In the late 60's my dad's Commer lorry used to carry ecume (scum) which was a sugar cane by-product made from the bagasse for use as a fertiliser in the cane fields belonging to private cane planters. As a teenager it was great fun watching all the activities of Beau Plan while our lorry was being loaded. What a difference to see the same sugar factory now in its present form. I left Mauritius in 1973. Very nice of you to bring back memories.

This is amazing to see. The company I worked for prior to retirement had 6 Sugar Cane Branches. 4 in Swaziland, 1 in Zimbabwe and 1 in Malelane. Sure brings back memories. Thanks Guys.

My Mauritian friend Charlie Bucket told me that this factory was owned by Mr Willy Wonka who ran it as a chocolate factory.
