  • The company's new flagship portable Bluetooth speaker sounds great for its size and it's both sleek and durable. But is it worth $399?

Hi. I need some more info on the Bose Soundlink Max. How well does it handle high volume levels? Is there any distortion or loss of quality at both low and high volumes? I already own two Soundlink Flex speakers, but I'm not quite happy with them as they have directional sound; you either need the speakers facing up to get a spread feel of sound or be sitting in front of them to hear the notes well. Would it be worthwhile to purchase the Soundlink Max for travel and carrying in my backpack with my laptop, chargers, etc.? I'm looking for something with a sound spread without a loss of quality music.
Additionally, how does the Soundlink Max compare to the Bose Home Smart speaker and the SoundTouch 20 in terms of quality and volume? I feel the SoundTouch 20 doesn't produce good highs, possibly due to its older technology, while the Bose Home Smart speaker sounds really pleasing to my ears with the added advantage of Wi-Fi, 360-degree sound, and Alexa.
Another issue with all the wireless Bose speakers and earbuds is battery drain, even when not in use, typically within 3-4 days. I've noticed this especially with the Home Smart speaker and my Bose wireless earbuds. Does the Soundlink Max have the same battery draining issue? Lastly, what are the two grills on the side for?
Please let me know your views and suggestions.

Returning mine after experiencing distortion from the passive radiators. For $400+tax! Huge disappointment

I am confused to choose between Marshall’s kill burn 2 or soundlink max. Can you suggest one.

I don’t think it’s worth it. I would like to try it though.

Too much money for a Bluetooth speaker. I'm sure it's good but eventually something else will supersede it and it will be discontinued.

$400 is big NO! Especially for a speaker that looks like a purse and lacks so many other features.
