Good to know..when can finally make it out there to fish! Out here on the West Coast...the Southern California Boats don't want you to bring coolers, bait, etc. They provide the live bait (usually Anchovies and Sardines) and frozen squid. Sometimes, we get lucky have have live squid. Most overnight boats and multi-day boats have bunks, or even staterooms. The pillows and sheets are a good call, especially now. :D

I've been wanting to do one of these Yankee Capts trips for a while now, but I'm kinda spoiled living in SoCal with our fishing fleet. I hate to compare, but San Diego has it dialed in where Florida is seriously lagging behind. SoCal boats have refrigerated saltwater (RSW) holds to keep your catch cold the entire trip without having to lug a heavy cooler around. They will also filet your fish on the boat before your trip is over for a small fee and there are even fish processing companies near the landing that will filet and vacuum seal your fish. They also provide bait. It seriously blows my mind that this boat doesn't. Can't wrap my head around that. I really want to do one of these trips but I have serious concerns about how my fish will make it from the boat to SoCal.

Nothing worse than somebody tossing a dead fish or bait on your beer. Nothing worse than stinky beer. Problem will a big cooleris you can not left the damn thing if full of fish and ice. I remember we had a big SSI loaded with Mahi and we could not budge it. We ended up getting a fork lift to lift it out of the boat and on the ground. Maybe a bunch of big fish bags to get your catch off the boat.

Yeah that SSI was about 800-1000 pounds with 50 20 pound avg mahi in it. This was before limits. I thought that damn ropes were going to pop lifting it out. Long liners have really damaged the mahi schools.Back in the old days you could fillet fish on the ride home. I have all the fish cleaned, and in zip locks and in the cooler before you hit the dock.
