Good suggestion by saying not to tight. Those bolts cannot be tightened too much for the aftermarket spindles. I tried to get 30 lb-ft (heard from another channel). 2 out of 4 bolts (not self-tapping) snapped off. Luckily, it was not difficult to remove the left-over bolt stems. I used a screw extractor. Had to buy new bolts. The thread size appeared odd. I had to ask the vendor.
I bought the John Deere Spindle from a local Dealer. 63 Bucks. It did not come with any fasteners at all. So DO NOT discard any nuts or bolts. The 4 Bolts that hold the spindle to the mower deck are self tapping. There are no threads in the spindle housing. I spoke with the dealer about this, I was told to use a 3/8" air impact to install the self tapping bolts.
I will second what Chuck said. I did the same, bought an OEM spindle from John Deere, and I was like WTF no bolt’s come with this new spindle . Then I tried to make the old bolts fit, and I was swearing again, they did not fit. I went on line and was reading about the self tapping bolts , So I got my impact out, Battery not air, and it jammed them bolts in there. I just bought that impact too. One more thing, I don’t think there was any grease in them spindle’s, lucky I had a grease gun.
Excellent video John. I have the same D105 mower and I have to replace my spindles too. Could you give a link where you obtained them? Thank you, I have subscribed.
