with you spraying the fert down in reverse you kinda look like you doing the moonwalk. That’s all I got. 🤔🤞

Hi Robbie, love the videos. Whats the best fertilizer mixture or treatment for lawn that suffers with red thread, clover and crabgrass. Don't have much opportunity to constantly look after my lawn so was hoping for a easy low maintenance approach.
Quick fixes are just that and often short lived
I've seen on your play list monthly lawn care tips. Is this a regular thing now. I hope so. 👍👽
Yep it is, well spotted. I'm working on that 😁
Thanks for the informative video. I have a hard time finding the right products in the netherlands, but i think i have found a good liquid seaweed, however it says not to mix with sulphates… any thoughts why not, because you do it and it works out brilliantly! Want to give sulphate of ammonia a try. Maybe one week seaweed, one week sulphate of ammonia als an alternative?
That sounds like a great plan ❤️👍
Really interested blogs, just subscribed 👍👏 My garden is on clay ground and becomes water logged in wet conditions . What’s the best grass seed and how to do effective drainage?? In the uk🙏🏻👍
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel 😁 I'm guessing you are in a new build with clay soil. If so, that's not an easy fix as you will have standing water and probably no where to drain the water to. Maybe dig a big deep hole and fill it full of stones and run a drain into it
What timing. I have not fed my grass since March and due to the wet weather have noticed the red thread. So sulphate of ammonia here I come. Also got a couple of clover plants growing. It is quite therapeutic digging down through the grass to get to the shhots and pulling them out. With the weed killer, will this just kill the weed and not the grass?
You also mention adding other ingredients to the SA. What is good to add and at what quantities as I usually use proscape fertiliser.
Cheers for the great video
I'm going to be doing a follow up video so stay tuned 👍
What about you Robbie - any tips for the control and eradication of poa annua? Seems to be bad this year and I am constantly picking it out by hand. Must be an easier way to control it? Thoughts?
Jon boy it's not easy. There isn't anything that kills it that won't wipe out the lawn. Practicing good lawn care is your best option
Hi Robbie, Should I alternate the Sulphate of Ammonia with other treatments as not to lower the ph level of my soil? or if not, how often should I use it. I usually fertilise every 5 weeks with 2 other products alternately.
Mix it up with some seaweed, it will be perfect. Thats the good thing with liquids you can mix and match and play about
Hello again, I saw a guy pulling a wooden pallet over a lawn and I wondered what was that for ?
To level out soil or sand 👍
Hi, thanks for the advice about red thread. I don’t think you mentioned the proportion of water to mix with the ammonium on the video, could you please share that information? Thanks
Hey Jose, see this video. Explains everything you need plus more o czcams.com/video/oMf5kec4Arg/video.html
Loving the channel! Question for you - I put down a new lawn (sod) 5 weeks ago and it’s doing very well. I’m cutting it with a rotary mower at 6cm high and my ambition is to buy a cylinder mower and get it to 35mm and over time to 20mm. How long should I wait until mowing it with a cylinder rower? Thank you!!
You could start mowing it this year if you wanted. Though that would also depend on the height the cylinder mower can cut at
@@Premier_lawns_official thank you!
@@aweldmoore no probs!
Hi Robbie great video as always! How often should I apply the sulphate of ammonia? Thanks
Every 6 weeks would work well, that would also depend on growth too. Fast growth needs more inputs

Hi Robbie, thanks for the tips. I have approx 150 square meters of lawn so would require 275 grammes of sulphate of ammonia...but in how much water?
Robin I will come back to you tomorrow, on the 🍻🍺now, too much to think about
@@Premier_lawns_official have a few pints for me Robbie, I'm stuck on nights.
Hi Robbie. I love your channel. Is it possible for almost all of a new lawn to get infected with red thread. I layed it in late May but its looking tired and yellow with some areas have red tinge to the leaves. It's not been fed yet. Cheers from the UK
If it's been down since may it's due a feed regardless 👍
@@Premier_lawns_official Cheers Robbie I have some A1 Summer lawn Fertilise due tomorrow. 🙏
maybe nearly 3 years old video, but I have only just seen it. For the liquid N feed, wouldnt you be missing phosphate and potassium? or do you add those separately?
How frequently would you recommend applying a liquid feed of sulphate of ammonia in the months you mentioned in the video? Cheers
Every 5 or 6 weeks
ever mix with it iron sulphate?(especially if moss aroumd)
Yesm we use iron
Most people haven't got a spray machine like yours so can you use a watering can to apply the sulphate of ammonium, or do you suggest anything else? Thanks.
You can use a watering can if you are really stuck, it won't do a great job, if you look on amazon I'm sure you can get a backpack sprayer for under £40
Hi Robbie, what is the Petrol Aerator you use please?
We use a Pluggr. i don't think they make them anymore
Hi Robbie. As everyone’s said, great video as always! In your video you said 2.5g per sqm but looking at the product description it’s says 24g per sqm. Can I get away with just 2.5g per sqm? Thanks in advance for taking the time to get back to me!
Once you put it on as a liquid it gets it all in one blast. Granular takes a while to break down
Great, thanks Robbie!! Just what I wanted to hear! Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next video. 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks, I'm going to follow this up hopefully next week
Fantastic video, even better than usual. I agree with no need for the fungicides for red thread. I had an attack just over 2 weeks ago and I used what you recommended quite a while back, evergreen fast green liquid. Two weeks later all gone 👍. Another organic way I have heard is to use 3 tablespoons of sulphur in a gallon of water and mix seaweed to enhance the fungicidal properties but as you said in the video this may kill the desirable fungi too. I can't see the link for the sulphate of ammonia, is it there? Great organic video Robbie 👌
Thanks, Graham, I forgot to add the link ffs... Yes red thread, treat with N, your lawn outgrows it.
I was meant to be in Co Donegal to make video about something this week. I know once that video gets made it will be right up your street but can't say what it is haha. It got put back at the last moment and I had a lot of extra time to make this. This video had a lot of time spent on it haha. Hope it gets a few views!
Once you add seaweed to N, it makes the N content stronger, adding it in with sulphate of ammonium would really turbocharge that mix. I have never used sulphur on its own. In sulphate of ammonium there is a higher content of sulphur than ammonium
@@Premier_lawns_official I'll look forward to that video then! Never seen the application rate for the sulphate of ammonia in water until now. Must be a close secret in the greenkeeping community.
@@grahammacklam4736 I had a few other calculations in the video (I cut them) as it was a bit long, might do a follow up video on it...

Hi Robbie what is the product please to remove clover?
I will be going to Coleman garden centre as I'm sure you know were that is!
Best to ask them!
What should I do to recover my lawn from areas of tall overgrown grass? Should I cut it back bit by bit over time until I can mow it without scalping? Or should I cut it low to remove it as much as possible and leave it to grow back? Or something else?
I dont understand your question
@@Premier_lawns_official thanks for responding. I’m really benefiting from your content. I’ll try again. My lawn has borders of overgrown grass. It’s so tall that now it’s folding over. I want to cut it back and return it back to lawn. I’m wondering what’s the best way to try this. Videos on CZcams suggest I should strim it down and leave the grass to recover on its own. Is that right, or is there a better way?
Great thanks

Got a question about mixing the fertilizer up Robbie. The maths all makes sense.. you want 250g for 100sq m. But how much water do you need to put with that to get the right concentration? Or is it simple enough water to cover 100sqm? If the latter.. any advice on how much that is for a typical hand pump sprayer? Cheers! Love the vids. Currently battling pretty severe red threat!

Hi Robbie
I am planning on killing the lawn off and starting again. I would like to level it, would you suggest rotovating the dead grass and soil or just level over the top with sand and top soil? Many thanks Paul

Good video. I ordered the sulphate of ammonia via your link but don't think it's soluble (for spraying). Am I missing something fundamental?0
It needs time to break down, mixing it in hot water helps and straining it through a pair of tights

Hi Robbie.... The link at amazon recommends 20 - 35g m2. You are saying 2.5g m2. Which is correct? Also could you please upload the video of how much water to add per m2
Watch this weeks video
@@Premier_lawns_official OK great will keep eye out before buying it through your link.
Why should you not use a hollow tine aerator in August?
Late August is ok, it's to dry early in the month
Thank you for some more great tips 👍
Thanks Mike 😊
How many parts water to sulphate of ammonia? And is it too late to treat now?
It's to late now to be using that
a few year back a major golf open tournament, had such poor green conditions they sprayed the lawns green,,, seriously wonder what they used ,no car rattle can spray paint who knows what it it was
That's pretty hectic
I read that a vinegar water solution kills clover but also kills grass. Probably does the same as covering the clover.
Not good for the environment/ soil
how many liters of liquid should I use to disolve ammonium sulphate, for example for 250 grams how much liters of fertiliser should i get?
I have two videos for you that answer this
czcams.com/video/SFjxk1CAPx8/video.html
And more on how to work out rates etc czcams.com/video/NIIVETuKDek/video.html
Aerating the soil: clover does that thanks to its deep root system which decompacts the soil - red thread because of lack of nitrogen: clover solves that as a nitrogen fixing plant, etc. etc. Clover is so beneficial wanting to remove it makes absolutely no sense
isn't your calculation out by x10? the bag you recommend 25kg, Amazon says it treats 1250m^2, which works out at 20g per m^2 (the bag states 20-35 g per square meter), so for 100m^2 you'd use 2kg.
If you were using it as a granular yes that is correct. My calculations are based on a liquid rate 👍 if you put on that much you would scorch the lawn with a liquid
I’m seeing application rates for nearly all brands of this fertiliser (including the brand you detail) of 20-35g per m2, much more than your 2.5g? Why is this please?
That's for granular.

Is there a question in there?
@@Premier_lawns_official Thanks for the reply. Last year, I had red thread for the first time on my lawn (Hamburg). However, I didn't hear in the video how I should treat it. As a side issue, we have a lot of moles here in Germany and for this reason it is difficult to carry out the usual lawn care processes because we put down a mesh to combat them. I have still managed to cultivate a decent lawn, but I can only lightly aeriate the lawn. I am just a bit betwixt and between as to whether I should destroy the mesh, or not. Anyway, thanks for the great content!

@Premier_lawns_official Thankyou, nice. I've always thought the lawn industry ought to look ahead to the future - where filling most of your garden with a sterile unproductive crop is perhaps less desirable. They'll be a market for whatever comes next I'm sure and I wish someone would jump on it.

The comment section here is a good insight into why we're losing so many vital pollinator and insect species 😞 work alongside nature and wildlife, not against it!
Also, the laughable thing is if you left the clover in your lawn, you would have more nitrogen in the soil 😂

Pure grass lawns sucks. They cost you money, time and are wasting water.
Clover lawn are less time consuming, didn't cost you anything but seeds, are beneficial to environment and soil. Also they look like fairy tale.

@@Premier_lawns_official I'm trying to establish one but have couch grass infestation on my wild lawn. I sown Clover and hope it will win with that devil grass.
Why kill clover, it’s great for bees, plus a monoculture lawn is bad. It lacks biodiversity and is thus bad for the environment.
