If you can buy the Pocket 3 I’d get that otherwise the Pocket 2 is a good budget-friendly option.
Your pocket 2 footage translated very well on your video. I've looked at others that appeared really grainy. I just went for the Pocket 2 over the 3 based on price and this video alone. You are a beautiful person shooting beautiful video. I know that took alot of work to create so thank you. My wife and I want to start blogging our adventures with ourselves and kids and trying to use my Sony a7rii and my Blackmagic Pocket 6k would be a royal pain for that.
Since I stumbled on your channel while researching about this camera, I never have regretted any time spent watching you. You good and yes I must say; I admire you a whole lot! Great video, just one important thing worth mentioning, particularly if you carry a powerbank, is that you can use the camera while charging, so it’s not necessarily a case of having to stop filming to recharge it

I really like my DJI Pocket 2. But I have “fat fingers” and initially decided I would get a device to allow me to operate the Pocket 2 while attached to my IPhone. It works well, but my attention was grabbed by something that I assumed was so old and outdated that it only worked with the DJI Osmo Pocket, the extended selfie-stick. Luckily I found one from B&H Camera and frankly it has been more that useful for me. I get not only to see what the screen and its menu setup look like enlarged but the self-stick makes operating the camera at arms length simple. And the weight of the camera and IPhone are much easier to manage.
Sounds like the perfect accessory 👌🏾😊
I’m an amateur vlogger and still get a bit shy when filming in public with my Sony camera so this would be great. I’m not tech savvy so will be looking at your other DJI videos so I can Understand about the ISO, D-cine…thing etc 😂

Hi Tamara. Great video. I use the Pocket 2 with the Freewell ND filters in D Cinelike & I am really pleased. I do a lot of walking videos where I may be in bright sunlight one moment & then in a wooded area the next. I find that D Cinelike & the ND filters make the Pocket 2 adjust to the change of conditions almost instant. I too have your LUTs which make colour correction & grading in Davinci Resolve Studio so simple. Looking forward to your next video on the Pocket 2.

Hey! I commented on an earlier video of the pocket 2 and was debating getting it. I did, and I really dig it. Have used it in multiple occasions now and really enjoy it. Just put out a hiking vlog using it in cold weather and it held up the whole 5.2 miles up in the negative wind chill. 🤘.

Anyway there are a few downsides with the Pocket 2, I wish you would have mentioned (live tracking, issues with the Mimo App, no firmware updates etc.)

I have to say, I don't use the live tracking really, I think I tested it once in a previous video of mine, but I don't ever use it so it completely slipped my mind to mention it. Up until recently I haven't had any issues with the Mimo app. The other day, however it didn't want to open and kept crashing but that's the first time it's ever happened to me, but the DJI Fly app was doing the same and the DJI Ronin app, so think it might be down to my phone. What problems have you had with the Mimo app?

Thank you for such an interesting, informative and high quality post; this has been really helpful 👍. I've taken the plunge and the Creator Combo kit is now with me; I've done little more than play with it during my daily walks around the block, thus far, but I've got some adventures coming up that have inspired me to think about really getting my teeth into it's capabilities. Part of the appeal is that I see it as being a (relatively) affordable educational tool for someone like me who knows very little but is keen to learn about production and techique.
It's a great camera. Also perfect for getting started with learning to film 😊 So it seems like it'll be a great tool for what you want to do.
I'm looking into buying the DJI Pocket 2 Combo, actually, I have it sitting in the cart. The only off-putting thing is the required app that I need to download. I have an old phone and refuse to get a new one😅 but hopefully, I can borrow somebody else's phone to activate the camera. I'm very excited to use it and to creat all the beautiful shots!!

I am on the fence between this and a GoPro 10. I work as a private tour guide and a stills photographer, and am looking for something small and easy to use to compliment my Sony Z-V1 for being out on the move. I leaning towards the Pocket 2, but I have a tendency to break things. LOL!
You make a great point about how (A)ction cam digital stabilization works at odds with low light conditions. Meanwhile, gimbal stabilization - on the Pocket 2 - coexists with low light. Steady vlogging can continue after sundown!

Hi Tamara😃 I have the original OSMO Pocket, which I purchased in May of 2019. Since then I have used it to shoot loads of motion time-lapse shots and short interviews using the extra kit, which added the X and Y axis pan-tilt wheel attachment, the wireless flatbase for controling the camera and viewing live video beamed straight from the OSMO Pocket to the phone Mimo app, along with a GoPro clamp. The external microphone adapter had to be purchased seperately. The fact that you can switch the audio recording levels in the menu from full auto to three levels of manually setable levels greatly helps in obtaining high quality audio. I have found when you use the OSMO Pocket with a quality external shotgun, or lavalier mic, or the beachtek DXA Micro Pro Mic/Line adapter/mixing box, while running a Deity V.Lav Lavalier mic through it and mix with a hyper-cardiod shotgun mic, the sound approaches full broadcast quality. If you run a Deity V.lav lavalier mic straight into the OSMO Pocket you also get surprisingly great audio this way. I find I can shoot in 4K 60p with D-Cinelike engaged with the original OSMO Pocket, but I don't understand why DJI took this feature combination away on version # 2 of this camera evolution ? I also use the Polar Pro combo ND/Polorizing filters on my OSMO Pocket, which yields even cleaner, deeper color saturation, and increases the contrast slightly which gives images more of a punch to them. I find the Polar Pro filters greatly reduce the OSMO Pocket camera's tendency to slightly blow out the highlights in regular Rec. 709 shooting. I have dropped my OSMO Pocket, and soaked it out completely when I was caught in a heavy downpoor one time, yet my camera continues to function perfectly after 3 plus years ! The internal battery is still strong, and I haven't noticed any charge capacity degredation yet.

Hey Tamara, just wanted to say thank you for practically selling me the Pocket 2. I have been mixing Canon R5 footage with DJI Action 1 for a long time, and was on the lookout for step up in quality. Since I no longer train and shoot in the rain, waterproofing does not concern me. Never been a fan of GoPro, I don't know why, just not my thing. DJI on the other hand I love, but the OA3 was a huge disappointment and I never considered the Pocket 2 as I thought it does not support external mics which is more important than the IQ for me. And then I stumbled upon your channel, binge watched all of your videos on the matter, bit the bullet and am expecting the camera to arrive on Friday. Your channel is very informative and professionally made, please keep up the good work! 🙂 +sub from me

As always, great presentation, thanks. I was all set to buy one of these, then I learned about DJI's mandatory activation policy, which is an absolute deal-breaker. Are we moving from a "software as service" paradigm to "hardware as service", dependent on remote server-based DRM-like permission for the right to use what we purchase? Draconian, dystopian, Orwellian... need to find an alternative. I'm very disappointed, as I really like the form-factor and features of this for the price.

I am also user of DJ I pocket 2.
(I am engineer.)
I realised that instead of physically connecting the pocket to the mobile it is better to connect it with "bluetooth" at the same time keep it in the bracket of the mobile along with the Dji pocket.
It avoids the hassle of physically connecting it.
As well as it avoids damage of type C port of mobile due to movements during attaching and detaching as well as during shooting.
Actually physical connection is not required during shooting.
(Which is a must during editing.)
It also gives freedom of operation due to lack of connectivity tension.
At least this is my opinion as an engineer.
Thank you 😊 With my old phone it wasn't connecting wirelessly so I had to use the adapter, but I don't really use the adapter anymore since my S21 Ultra connects wirelessly with no issues, which is much better.

Pocket 2 is my go to camera, while traveling through urban settings.
It's so perfect for it!
From the Pocket 1 with all accessories and after that preordering Pocket 2 combo I have only used those cameras as every day busy dad. Stabilization is most important thing with sound. Image is so incredible good that it is more than enough for personal use also. I really watch rather stabl video than earthquake a7s3. The thing with mechanical stabl cames so important when low light here with reindeers and darkness. Pocket 2 has Sony sensors btw. I only wish we could change batteries. Great review. I agree with everything.

I own the Pocket 1 and was able to purchase a Pocket 2 CC from a person who rarely used it for half the price. It's so handy vlogging while on a hike or trail run especially with the form factor. The fact you can connect via bluetooth to the DJI app is a big plus! I always have a phone case so the attachment is not long enough and it just got tedious taking off the phone case when I shoot. I think I'll invest in the Freewell NDs, too bad DJI doesn't include it in their combo. No idea what I'm going to use the Pocket 1 for now??
I wish I had had the Pocket 1 to see the difference between the two. You could always use it as a b-cam if you ever wanna film yourself filming yourself 😄

Great video and gives me a lot more confidence that I will be owning one in the near future. The main question I have now though is: "Go for the Pocket 2, or wait for the Pocket 3?" Rumor has it that the Pocket 3 is indeed coming, and likely soon.

Thanks! I use the Aputure 120d as my key light and it has the Light Dome II on it. Then as a fill light I was using the Aputure LS 60d with the Light Dome Mini, then in the background I had the Aputure MC RGB LED light.

I bought a new GoPro a long time ago and now almost obsolete, but rarely used that at that time not many blogging sites on youtube. I have Canon cameras for photography and a video if needed. You are already experienced with DJI cameras.

Thanks for the review. I shoot almost all my videos on my CZcams channel with my Redmi Note 10 phone and the camera is not doing bad and the quality is amazing compare to the price of the phone . So now am looking good camera to upgrade my video quality something less than 500 dollars .

Quick question, if I was to look at the screen rather than the camera lens, at a full arms length, does the DJI Pocket 2 allow for suitable eye tracking? Just a bit curious as I can see myself using the DJI Pocket 2 for a lot of walk and talk style vlogs. :)
hello! im not Tamara :( but i do know the answer to your question! you dont need to look at the camera lens so it tracks you. The tracking is made for that purpose, so you dont need to worry that you are in frame and to give a look as if you have a camera man. But the tracking on the pocket 2 isnt good, it loses you quite often. If you arent to far from the camera, and you dont move too fast, you will be perfectly fine! But the tracking is a _lot_ better on the pocket 1, dji kinda messed up with the face tracking on the pocket 2, but they did very good with everything else! But from arms length, and you arent like, running, you will be ok!!

I’m not an expert at all when it comes to camera equip. So forgive me if my question is confusing: Does this create a high depth of field like what you have shooting this video? I want to film sit-downs, but would like the background blurred/out of focus like yours. Thank you!
It will create a certain amount of shallow depth of field, but if you want a really shallow dof you’d be better off getting a mirrorless camera and a lens with a wide aperture. Good summary, thanks. You passed over the HDR feature which has proved to be a disappointment to many users, but for those who don't like the way that's been implemented - don't use it! There are indications that a FW update is on its way, so that will be interesting when it arrives. Personally I've been distracted by the Action 2 recently but really I must give my Pocket 2 some love again soon. I particularly like using it with the official extension rod with the phone attached - that's a great creative combination.

My biggest gripe with it and the reason I almost returned it is that that Hyper/Motion lapses are only 1080p not 4K, and they are not in D-Cine either, the timelapses on my original Osmo Action look way better.
Yeah it is a bit frustrating. I guess the only way to get around it is to shoot a sequence of images in Raw. It's more work to post process, but gives you the higher res and control over colour correcting and grading.
Do you think its worth just getting the DJI2 and using an LAV mic instead of getting the creator combo ? im debating because i really like the idea of having the wireless mic and a camera with a gimble but dont wanna spend almost 500 for the whole thing.
You’d need the Do-It-All handle to use a lav mic as it plugs into that if you don’t want to use the wireless transmitter, so you’d need the creator combo

Only if you have really good lighting. I’ve filmed indoors with it and the footage has looked good, but yeah, you need very good lighting.

I watched most of your review videos, and I loved them all! I just have one question… You said that the camera isn’t waterproof, but on the site it say it is, I’m a little confused now… I’m not gonna use it in these conditions, but I often go to the beach, so yeah, would be nice to not lose a camera that way lol

Hi. If you check out the Pocket 2 playlist on my channel you'll see a couple of videos there that show best settings to use. For the SD card, there are a few options so it's better to check the DJI website for compatible cards.

Continuous focus works really well. So does Active Track. Hope you like using the LUTs, link is in the description 😁
@@TamaraGabrielUK I just checked out the luts, and I use iMovie does that mean I need to upgrade? I also have DaVinci I’m just wondering how do I add luts to my work flow? Do I just film in d-cine like and then color them when I get home? Or do I color in the edit? Because what if I don’t use some of the clips I coloured and how do I export the clips? Omg I want to film so many things now!
