- The Dark Ocean is something that has been in Digimon for a long time, but what is it? A dark realm ruled over by a tentacled overlord building up an army. But for what purpose? I dive into all the times it has appeared and try to answer these long standing questions.

Digimon Tamers' head writer Chiaki J. Konaka wrote the dark ocean's debut episode, still one of the darkest episode of OG, I always called this place as Digi-world's "Bermuda Triangle", surrounding with mysterious atmosphere that based on Cthulhu Mythos. It represents the darkness that draw by power, loss, grief, or overburden in Hikari/Kari's case. After 20 years, it still adding more unsolved mysteries to this place.
It is still surrounded in mystery to this day, just a few little hints here and there to tell us what it all really is. With them getting more mature and dark lately I'm surprised it hasn't come back more lately. Cthulhu/Dragomon only getting a single episode in Ghost Game lately.
Perhaps it is better this way, shrouded in mystery so we can add to it ourselves.
@@Rordrik Maybe it is better this way, only they never explained what happened to those "unfortunate" people who got stuck there and never been heard again, like Daemon in 02, and Maki Himekawa in Tri.
@@jackhsu3458 It is true that terrible things like happen there. Some of which might not be entirely appropriate for a kid's show.
If we can just leave it fairly vague or just see some aftermath it might be fine. Seekers did try to go darker, maybe some side projects they'd be willing to go more into it, but not horribly adult things.

Wait... Dark Ocean's cove... It reminds me of the cove where they fought Shellmon first time. It could be like Shadow Zone of Transformers Prime...
Theory why Arukenimon and Mummymon saw them is that they're Artifical, made by Big Bad.
It is a beach and there are the high cliffs there that does look similar to the first appearance in 02 without the town there and instead having phone booths. Many of them were pretty confused and bummed about being in this world so it is possible it is similar.
As for Mummymon that is a reasonable explanation. I think you're giving 02 more credit than it deserves, but better than I came up with.
actually, the digicode passage about chtullu is on the japanese title card. the sign in the village just reads "innsmouth" in digicode
Ah yeah, I see I paused and put up the wrong sign when talking about it. Since I don't honestly know much about Lovecraft in general I didn't dive too deep into the connections with Innsmouth. That is a good distinction.
In the final episode of 02 ken said the dark ocean was a world created by the negativity of human emotions, similar to the dream world.
Since said world being a parallel to the human and digital world, it makes sense for humans who have travelled between them can easily access to the dark ocean through their own negative emotions, about the world itself, it seems it's like an opposite to the digital world since the dark towers themselves that comes from there exist with the sole purpose of nullify natural evolution, while the digital world we know is all about evolution.
Yeah it has always been tied to negative emotions and when humans experience them that is when they are called there like Ken and Kari were.
I like it, it really seems like it should have some strong possibilities if they will just accept them. The Dark Area is also an opposite place, full of darkness and evil but mostly just gets mentioned. Though nullifying evolution feels like something they would easily forget, as Ghost Game made Never Ever Land the easiest place to grow up.

This could have been like kid anime version of H.P. Lovecraft but what was it 3 or 4 episodes
IT is clearly heavily H.P. Lovecraft inspired. In the 2nd season it came up in mostly 4 different episodes. Though it has had a couple others in different seasons too.

Thank you, there are so many places that are adjacent to the Digital World that they could really explore and have some fun with.
I hope the 02 movie is good, though I don't have high hopes for it. I'm sure I will still go and see it to let people know.
@@Rordrik i wanna see if its like an 02 digimon tri, cause i dont want it to be just 1 movie.Like lest evolution kazuna, endign was nice, but ireally want them to show us is it possible to bring back the 01 digidestines digimon(cause the only ppl to lose their digimon was tai, matt, sora, and i think joe), while the rest had their digimon.
@@keyzenthiru5867 There could be some possibilities there, but personally I would rather they just let them all rest. I love the original Adventure, but give us new better ideas. I haven't been impressed with one of their seasons/movies since Xros Wars back in 2012.
Though I am with you in Last Evolution I don't know who lost their Digimon besides Tai and Matt for sure. By their logic they should all be gone, but TK and Kari clearly still have theirs. I wouldn't overthink it, the writers clearly haven't in years.
