    just a little note the Astra Militerum is planetary defense forces and imperial guard. The pdf makes up the vast majority of solders of the imperium. Furthermore, only a very few planets can create an imperial guard regiment, and are mostly for planetary pride and will get wiped out. People did the math and there is a conservative estimate of 400 trillion PDF and 100 trillion IG. out of the imperial guard regiments, only the main regiments (cadia, mordian, DKoK, etc.) are very well trained and equipped. These guard regiments are better trained than modern day special forces, with a lot of combat experience. Other regiments are about as well trained as modern day average solders with unknown combat experience. The Modian are probably in the meh tier of training, but are combat veterans and probably lack hardware that you would expect in a Cadian of DKoK regiment.

      @dersuddeutschesumpf5444 Před rokem +16

      The reason for most of the imperial guard forces not being elite regiments is simply because they don't have to be. Your bog standard regiment will be more than able to handle the standard low to mid level threats the imperium deals with on a mundane basis. You simply pull enough of them together according to the threat level and they'll do exactly what you've put them up to while the pdf forces fight and die to slow down and box the enemy in until the guard arrives. People underestimate the guard to such a chronic degree, that they forget that these guys get 90% of the imperium's military problems fixed without the astartes or other elite branches even hearing of the conflict happening. Without the guard being at least competent the imperium would be much worse off than it actually is

    • @KalashVodka175
      @KalashVodka175 Před rokem +5

      How did they reach those estimate for number tho?
      You’d need to know the overral population of the Imperium as a whole first, and then estimate which percentage of the population is under arms and which percentage of that percentage is in the guard
      Also its not that the guards are better trained than special forces (by definition, except for some specific regimental stormtroopers units, guardsmens fit in a frontline role, not a spec ops one so they wouldn’t be trained for the same things as spec operatives would) but that they are trained for toughness, obedience, marksmanship and above all zealousness and refusal to retreat
      Thats why conscripts regiments are such an exception, they aren’t proper guards and needs more supervision

      @@markgrehan3726 Yeah pretty much. Guard are usually the best forces of a PDF (though there are exceptions) and get the best training and gear (guard regiments are supplied by the Adeptus Administratum directly unlike PDFs). Also PDF do not go off planet, as where guard are sent where they are needed.
      Each world pretty much has at least one regiment, because it's kind of a requirement/tax by the Adeptus Administratum.
      And unlike what the first guy who posted said, most worlds do have a guard regiment or two. Even feral, feudal, and death worlds usually are forced to have one. Weather that's a tribe of warriors that are handed lazguns or a group of medieval knights taken to space. Guard regiments are a tax that is demaned no mater what your planet does. Unless the lore has changed over time, which totally could have happened.
      Another point, even the main "elite" regiments get killed just as much as any other (honestly they get killed more) its just they usually have more regiments. Like numbering in the 100s, so when one regiment is wiped out is not as bad as say a planet that only has a total of 1, and it gets wiped out.

    Darktide at launch atleast will. be Grandfather Nurgle spreading his gifts. The guardsmen are technically not traitors since they didnt have much say in their conversion. Mortal men have little opportunity against chaos corruption. The civilians and guardsmen were infected with grandfather Nurgles gifts(plagues). And now they will spread those gifts to others. And your role in the game is to be the unfortunate cannonfodder of the inqusition to halt the progress of Nurgle.

    • @Khornecussion
      @Khornecussion Před rokem +5

      The traitor guards we see, fun fact: would have to be willing. Otherwise they'd end up as zombies. Nurgle can't FORCE you to turn. Yes, he can give you plagues like you cannot believe, make you suffer, accept you swearing to worship him while under intense pain and then he makes that pain go away but you become a walking plague spreader, but he can't just say " Tiny mortal you're mine now. " - or the galaxy would literally just be over with. Nurgle infects people when they feel true, unadulterated despair. They likely encountered Nurgle's forced or fought a foe that crushed them badly enough / left a lasting impact that left many of them like " Is this... really what we are? We die in the dark fighting horrors we couldn't even imagine so that someone can have another day of eating corpse starch and working in the manufactorum..?! " - and that was when Nurgle invaded their thoughts with whispers they probably thought were their own thoughts. Little insidious whispers about how the Imperium was using them. How they were humans and humanity wasn't meant to be so callously tossed away. They would show them what happens when humans are treated so callously. Then over time those whispers begin to become more obvious. It's no longer " Just my inner voice " - it's clearly something speaking to you. Something that promises to value you. Something that promises to help you. All you have to do is tell it that you swear fealty to it. You'll commit your assault on your home hive in it's name and it'll give you everything you need to have victory. You say yes and over night you notice your skin feels numb, cracking and leathery all over. Your nose constantly runs, gums bleed and teeth grow jagged, disgusting and yellow. Your body is almost aging or rotting at a fast rate while you still live... but you feel no pain. You in fact feel GREAT! You feel an urge in fact to spread this gift to others. You want others to feel this unending joy you feel!

Their equipment, to me at least, and from what I've seen thus far, suggests that they may well have been shock troops or heavy infantry.
    They _could_ have vehicles and armoured support in the wider areas, but with how wide some spaces seem to be and how disciplined they still are, I'd be surprised if they had any but didn't reposition any lighter vehicles or heavy weapons to stop a four-man squad that's tearing through their fodder and some of their proper fighters like chattel.

    It's pretty clearly a Nurglish issue. It's not only because " lore " but because... I mean, gameplay. Imagine Slaanesh, Tzeentch or Khorne in the game. How the heck would you translate that to gameplay that 1. Makes sense, then 2. doesn't already take up a role that's already covered by the afflicted traitors? I think it's safe to say they're just traitor guard. Their skin is quite literally rotten and lips have been either torn, or rotted off half the time and all their commanders are also rotten. Their boss units like plague ogryn? Nurgle marks all over them and very clearly Nurglish chaos infested. - It's just a regiment that fell to Nurgle. Pretty safe to say that, especially if you played the closed beta recently like I did.

    if we get a mision where we have to hunt wolfer it would be good to see a lot of moebians actually trying to smbush us properly and to try to catch us offguard and shooting us from everywhere, Just to have us being as careful as posible instead of running and gunning everywhere

      I mean... how the heck would that even work mechanically though with units that aren't already covered in the base game? If you played the closed beta especially ( like I did ) - you'd know that literally every unit from games like Vermintide and then some - have been covered... so how the heck you'd come up with a new gimmick for " Uhhh Khorne. Uhhh Slaanesh. " other than " Slaanesh go fast and Khorne angry " - is beyond me. Because neither of those lend themselves well to this kind of gameplay, either. The good part about Darktide is you're fighting Nurgle cultists and traitor guards. They're more resilient. Anything that isn't obliterating their head or destroying their body enough to kill them outright will not drop them. You cannot stop a Nurgle cultists or anybody worshipping Nurgle with something as trivial as " pain " - because they can feel NONE.
      Khorne, Slaanesh and Tzeentch? You could just body all of those unless you had a space marine from those respective chaos gods come storming through. Lol.

    The thing that always should be Mentioned. Is that unlike whats often assumed. Imperial Guardsmen are actually not that Likely to Die.
    Many actually Life out their Lifes without ever seeing Battle beyond slapping down on Criminals and Minor Uprisings that dont pose a Serious Threat.
    The Empire of Man is supposed to have about 30 Trillion. (Thats 30.000.000.000.000) Guardsmen on Active Duty constantly.
    And while a Grand Planetary Battle can easily result in Millions of Guardsmen being Killed in a Single Assault. These Numbers just mean nothing compared to the Overall Numbers. Because even tough the Empire of Man is Constantly Fighting Wars on over a Thousand Different Planets many of which might be Destroyed or Devastatet with Billions of People getting Killed. There is still a Million Planets that are just going about their Business Possibly not seeing a Single Invasion for Hundreds of Generations.
    While a Guardsmen Regiment Deployed to Fight an Orc Invasion might actually Die down to the last Man. The Chance of your Guardsmen Regiment being Deployed within your Lifetime is actually pretty Slim.
    The Imperial Guard is Supposed to have 10 Million Guardsmen Die every Single Hour. Thats 240 Million a Day. 1.7 Billion a Week. 87 Billion each Year.
    Making it only 6 Trillion in a 70 Year Period.
    Meaning that if we assume the Average Guardsmen is Conscripted at the Age of 10 and actually Manages to become 80 Years old before Dying from Old Age or Sickness (because I dont think Healthcare and Pension Systems are much of a thing in 40k) his Chance to actually Die in Battle would be about 20%
    Considering the Hygiene, Health and Working Conditions in the Empire. I would actually assume that barely a Guardsmen becomes that Old unless he becomes some kind of Relevant Commander that gets Access to Life Prolonging Gene Treatments or such. Thus the vast Majority of Guardsmen likely Dying from Sickness or Old Age never Seeing a Single Alien or Space Marine. Instead being Garrissoned on a Planet or Ship for their Entire Life and Spending their Days dealing with Criminals and Disobeying Citizens.
    That might not be very Comforting for the Guardsmen Regiments Send to the Frontlines and likely Suffering Casualty Ratios of 90% or more.
    But its always something that should be Viewed in the Perspective of the Size of the Empire of Man.
    The Empire isnt just a Thousand Planets that are Constantly at War and thus Conscripting 100 Billion Guardsmen each Year which are then Killed and need to be Replaced Next Year again.
    Instead you could imagine it like this.If you Compared the Empire to the US Armed Forces with its 1.3 Million Active Personnel. And Scaled the Losses. Its like the US Military would lose 3700 Soldiers each Year.
    For Reference. When the US Joined the Vietnam War and Fought there for 11 Years. It took about 5500 Losses each Year.
    During WW2. Germany had 300.000 Fatalities each Year.
    For the Empire of Man to Beat that with its Relative Size. It would need to Suffer 4.5 Trillion Fatalities each Year. About 50 Times as much as it is currently Suffering.
    I assume that the Empire of Man likely last Suffered such Casualty Rates during the Horus Heresy.
