mute states are a game changer for me. no more wasting an empty pattern as a mute,
as for the sample loop 'imperfections' you encountered, totally reminds of the good old days of sampling! (no little screens to iron out loop points)
it just takes a little patience and practice.

Novation Circuit Tracks is my go-to for beat making and mixing along with my SP 404. Looking forward for the update to Tracks.

I'm hoping Novation will consider that when in editing a Track, that tapping that Track button again would act as a Solo. This saves going to the Mixer to mute (upto) 7 tracks you don't need when fine-tuning the one. Having then muted 7 tracks in Mixer, you must go back to where you started, then back and forth again to the Mixer as needed. Skip all that inefficiency. Tap the Tack button you are already in to Solo it. Single-tap an additional track(s) to mix it/them in to the Solo. Single tap any solo'd track to drop it from the solo mix. Tap all 8 tracks into the Solo and Solo terminates back to default state of mute/unmute as was before the Solo function initiated.
It’s clear that Rhythm has been a big success for novation and maybe why they’re focusing on it. But it’s sad that they’ve been neglecting the Tracks a bit. Opened up components for the first time in a while and was surprised that there hasn’t even been any new factory packs added for the CT besides the couples they added a while back.
Hopefully that changes soon! And I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but I'm actually kinda guessing the Rhythm wasn't as successful as Novation had hoped, at least judging from the community response. I still love mine through and I'm glad to see them trying to sweeten the deal.
The Tracks is pretty amazing how it is.

But Rhythm wasn’t anywhere near as good as it should be, but has been my main box since it came out, however it gets alot of hate (mainly from people who haven’t used one!)
@@GabeMillerMusic I concur, sure the Rhythm is certainly not the most sophisticated with all the bells and whistles, but as a general sketchpad its simple, fun, and can create really rad soundscapes.
The tracks was way better out of box. It had less problems.
I wouldn't assume that Tracks is being neglected. This boutique company can't do everything at once. I think the Rhythm isn't necessarily more successful than the tracks, probably slightly less successful actually although more people seem to be getting it now about how powerful it is especially for the price.

I was literally just begging for the mute-saving on the Tracks the other way. Can’t wait! But quite a missed opportunity to not also introduce a different color for scenes with content.
I use Tracks to run backing tracks for live performances with guitar, bass, vox, and saving mute states is going to make my life SO MUCH EASIER. Before I had to always reserve one blank pattern for every track when I wanted a synth or drum part to not play in a scene, and now I can just mute + I get the full 8 patterns. This alone is a major upgrade!
Hey Gabe. I'd love see a vid on what you're personally using on the day to day as your production gear. Of all the stuff you review it leaves me (us?) Wondering what to pick, and I think it would be great for someone like you who has experience with all this gear to show us what you're actually choosing and gravitating to as your personal go-tos.

thanks for the review on the update. A question about using it for live looping with say a guitar, can you trigger your fixed length sample as you record it at the start of the next bar or loop? what other options are there besides threshold to trigger the start of recording?
Very interesting about the precision issue. I just got one yesterday and pre firmware update I was getting a sample, didn’t use threshold, and lined up the start point. Hit save. And then still had a little before the transient. Each attempt to line up worked audibly but then was moved back a little ruining the transient upon saving. It seems better now it’s updated but I’ll hammer it for a few days. As not having that precision makes it not useful for me and I’ll return it. Sounds like this still exists somewhere as your resampling flams showed.

Also struggling with the sp404 haha but I prefer synth based grooveboxes though I bought it more for a performance / FX box so as struggling as I am I have a place for it haha

Sample a signle/few synth notes into it, play it chromatically, and you have an extra synthesizer. Boom
Quickly realized the off-key beat matching result. Then I was trying to find a BPM at which it would at least produce something in a certain key but steps of 1 BPM are not quite fine enough. Maybe I should detune my synth oscillators instead to match them :)
By the way, what do you think of the Pattern screen shades? I would like to see the empty ones to have no light at all, now I keep guessing/remembering which ones contain notes.
Also, I ran into sequencing limitation where the Rhythm cannot send high octave notes over MIDI to a synth.
How does it compare to MC-101 with firmware 1.8? What's better for lofi, without PC?
So stoked for these updates! Especially the FX updates. edit: I think you can make modulated loops with sidechains and with auto filter.
Take your time with the SP404, there's so much to it that I don't think I'll be able to mindlessly create for another year.

Hey Gabe! Thanks for turning me on to the update. Unfortunately since updating, my Rhythm freezes when ever I try and load a different pack... any ideas?
yikes, I haven't heard of that and don't know how I'd troubleshoot it. Definitely check in with Novation support

The fixed length was actually why I sold mine. Should I get one again? 🙈

Beat Match affects the entire TRACK, not just a single sample. Just a side note.
I think that a peer Sharing community and market place that's integrated into Components is a big miss for novation as it stands.
For the tracks they need a way to stop certain tracks from sending midi out at all cause if the device your connected to just receives on all channels anything you hit on the tracks will trigger it. Very annoying.
Hey man! You can't deactivate Midi TX per track, but you can re-assign the channels each track sends to. So if you don't want channel one to be triggering an external synth set to channel 1, just reassign that track to channel 9. It's reasonably well documented on p88 of the manual :)
@@chrisbartholomew8772 Thanks I read the documentation though to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. The Yamaha piano I connected to received on channels 1-16 so it’s listening all the time on those channels and there isn’t enough channels on circuit to go out of that range. That’s why an update to allow us to not transmit on certain channels would be cool so you don’t have to work with only smart synths that allow you to set receiving channels as well like the microfreak.

The Rhythm remains a flawed device and certainly overpriced substantially. A nice toy, but I sold mine after a few months.

Thank you once again for a usefull video. I bought a second hands rhythm and was jamming in no time with only the knowledge that came from your tutorials. I watched some of them multiple times.
I am still struggling a bit with programming a full track into the rhythm with the use of samples. It is a bit of a pain.
Can you maybe make a tutorial about the quickest way to lay down/program a full song and/or perform/record a song. Probably with using the mute states.
That would be nice and probably will help a lot of people. Thank you in advance. ✌️
