    What I did is to transcode MKV to ProRes or MPEG-2 for better editing in Premiere Pro with DumboFab. MKV is not an edit-friendly format actually.

      dumbofab isn't freeware/libreware sadly and only allows for 3 minutes of video if you use their free trial so for heavy/lengthy files its not an option in the slightest

      MKV is a container. It can *contain* both MPEG2 and ProRes video as well as other video encoding formats. You are comparing pears and apples.

    It's kinda incredible that this fricking expensive software can't open such a common format...

      I know. It baffles me, too. But, thank god, methods are available to import this format.

      The fact that simply changing the file extension from MKV to AVI sometimes works makes it even more embarrassing. And the fact that Premiere did implement experimental MKV support back in 2018 and then removed it again indicates that Adobe is managed by incompetent people... Perhaps some business partner forced them to remove it again.

      @@eurositi Yes, some MKV videos work perfectly fine. I had two videos, both recorded in OBS. One was imported, and the other did not. That's why I researched finding ways to fix it. Adobe will eventually get to it. Don't know how long it'll take.

    • @eurositi
      @eurositi Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@mks-mobile Did you check the codec types of the MKVs that didn't work vs. the ones that did? *Always* do that when this happens. If Adobe ever replies back to you, they will ask you the same question.
      1. Load the problematic MKV in VLC media player and press *Ctrl+J*
      2. Stream 0 Codec will show the video type, while Stream 1 Codec will reveal the audio type
      3. Let us know what it says.

    • @mks-mobile
      @mks-mobile  Před 7 měsíci

      If a video is converted in VLC, it will be converted in full. Are you sure the settings are fine? Maybe VLC is fully supporting the format.

  • @11DAVIDELEVEN

    will this conversion make any changes in quality?

    • @mks-mobile
      @mks-mobile  Před 6 měsíci

      I don't think so. It's worth a try. It doesn't cost anything, and you will always have your original file.

      Try Clipchamp. The program is pre-installed on Windows. It's a video editor. Just insert the video and export it.
