In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to the song Fear of the Dark by the British Metal band Iron Maiden. This is a live performance from Argentina. The link to the embedded performance is included below.
• Iron Maiden Fear Of ...
everybody: jumping, sreaming, headbanging, etc..
Doug: Hmmmm D-minor, interesting
🤣🤣🤣
He'd fit in a prog concert
LMAO
Lol
😂
Not only is Bruce a singer, he's a championship fencer, award winning author, a pilot, he also beat throat cancer, watch any of the songs off the "book of souls" tour & thats him singing after his bout with cancer
If I could like it more than once I would 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
And are a prof lecture in war history.
@@hgoran7118 , yeah I forgot to add that, he also has an impressive tank collection
@@slayerbob213 you are totally right .thanks
And a badass!
Love the comment "He can sing!" Has to be the understatement of the century!
Truly, undoubtedly, a understatement!!🤣🤣
very understated...................lol
honestly
The thing is that recent live videos don't show that off. It's unfortunate but the poor guy does seem to be loosing range in his old age and he can't hold his notes as long. Nothing against him, Bruce is a legend and the kind of show he puts on would be difficult at any age but to hear him at his live best try a show from the mid 80s
@@edbad85 Still sounds better than many other singers his age.
"Would I go and pay money to experience it myself? Probably not."
That's what Fratello Metallo thought. He was an Italian capucine monk who wanted to see for himself what was that devil's music. Then he went to see a Metallica concert, and following his experience, became a metal singer.
Hehehe ... the devil's tricks... I love them! There was a similar case in Greece. Father Panteleimon (πατήρ Παντελεήμων), he was member of a band formed of priests and monks with the name "Παπαροκάδες" (free translation: the rock-priests). They played "christian pop-rock" that praised God, orthodox christianity, and against the new world order and the RFID chips. Eventually he abandoned the priesthood to became a hardcore metal singer. Musically however, they had some interesting songs...for example song title: "Έμαθα Ελεύθερος Να Ζω" (translation: I learned to live free). Today you can hear the former priest Panteleimon as a singer for the Greek metal band "Diviner". Search on CZcams for "Diviner - Heaven Falls" ...devilishly funny title ha?? Hehehe!! \m/
He was also the singer for a band that made a tribute live for Ronnie James Dio for charitable purpose (Rock in Dio). Search it on CZcams if you like Dio...ex-father Panteleimon made an exellent job with the vocals. One of the best vocal cover singers of Dio...
Title: "ROCK 'N' ROLL CHILDREN "Heaven and Hell" ROCK IN DIO Vol4 by METAL HAMMER"
There are more songs of this live on CZcams.
The band's name is "Rock N Roll Children".
Doug, you don't know what you are missing!
@@giorgosgalanos9888 thank you!!
@@giorgosgalanos9888 I absolutely love heaven falls, and this extra information just made it extra special to me, thx
Welcome to Iron Maiden, one thing always struck me about them.
Unlike other live perfomances and bands, these guys always look like they are having fun, the most important point about music.
you should see "Sabaton" live... they also seem to have really fun all the way through their performances :)
@@schustersview6037 ah, will check them out, thanks for heads up 👍
Bruce has an unearthly vocal range and power, one of the best of his generation hands down - arguably one of the best, period.
"That is a lot of people..."
-My brain anytime I watch something pre covid
There are reasons why this band has been one of the best live acts you can ever see for over 30 years. Their energy still, after all these years, the way they involve the audience and the fact that their audience consists of three generations all make it a very special experience. Live I have yet to experience better.
....and one of the best rhythm section to this day
Is simply amazing to been in a Maiden show, the best band live! 😍🤘
Great reaction! Please react to Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live 1982)
Yess !!!
Actually, any version will do. Never seen that they failed a live preformace
Yess
he needs to listen the 82 version on Beast over Hammersmith hehehe
@@nero1375 ABSOLUTELY!!! hell yes!
If you are going to react or listen to Iron Maiden, Hallowed be thy name is a must.
Same 😍

@@freakinlyrical9086 agreed Hallowed Be Thy Name is peak Bruce
Agree ... you are not inducted to into maiden family without this right of passage being fulfilled
but 83 hammersmith. yes he has better skills later but in 83 he have that endless raw power.
I've seen this band 5 times. It's not just a concert. It's like a family reunion. They're really good at getting the crowd involved. See them if you get a chance.
Only seen them perform once, and I was awestruck by how good they sounded live! What a fantastic performance they gave!
Cool reaction. For versatility in the music, check out Rhime of the Ancient Mariner, if you are interested in a little more Iron Maiden. It is based on the famous poem of the same title.
Thanks...that's three votes and several thumbs up for this song...
@@Doug.Helvering Yes! React to Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Flight 666 live), and have a blast.
@@Doug.Helvering rhime of the ancient mariner...for vocals hallowed be thy name live circa 1982
Bro is that a mass effect profile pic? I see you are also a person of culture. 👍👍
@@Zionvile666 hehe. Yes that was my Commander Shepard. You are the first person to comment on it in more than ten years of youtube.
"Would I pay to see them? Certainly not." Poor man! I'd pay and go anywhere just to see IRON MAIDEN live again. To feel the vibes and attend the crowd. They get better by every concert for more than 35 years now. UP THE IRONS!
Let's celebrate the video that started me following your channel by re watching it!
Thanks Doug for the amazing journey.
Maiden is all duelling leads!.. . makes my heart swell to see people understand and appreciate this music.. Maiden and others have sustained our souls for decades now.
Great reaction! Please react to Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live 1982) to see Bruce in his prime.
Yes and those of us who have been listening to this music since it came out, get to live vicariously through new people and their first time hearing it and reacting to it. Thank You
If you haven’t already react to Nightwish. As an opener I would suggest Ghost Love Score live from Wacken 2013.Tuomas the keyboard player is the composer and songwriter for the band. They are Finnish with a Dutch powerhouse female singer called Floor Jansen and Symphonic Metal.
+1 or 2
Totally agree. Doug I think you would dig Nightwish.
Yes I agree, this is a good song. One of my old favourites from Nightwish.
Try "Alexander the great" from the album somewhere in time or the song "to tame a land" from the album piece of mind from iron maiden. Cheers from Greece
Hello! I'd love to visit Greece sometime. Our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia is a Greek restaurant.
Metalhead growing up listening to Iron Maiden..picks up history book and books on poetry just to find out what the songs about... True story
Alexander the great next!!!! Please!!!
Έλα μωρη τρέλα Bloodborne (hunter)! Ωραίος! Doug check To Tame a Land and Infinite Dreams!
We are waiting for Hallowed by the live (1982)
O widzę, że się dogadamy ludziku
Posłuchaj sobie That Girl z B side somwhere in time i Reach Out śpiewane przez Adriana Smitha ;-)
Up The Irons
Hallowed be thy name (Beast over Hammersmith live performance) is the thing to check out, if are to hear Bruce (and Maiden) at his best.

Try The Clansman live at Rock in Río from Maiden, I think you'd like it
My favorite Maiden performance of all time
Man, having that song back in the "legacy of the beast" tour was awesome. One of the best moments in the concert, for sure.
Freedooooom!
@@blacksky379 No, we can't let them take any more Alexander The Great
My friend stole my rock in Rio dvd many years ago damn bastard but clansman stuck forever.. great track
When you started head banging....much respect because I think it was genuine and you couldn't help yourself.;) Welcome to the Maiden family, Doug.
Going to the beginning to see how things were back in the year 1. It seems like we owe Dan thanks for suggesting reaction videos - thanks, Dan! I also enjoy how your reactions have evolved over time. I think you would go see that concert now...
I just watched your Iron Maiden playlist in reverse order. I smiled when you said in this video that you wouldn’t pay to see them. Glad you have changed your mind. ❤️
I love how understanding you are with things that aren't your comfort zone, like reaction videos, or metal music. And also how you analyse them to find what's special about things that maybe you didn't consider special before
Damn right he can sing.. sir.
Just coming back to see how the most interesting and educational reaction videos in CZcams begun.
Proto-proto-Doug. Cheers to your brother for planting the seed!!! Now we have the best community ever!!
I‘m Born in 1976. My older Brothers brought me to Metal and Iron Maiden. Love Fear of the Dark 😁👊🏻💐
BTW Iron Maiden is not just a metal band, but probably the greatest heavy metal band of all time... They are huge! You can tell by the crowd.
Any and all of the "LIFE AFTER DEATH" album. Absolutely epic live performances. My favourite is "hallowed be thy name" it was the first song I'd ever heard from maiden and still gives me goose bumps decades later!! An unsuspecting little boy, sat down by my dad, who was probably sick of the pop/chart music I was listening to, massive headphones put on me an he hit play... just WOW!
"The audience obviously knows this song..." 😆
slight understatement, lol
Its become mandatory to sing along to this song.. the crowd goes loudest for this song, this and Metallica's Memory Remains, cant best these two classics
Argentina's crowd is crazy with rock and metal bands.
10% of the audience can probably _play_ (or sing) this song... ;D
This was my first video of yours, so thanks to your brother for suggestion this :)
Btw, i started listening to JSBach, vivaldi and mozart BECAUSE i started listening to heavy metal. The music has alot of similarities in composition, and toccata and fugue is probably the 1st true heavy metal ever. Metallica also did exceptional work with classical influences in the 2-4th albums with cliff burtons bass standing out. Orion by metallica is a masterpiece instrumental on a bass.
Nicely done Doug! You seem like a cool and real dude
I thought I would search on "Daily Doug Iron Maiden" to catch them all, listening (in many cases re-listening) beginning to end. This is where it starts.
Thanks for the many fun listenings.
Have you ever listened to Nightwish? Symphonic metal band from Finland & they are awesome. I suspect you'll like their compositions. They're often likened to epic musicals from movies.
Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013 is probably their most popular track in youtubeland, but I adore their version of The Phantom of the Opera from the End of an Era concert.
With your classical training and background, this one would be a good pick. I'm curious to hear your comments.
They put the guitars into the different channels (L/R) so when they're played together they create a much fuller and richer sound. If both guitars are played through the both channels equally, you can't get the full clarity of either of them 👍
Man, your analysis at the beginning of why reaction vids are appealing is so spot on! I like them myself and i had a hard time figuring out why I liked them so much, but you hit the nail in the head. Thank you for this vid and your great insights!
"He can sing!" jajajaja...and He can flight a jet, and he can write a book...or two! and He can teach philosophy in a University!! and He can be the Captain of the UK Fencing team on Olympic Games...He is Bruce "Lord" Dickinson!
Loved seeing your first reaction to Iron Maiden and loved how you picked a live version, Many metal bands conduct their audience in that manner, they have such a dedicated following and do it so well it is truly an experience to see and experience live! Love the Channel!
Maiden live are the best group live on the planet. Being at a concert like that front row center is something you never forget. I saw monsters of rock 95, metallica headlined, i collapsed after metallica ended, i virtually crawled to the tent and slept. Next morning awoke so hyped i was bouncing, and that next evening was still same. That was the leftover adrenilin..
Fear of the Dark is not the most interesting song they have ever done, composition-wise. Something like Alexander the Great, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, To Tame a Land or Phantom of the Opera might be more to your liking. A solid live version though.
While I agree with you completely, it is a great audience reaction song. (Particularly in South America!)
Fligh 666
Simplicity is easy to enjoy.
Its what thinkers wish to do.
There are so many 70's bands that would love to hear a classic music person interpret for us. Fool's Overture by Supertramp. Dancing with the Moonlit Night by Genesis, Awaken by yes. so many choices that sounds even better with an orchestra behind them.
I used to listen to this song, walking through Balboa Park at 3:00 in the morning. I'm not afraid of the dark. Or anything in the dark. (maybe I Am the dark.)
Reaction are popular because we enjoy seeing someone get it.
We want professionals to technically analyze iron maiden music and vindicate their music so others can understand why we love this band so much..they are truly renaissance men.
You have to do Empire of the Clouds! That's Bruce flexing his 40+ years of experience into a masterful composition!
its 1.31am here im laying on my bed on my iron maiden fear of the dark t shirt thats amaizing
lots of love and respect from the mountains of bangladesh
Have sang along with them 6 times. Its so wonderful and cathartic!
Maiden obviously has 3 guitarists, so because of that, they are panned specifically. Janik Gers (first solo) is panned one way, Dave Murray (second solo) is panned the opposite side. With their third guitarist (adrian smith) is panned equally in left and right.
I think most of their live albums are mixed that way. Live After Death from '85 was as I remember listening to it on a double cassette!! I think i wore the tapes out!
Iron Maiden was all I listen to in highschool, and have been my favorite band ever since
Oh please.... You know you would go see them live. YEAH!!!!!!
one of the all time great rock/metal vocalists and frontmen.
Nothing beats the energy of a metal concert.
Thanks for reacting to my favorite band , they are just amazing and in my opinion some of the best musicians, every single one
Young or old - Maiden is for everyone and everyone loves it and will be loved till time exists !
Great reaction!! I've been a Maiden fan for as long as I can remember and it was fascinating to hear someone break down one of their tracks from a musically theoretical standpoint. Despite being a musician myself, albeit *very* amateur, I had never picked up on, for example, that there's a key change here for the guitar solos.
Adrian laughing during dave's solo....ahhh my friend❤️❤️
Cool reaction! I’ve seen them a few times throughout the years; an Iron Maiden show is always a fun place to be.
I was there..!!! When You said ..' The audience obviously knows the song' I was thinking...just wait..
And...YES, he CAN sing... Please react to Hallowed Be Thy Name !!
Hugs from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🤘
Going through some of your older vids, still love this one. Argentina always shows up for love gigs. Stay safe mate.
Man. Bruce's voice aged like the finest of wines. Brilliant.
Always loved maiden from the 80s onwards, being english myself, they are a great band with great tuuuunneeessssss
In Argentina we love ROCK / HEAVY and basically any type of other Good music
Hats off to your brother.
Reactions are something you do wonderfully. And Maiden are a very place to start
Great insight on reaction videos. I find that I get caught up in the emotion and excitement of the person watching/listening to something I have many times. There are some songs that I never get tired of hearing though, this song is one of them (especially live).

"oh well, wherever, wherever you are, iron maiden's gonna get you, no matter how far"
One of the first bands I got into 30 odd years ago, seen a few times live, an amazing show always! Prob one of the best ones to react to, seeing how the fans get involved too. Good to see you can appreciate them even though not your cup of tea!
Love your channel too!
The start of an era. For Doug.
Iron Maiden - Hallowed By Thy Named - Live 2009 Santiago, Chile. -- this is a must!!!!!!!
Been lucky enough to see them TWICE from the pit.. MOST AMAZING show .. and I have seen a lot over the years. Simply Amazing..
Love your presentation style, well done!
Than you for the analysis. It's nice to hear from a professional.
Up the Irons!
Symphonic metal may be to your liking.
Try Nightwish with the song Ghost love score; live at Wacken.
Thank you Doug and send some greetings to your brother!
Slayer is another band that pans guitars hard left and right on live recordings. They do it for the whole thing, not just solos, so it's kind of cool to be able to hear each guitarist's part fairly clearly.
blood brothers is pretty progressive
Great song, really enjoy singing this with my brother when drunk at maiden gigs 😁
Nice work Doug, You are a man of good cheer and these reviews are a lot of fun. Thanks for giving metal a chance! lol
I am pretty sure you'll love Nightwish; Phantom of the Opera, Ghost Love Score and especially, the Poet and the Pendulum.
Bruce "The Air raid Siren" Dickinson
I've seen the five times live both in the states and in Germany and they are always amazing. Listening to you react to them and break down their music was enlightening. Will be interesting to say you find something that moves you.
As a long time Maiden fan...what I find fun and what made me click...is hearing what a composer thinks, of some awesome old school metal from a more technical perspective. Thumbs up!
Hey! love the headbanging bit keep it up Doug!
So your first reaction was on one of my fav bands playing in my country. I was destined to follow your channel.
I love to see people experience great bands/songs for the first time. That is the draw. You are correct.
Whatever way Saint Nicko plays 8th notes is how he intended them.
On big stages, it's difficult to hear the other band mates. It's natural that he's adapting to slight inconsistencies of Bruce or any of the other members and vice versa.
Clive Burr was way better.
@@matiasmirandaarrredondo8231 I like them both. Clive was truly magnificent. He and Nicko had different styles. Clive had more of a punk feel to his drumming whereas Nicko seemed a bit more progressive.
@@matiasmirandaarrredondo8231 They're both so different. I love his style and he was awesome on his three albums. Having said that, he certainly wasn't better on the number of the beast tour with a barf bucket next to the kit. Just sayin.
@@matiasmirandaarrredondo8231 I love Clive’s playing but Nicko was the perfect replacement.
Very good reaction, in Argentina Iron Maiden fans can be counted by hundreds of thousands, if not millions, each Iron Maiden concert in Argentina is memorable ... greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina
You absolutely nailed the reason why watching reactors is so compelling. Even though it's vicareous, it's the closest it's possible to get to that first-time buzz and in these days when there are no gigs on, and so little new material in cinema or tv as a result of CV19, that little bit of the original wonder and joy is more valuable than ever.
Thank you brother Dan for setting him down this path!!!
this closing period is so opening! we have so much to do & offer to each oder thou... (im drunk) cheers!
I stumbled onto your channel and am here for your reactions!
awesome video Im from Argentina and was in that crowd singing :D
That was an excellent review. Hallowed be thy name is another classic song everyone enjoys.
He can sing.... Is like saying the sea is wet! Hallowed be thy name live... From anytime in the last 20 years is well worth a visit
My favorite would be "Afraid to Shoot Strangers", it's amazing and a true masterpiece talking about the humanity of what it's like going to war.
Your brother is the 🐐. Picked IRON MAIDEN, GENIUS.
