  • 2010 Kubota BX 25 with 3215 hours needs a new FEL bucket edge.
I phoned Kubota Dealer for their new weld-on steel edge, but did not like their price. I did not want to use a piece of mild steel flat bar, because I hope for better and longer wear.
Experienced welders have been telling me suspension spring steel does not weld well, and will fracture. I am willing to take that chance, to gain experience for myself, and gain a potentially longer edge life.
I am an amateur welder, using an inexpensive wire feed 220 volt flux core mild steel welder. In total, I will only spend my time, $85 for the steel, flux core wire and electricity, as well as a couple of abrasive cutting wheels.
I am also somewhat resourceful, as I would rather fix and improve, than pay large money for an inferior product.

Would it be better with a bevel? and let us know how it worked out. PS I have welded mild steel to 1 in pipe for a pick ax and I have welded it to a long pipe as a pry bar and they have all worked and yours should be fine.

Thanks for a comment. There is a bevel on the new metal, and a bit of a step, but for all intents and purpose, the bucket scoops dirt just fine, as I was turning a pile of topsoil last night. The advantage now though, I won't have to tip the bucket down to dig, compensating for the worn rounded bottom edge.
