  • Home Invasion: The Story Of Channel U sees the Link Up TV Originals production team deep dive into the untold story of a culturally significant and very impactful UK television channel that changed everything.
Platforming, influencing and even birthing a lot of the prominent UK urban acts, personalities, music execs, videographers, editors and all around creatives of today; 20 years after its inception, we look at how Channel U helped shape a generation, and encourage a talented group of individuals that were largely overlooked for not quite being able to output the same glossy aesthetic their established American counterparts were releasing on a consistent basis at the time.
This story, though littered with nostalgia and positive memories from the music and shows that we grew up on, is definitely one of trials an tribulations. As we speak to the staff members behind Channel U, artists and personalities - we’re taken on a rollercoaster ride of the platform’s turbulent run in the UK television broadcasting space; that for all it did to help establish the UK urban music scene, ended quite abruptly. As they share their stories and some of the realities of the ups and downs we begin to see how things started and why they ended while also appreciating and celebrating all of the amazing moments in between.
Link Up TV is your home for British hip hop, grime, trap, UK drill, and so much more. Link Up TV is one of the best platforms for rising talent to develop but has also featured the likes of Drake, Giggs, Bugzy Malone, Wretch 32, and S1mba. With a host of other artists that have featured on the various series of Link Up TV, such as our hit freestyle series, "Behind Barz" or our "Live Sessions", our collective efforts have helped shine a light on prospective youngsters across the country.

At the time Channel U seemed fake, it was impossible this was a national station. Putting faces to the actual scene being from outside London was mad. Seeing Crazy T in that Y-3 tracksuit gassed me (never found it to buy it, pissed). The rise of N Dubz was amazing, for me one of the best groups the UK has ever produced. Went to see Klashnekoff and Terra Firma on the strength of the murdah video. Moorish Delta 7 as well. It Introduced me to one of favourite artists, Akala.
It was an integral part of the foundation to everything the scene is now, the sound and visuals to being young, hood n British.
Important and awesome work. Shout out the Link Up team for being a pillar and carrying the torch for the scene.
