Pokemon is a widely well known brand compared to magic.
We’re also at an interesting time where people like me that played Pokémon and magic when I was a kid, now have kids and getting them into it and I think that will be the best thing to pass these games down to future generations
Kids always like pokemon, and for a minute it was cool to like pokemon. It has never been cool to like magic. Ever

Pokémon = adorable, most known brand in the world.
I mean...it's like comparing flesh and blood with magic.
A big difference is that people who like Magic actually play it. Those who like Pokemon do not play the card game (unless they are young children).
i would put it like this: they are both the best at what they do. Magic is the best cardgame in the world and pokemon is the best run franshise for children. Pokemons runs on nostalgia and FOMO and magic on inteletual engagment with the game. Pokemom is for everyone, mtg for a niche.

The pokemon vintage singles market even for the "silver age" of the game (2003-2006) puts MTG to shame , its a complete defeat for wizards on every level

While MTG was the original, Pokémon has a lot of advantages that MTG does not necessarily. First, look at all of the other media available for Pokémon. Video games, tv shows, movies, toys, etc. they have near limitless potential for media. Also, they can successfully merge other IPs into Pokémon and people go nuts over it, compared to magic which seems to be meeting mixed reactions with trying different things (IE secret layers).
People talk about nostalgia with magic cards but honestly I don’t think that can hold a candle to the amount of nostalgia possible with peoples favorite Pokémon. People love cute/cool creatures lol.
Yeah, Pokemon's art direction is solid, but MtG is improving.

@@imjody Definitely some big names in comics etc but they were not as international as Pokemon is and the appeal that pokemon has to kids and the fact that the pokemon company pushes it in every median, from movies, cards, tv, clothing, and even food at this point (there are now full on Pokemon cafes) makes it by far the biggest powerhouse

Also Pokemon is the largest IP in the entire world, dollar for dollar it crushes the mouse.
So difficult to get Pokemon products lately for retail. It’s crazy! Even if you find some at Target, they limit people to one product. Just like any investment, think long term.

problem is that we are getting super allocated (as a LGS)... we use to have 1 or 2 case a set at realease... capital is not an issue. for the last set or distributor gave us 2 boxes. 2 BOOSTER BOXES. we don't have 10million other distributors in Canada... its stupid.

But that’s also because of scarcity of unopened boxes, don’t you think? With newer sets and seeing what happened with base set, more people will hold sealed boxes of that stuff.

Recently, Cardmarket Europe was often down. As reason, they stated that they got an increase in traffic and trades by 600% in the last months (!) and say that it was mainly due to Pokemon and the growth of Magic.

As someone who watches and consumes Pokemon content daily and also creates their own Pokemon content Rudy is still my favourite TCG youtuber to watch!
I’m a hotwheel collector and I will say that when you see something you like better grab it when you see it. 1$ into 3 or 4$ all day with allot of the models. Very good turnover on profit. Nice content.

I was into Pokemon back in 2011, bought cards and booster boxes that you would dream right now to own. Now I just buy a booster box or two and toss them, when Pokemon Celebrates it's 50th anniversary and if the western market is still a thing I'm sure will all net profits pretty well.

Look at how expensive the "elite trainer boxes" are. Some are more expensive than the booster boxes!
This aged really well with battle styles available for less than 90 a box. Gonna be a very long time to 2x on a 165 box.

After a few months of playing and being involved in pokemon and playing magic long term. Magic wants to be pokemon so bad and theyre going about it in such a wrong way with the whole collectors box, set box and draft box. Pokemon has booster box and etb(fat packs) that's it and they're crushing it
I'm glad I had exposure to proper investing, now I have much more knowledge about it. I looked at my work's DPSP that I had set up and it was a goddamn mess. I adjusted it to compliment my other investment streams

Honestly it’s a TERRIBLE set. Opened 10 booster boxes and pulled very few good pulls. I’d rather open shining fates looking for the Shiny Rainbow Charizard
Battle Styles is a set focused on players, and about time we had one of those bc Vivid Voltage was the weakest non-holiday set in 2-3 years in terms of playabilty.
Collectors had 4 straight sets with Charizards on them, let us have this one at least.
I still do not understand why people think this set is not fantastic. We got 3 beautiful Waifu cards, 2 of them with their first ever printings. Then there is the huge amount of alternate art cards in the set. That Ttar and Empoleon are fantastic, the Urshifu alts look great, and the Mustard alts actually make him seem like bad ass (unlike his appearance in the games). Throw in Mimikyu full art and Bruno full art, and you would be insane to think that this wont go up huge in the future. But that is just my opinion. I love this set, I just wish I could afford to open any of it, or buy the singles. Oh well, I'll just sit on what I have.

Rudy this is a rare time when you're probably wrong. In a year from now most current sets will still be in print and with enforced printing power as they have already announced. Moreover the demand will inevitably drop as it has time and time again in the past. I wouldn't expect Battle Styles to double in value in a year at all. Of course for everyone that keeps them longer they will also inevitably produce great profit.
I hope you do a video on PSA and grading soon. PSA pausing most of their grading tiers is big news. They said they received more cards in the last week than they've received in the last few months.

It’s because Pokémon scalpers are dirty scum ruining the fun of going to your local store and buying cards to open. It’s one thing to invest in a game, it’s another to make it completely inaccessible and price out the rest of the public
Well battle styles is still 140 3 years later but evolving skies is 700 so if you bought that you did great
No way Pokemon will be reprinting anything from the XY era, they cancelled their reprint of Cosmic Eclipse. They will be only reprint sets that can be used in the current rotation
I'd bet my money on SM being off limits for reprints now too. There wouldn't be enough capacity and by the time the new factories come online it'll be all SWSH+ stuff
What if the one Box went up 150% in two months?
It's true, I've seen these short term investers they are very emotional. However, I must admit an emotional fault of my own. It's so tempting to open just a few to see if you get the chase card of the set and add it to your collection. I'm a collector that recently got back into pokemon (like, before a week before shining fates released) and was into magic in between that time. I'm also a student, so investing is important for my long term goals. Alot of buisness, economist, and investors are saying investing in pokemon cards is one of the safest ways to invest. Up there with gold, I read in a business magazine around the time I was in the military, 2014.

Often the people trying to make the quick buck are not doing it for a "dopamine" hit or whatever you said, its because they dont have the money to sit on the product for a year, they need to flip it fast because thats how they make money and need the income now instead of later.

Fairly new to the channel, so apologies if this has been beaten into the ground; but Rudy's voice reminds me of Neil deGrasse Tyson; but he's speaking TCG to me. I love it, so much.
I think the Pokemon card craze will likely die back down eventually. Like shit popped off way to fast for me to be comfortable with it. Not saying they'll be worthless (they won't, far from it), but right now it feels like a bubble and lot is overvalued on investor hype at the moment.

A few years ago I bought pokemon boxes to open them. 2 years ago I bought pokemon through preo and keep it all sealed. Today, you cant even preorder... you can bet your ass im going balls deep on that reprint.
