    I just purchased the white satin 1723’s after a lot of research. I think I will be happy with my purchase. One thing you forgot is; 1) 10 year warranty, 2) 60 day trial period and free shipping and free return shipping. Now that is expressive. That why I went with the 1723’s.

    I just bought the 1723 center for my birthday (May). This sucker is SO well built. It is an amazingly great speaker. My first choice was the large Perlisten. But, alas, not even close to my budget. I can't recommend the Arendal speaker enough. I am over the moon with the quality and sound. I had a large Klipsch center before. But the quality was severely lacking. So glad I upgraded.

    Great review! Having heard all 3 speakers in your room I completely agree with your evaluation. The Arendal are very well made, and sound better than they look, the clear winner, Impressive. On the other hand, to do a full 7 ch base layer, no heights, the cost is really climbing up there, especially in Canadian dollars. It would be great to compare other offerings in that price range, Paradigm Founder 80F, or the Sonus Faber Lumina V's and so many more... The tough part, most of us can't demo the products, how does one make a decision?? That's where honest, trustworthy unbiased reviews are valuable in making a buying decision. Keep up the good work!! Also, if you're not planning 2-channel direct listening you can go with the 1723 Monitors (or 1723 S) if there will always be a dedicated subwoofer in the mix. Audioholics and Arendal themselves say as much. That can save a good bit of cash.

      I would say the smoothest speaker is the Arendal. The SVS have an aluminum tweeter which is slightly harsher than the Arendal at loud volumes. The Arendal use a soft dome tweeter with a waveguide that does have some SLIGHT brightness (not quite neutral), but it is the smoother speaker still.

    The ultra tower is a nice two channel music speaker. The bass is surprisingly strong, but for movies it's a lot of wasted money as you'll use a subwoofer. You can save some money and have a very similar experience by going with the ultra bookshelfs and subs.

    • @hotdog9262
      @hotdog9262 Před rokem +6

      preferred to push the sub down to 60hz(vs 80) with my towers, as they could easily take it. sound quality was a bit improved I felt with more clarity in the upper bass region and better stereo perspective(single large sub to the side), and the sub became more invisible and focused on the lower bass. this was not SVS though, just wanted to share my experience of a tower not necessarily being wasted due to sub(s)

  • @hobblyjig

    I didn't ask for either of these comparisons, but I think they are excellent choices. Price isn't everything (sometimes lower priced speakers can do better in an area you care about more) and the RP8000F and SVS Ultra are VERY common purchases in the home theater space. I've always felt that the Arendal's are somewhat more home theater focused over music focused making these comparisons spot-on regardless of price. Thank you for the video! I'm currently running Polk R700s as LR and the Polk L400 as C in my living room home theater setup and have been eyeing the Arendal 1723 as an upgrade with the goal of more dynamic range and overall higher SPL output capability (its a large room). But there isn't much on the internet talking about the details I'm wondering about. I'll watch every video you put out about the 1723 series!

    There's something about youtube compression when combined with high quality audio (yours) that triggers my tinnitus. At first, I thought it was a couple of speakers that you played in your other videos. Then as I was sitting with this video, my tinnitus kicked in during your analysis. The bass segments in this video are below my NHT 2.5 speakers' range. I don't experience it with other youtubers (PC tech analysts) who have studio quality microphone/streaming. It might be as simple as the Shure microphone(s) you use, or something more esoteric, such as your pre/amps/PC audio processing configurations. The mystery thickens.

    Another great video. Love your channel. I’ve seen in the comments a lot of people asking about comparing the Erendals to the Founder 120H. One question that I haven’t heard and I would love your opinion on, is do you think the Founder 120H will go as loud as the Arendals without breaking up or getting too harsh? Thank you…

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Před rokem +1

      Thanks brother! I don't remember the 120H ever breaking up or sounding harsh at loud volumes. Granted I am not someone that likes to crank things to 11 unless I am doing demos or testing them for a review. In my opinion the 120H were more musical than the 1723, because they had a bit of warmth to their sound signature. It seemed to help instruments to sound more authentic. The bass on the 120H is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Arendal. The Arendal will be more true to the source material though.
      If I were given a choice between only those 2 speakers, I would choose the 120H, hands down. Then again, they are $9000 USD for the pair vs the $3699 USD of the 1723's. The Arendal punch above their weight and price point, but not quite that high lol.

    How do the paradigm founders compare? For the extra price, are the 120h significantly better than all of these?

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The 120H will be a little less neutral, they lean on the warm side of neutral. For music, I would take the 120H hands down. They have bass response down to 18hz, making them a full range speaker. They are smooth and detailed also, but their bass is impossible to compete with for the price. For HT, it's a tougher call. The Arendal are an excellent HT speaker. Plus, in a HT you will be using a subwoofer, so the bass in the 120H is as big of an advantage, so it level the playing field. Overall, I would still choose the 120H, but if budget is an issue I would take the 1723 and be happy.

      I'm thinking of purchasing the Heco Aurora 1000's and I believe you made a good choice! You saved $600 off the msrp price which is $1799. The Arendals are double that price but not double the performance. I think I would like the 1723's and I'm at a cross road of sorts. After 18 satisfying years with the Maggie 1.6's I think they need to be upgraded. Magnepan said they upgrade all their speakers which is great. However I'm leaning towards the Heco Aurora 1000's as interim speakers while the Maggie's are being upgraded and to switch speakers now and then. I agree with Mr Guttenberg, (the audiophiliac) that we well healed audiophiles need to do this from time to time. I also think it helps to keep one's hearing in shape!

      Sorry my friend, I have never heard the Klipsch RF7's in my room. I have heard them in store before. From what I can remember the 1723's would be the better all around speaker over the RF7's. The RF7's aren't really a neutral sound, whereas the 1723" are pretty close to neutral. The Klipsch might have more powerful bass with those dual 10" drivers, but I imagine that's the only category that they would subjectively take the win. - Polk R300 Center - amzn.to/3Yc7Zg4

      I recommend the AT-300 and Tonewinner 7300 amplifier combo for $2850.
      This is a good place to start looking anyway. Regarding subwoofers, the PB3000 will give you more output than the SB3000, but my choice would be Rythmik. I have the klipsch rp 280 fa , 504c , rp 600m as rears,& the rp 502 as surrounds & four 500 sa atmos .Being ran off a marantz sr 6013 basically as a pre pro . Emotiva xpa 2 gen 2 for the two front 280's and a xpa 5 gen 2 for all the floor speakers . & a a4 for atmos . Thinking of getting rid of klipsch speakers for svs ultra towers & the rest of the matching set . Is it really worth it in your opinion, I know you have had all these ....

      The SVS are a more neutral sound than the Klipsch. You'll find the SVS have a better more full midrange over the Klipsch. The SVS Ultra towers also have some pretty impressive bass. For the price of SVS, you may want to look at saving a little longer and getting something like the Arendal 1723's though.

    Hello,I have been listening many of your videos for the last 2 years.
    They are really good reviews.
    But after all that time I was surprised to find out we are neighbors.
    I always thought you were in USA until you mentioned living in Calgary.
    Small world.
    Just a week ago I saw some Sinus Faber VIII on sale on Kijiji.
    But looks like they were sold yesterday because the add is gone.
    I have been an audio addict for quite some time.
    I am looking for a good set of floor standing speakers.
    To match my Krell mono blocks MCT 350 that have been stored under my stairs since I moved 13 years ago.
    I am trying to understand your changes of speakers and having difficulty.
    It looked like the legacy were amazing speakers but then you changed them for the paradigm, then I see you had some S Faber.
    Just looking at the base and the finish appear to be the nicest speaker of them all.Maybey guess is that they lack in low frequencies for your taste .
    Now I see those 5 speakers from Era del Wich seem nice but completely different in price range and status.
    Can you give a bit of expectation,I was really surprised you sold the Legacy.
    I have never heard any of those speakers, I need to hear them
    Thank you
    Again very interesting videos.
    Thanks.

      No way, what a small world, thanks for watching the channel.
      Haha yeah even I struggle to understand why I do what I do. No just kidding. Because of my CZcams channel I change equipment quite often so that I can do reviews on them. I am still a small channel, so most companies haven't been willing to send me units for review, so I end up having to buy them myself.
      The reason I sold Legacy, is because they left a bad taste in my mouth after I placed such a large order and they sent me damaged bookshelf speakers twice. Even the third pair they sent was not satisfactory when it came to the finish. Their reply to me on those issues was also less than satisfactory. Because of those reasons, I decided I didn't want to deal with them at that time. Since then a friend of mine has convinced me that Legacy has changed, so I have placed another order with them. I sold the Sonus Faber speakers to fund the purchase of Legacy speakers.
      Arendal sent me these speakers for review, I did not purchase them. They will be sent back in the coming weeks.
      If you ever see a change in something that seems to be moving backwards, it's because I sold the higher end gear to fund the purchase of the lower end gear for review sake. I know what you're thinking..."don't you lose money"? Yes...yes I do lol. I do it for the audio community, and for me to learn.

      Thanks for replying.
      I have several systems also here and in Cancun.
      But since I moved from Montreal to Calgary 11 years ago I left my Krells mono 350 under the stairs in their crates.
      I had a pair of Wilson Maxx II and I had to sell them because they would of gone through the living room floor.And with cardboard walls living in a townhouse I would of have the police aat my door every second day.
      I also had a pair of Sophia's that I sold also. Liked them in the store but at home, I didnt like the sound at all. They never compared with my low cost british speakers with a ribbon tweeter.
      Even the guy who came to place them from audio center and set them up, admitted to me at the end they will never sound and have the clarity of your british speakers.
      So for 5 years they stayed in the crate with the films on. I finally gave them away for 5 k from 15 before moving to Calgary.
      The reason, I was very busy with work, didn't have time.
      Now, I want to go under my stairs and get the amps out and find a pair of speakers.
      I dont want to go crazy, spent enough in the past.
      I am thinking, the Paradigm 120 but with Krell's mono isn't that a waste, maybe get the 100 but the woofers are smaller.For sure they don't sound the same.
      Then maybe the legacy,maybe the signature???
      I am able to have a deal on Scansonic's but never heard them and apparently they are coming with a new one with bigger woofers.
      I kind of like the style thin and tall, impressive look.
      now such a big fuss about the arrendal 1723 ????
      But where can I listen to them???
      I hate to order something and return it,I don't want to repeat the story of my Sophia's.
      Now,I think the price is amazing,but how do they sound?
      So yesterday,I went to Audio Room , they have focals for 40% off. 936,948and a smaller model wich I found more interesting than the 936, they didn't have the 948 in store.
      I think the chorus, they had more tight mid's .
      But ugly speaker!!!!!!!
      Then I went upstairs and I listened to some ugly ugly bookshelves ,he kind of sat me there but I wasn't interested.
      I decided to be polite and get it over asap.
      But I was blown away by the sound coming out of that.
      They are PMC speakers.
      Famous around the world and in most recording studio's.
      So, I am lost now.
      I don't know what to do.
      To me a speaker has to look beautiful also.
      Little details bother me, for instance the Legacy I dont understand why the tweeters are almost touching the other circular woofer's,it almost look's like it is on top of it,
      Like a construction worker in a hurry to go for his break.
      I also saw a picture of a speaker that had vertical grain for the finish in front and had it horizontal on the sides????????????.
      How can you sell a 10 k product and make these beginner's mistakes?????
      You probably know the owner ?seem's like a very nice guy though.
      Anyway, if you can help me one minute?
      I would like to know in order what you prefer after testing all of them.
      I am curious to know, and I would like to know about the SF also.
      I remember that Sonus Faber have the most beautiful details and finishes,they are not only speakers but like an art piece inside your living room.
      I am not sure the Paradigm come close to them in that aspect.
      Just note that I kind of like a sound that is clear with tight mid's and I like good bass but not a boomy.
      I know I can hear the founder 120,100 at Base audio .
      But where can I listen the Arendal's 1723 ?
      Thank you so much.
      I hope one day we can meet.
      Your videos are great, very articulated and complete.
      They are interesting.
      I don't fall asleep like the guy audioholic's whatever, I can never get to the end.

    For people that have to use a traditional horizontal center speaker, the SVS ultra Center might have a slight off-axis advantage due to its 3-way design. I’ve heard great things about the Arendal speakers, but not having a 3-way center is what has kept me from taking a more serious look, for better or worse. Not sure if really matters from a practical standpoint or not, but thought I’d mention it.

    • @palmspar
      @palmspar Před rokem +1

      Off-axis is the svs center better but Arendal towers monitors and center sound more as it is the same speaker.
      THX recomendation is that the 3 front speakers are the same, the arendal center is the same speaker as the monitor.
      And the towers are the same as the monitors with 2 bass woofers under it.
      The wave guide in the Arendals helps also for better off axis listening.

    • @ronniefarhat95
      @ronniefarhat95 Před rokem +2

      @@palmspar I have never listened to the Arendals so I don’t know how they compare. Personally, I think I would lead towards the Arendals because of the wave guides and I’ve heard great things about their dynamics, but I really don’t know.
      One thing that should be clarified though is the “3 same front speaker” THX recommendation. That is indeed true, but even using the Arendal monitors, if the center speaker isn’t positioned the same way as the others, while I’m sure it would be close, you’re still not matching the recommendation. By being on its side, especially as you move around the rooms the center channel will disperse sound differently than the other monitors that are standing up.
      All that said, if the closest thing you can get to matching LCRs are the monitors, I would go that route. I’ve been thinking of looking into the KEF R6 Meta’s for that reason. They’re like the Arendal monitors, but they use a coaxial tweeter/mid woofer design that better solves for this issue.
      The devil’s advocate against 3-way/coaxial designs that use the smaller mid woofer is that they’re less dynamic than the Arendal because the mids come out of a smaller driver (at least this is my understanding of the argument).
      I personally would go for the KEFs in an ideal world, but if I were buying new, I would be looking at the Arendals before the SVS speakers, if I am to be honest. They’re all good speakers though, including the SVS ones. I bought SVS speakers a few years ago and have no complaints.

      I might do a video comparison of the 2. It would depend on your use case, is it for movies or music. If you are a music listener only, I would choose the Sonetto's. They are a beautiful sounding and beautiful looking speaker, no question. The Arendal would perform better for a home theater setup. So if you do use the system for HT, or even if you use it for HT and music, I would choose the Arendals. They are an excellent all arounder that truly shine in a HT scenario.

      @SpecOfTech  Před rokem +1

      To put it simply, the Arendal are better for home theater, and the Sonetto's are better for music. The Sonetto's are not a neutral speaker, but it does add to their musicality...assuming you don't mind them straying from neutrality. The midrange and top end of the Sonetto speakers are a little more detailed, but at the cost of a little more brightness at the top end and little cooler sounding midrange. The Arendals are more neutral, with a slight richness in the midrange and a little smoother top end. I hope that helps.

    • @MasterMark5
      @MasterMark5 Před rokem

      @@SpecOfTech Yeah I never understood the neutrality chase, unless you want a speaker that is extremely revealing and uncolored which for home theater is perfect but for music can sometimes be a detriment if you can no longer listen to poorly recorded or poorly mastered music. Maybe not as sharp or neutral as arendal or perlisten but music sounds so good through them I just want to sit and listen for hours.

The 1723S would be a better comparison to the rp8000 svs even the R700 price is closer but if the S line does everything like the THX line just in a 6.5 inch they would still take the win in my opinion. In my opinion the 120H were more musical than the 1723, because they had a bit of warmth to their sound signature. It seemed to help instruments to sound more authentic. The bass on the 120H is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Arendal. The Arendal will be more true to the source material though. I wouldn't even put the Klipsch RP8000F in the same conversation as the Paradigm though, there is such a VAST price difference it isn't fair at all. Needless to say the Founders are the much better speaker than the Klipsch IMO.
      If I were given a choice between 1723 and Founder 120H, I would choose the 120H, hands down. The 120H aren't a neutral speaker, but they are a beautiful sounding speaker with bass that's leagues above the 1723's. Then again, they are $9000 USD for the pair vs the $3699 USD of the 1723's. The Arendal punch above their weight and price point, but not quite that high lol.

    The problem with all these speaker reviews is that, like hinted, the price differences. A measuee of relative performance would be a better approach. Ex. If the Arendal are 100% and thr Klipsch are 80% overall, its a 20% performance difference. However to get a 20% boost in relative performance, you're paying 360% more. Thats why I think Klipsch is so popular. Not because they arevrhe best but because their price to performance ratio is hard ti beat.

    Are they 1000 dollars better? The Klipsch RP-8000f also came in a Piano Black for 200 dollars more, but maybe they weren't available at the time of this review. I'm not sure why someone would want $1800 Klipsch compared to a 3500 speaker, so now the question becomes, are they twice the price better? They RP-7 would have been the best comparison. Klipsch needs a break in time and perform best with tube or hybrid amps. Home theater Receivers I'd say NAD, Yamaha would be most appropriate. I would hope the Arendal sounded better.

    Sorry but I’m so annoyed to hear over and over the “fatiguing” for Klipsch speakers. They’re some of the best and imo more balanced (using them for audio/video editing, home audio and more) speakers you’ll get for the cost. Check what the dude (PKW) did perfecting these and having 23 patents from ballistics to audio. Imo after having a degree in broadcast journalism, these speakers are the most real to sound you’ll get, why he made them. Love the review btw! (Also, this day in age, with the amp, you can manipulate the sound how you want but it’s amazing. If you hate this, (“you either love or hate them” you said that) - I’m lost on how one would “hate” them. He flew himself, learning how to fly, to sell his speakers… beside that again, check the patents. Neat stuff

    Another thing to add is, rhodium plated copper adds more emphasis on the midrange depth. Rhodium is far from the most conductive metal but when it breaks down into which frequencies due to metal composition, rhodium is chosen over golds warmness and silvers metallic sound. I use rhodium plated pure copper connectors for all my speaker wires. To me, it helps with air and smoothness in the treble and midrange. Bass seems less harsh than gold connectors as well. The compression driver needs a thorough break in period, but they sure do sing once that happens - amazing clarity, detail, snap, and presence without being overly bright or fatiguing. I’d say slightly forward. Excellent midrange from the 2.5 way design. Strong bass to 40hz, but a sub is needed if you want to really hear and feel that bottom octave. Huge soundstage too. Can't speak to the Arendal, but I had a set of SVS Ultra Towers for about a month with lots of listening. They're great speakers. Worthy peers to my Thiel CS2.3s. But I sent them back at announcement of SVS of a new Ultra Evolution series of speakers because I was going to wait for the new models. Then saw the "Made in China" labels on the SVS' and didn't like that at all. I thought they were made in USA. So wanting a great speaker made in USA choices are rather limited. Bought the Klipsch RF-7 IIIs. I'm day one and readers trust me when I say, there is no comparison between the SVS Ultras and the Klipsch RF-7 IIIs. It may be that my room is 23 x 21 with a 16-foot cathedral ceiling, but the only reason I am here posting this is because I feel compelled to tell people that I just don't think SVS are even in the same league as the RF-7 III speakers. The klipsch sound better from top to bottom, have way more dynamics (they seem alive!), are crisper (NOT HARSH AT ALL) and do everything from symphonic to hip hop to chamber strings with more delicacy or intimacy. They are stunningly great speakers and I've had everything from Polk to Definitive Techs to Thiels to SVS Ultras and now happy to keep the klipsch RF-7 IIIs forever. They are THAT good. I honestly don't understand why some speak of the Klipsch as being even in the same league, let alone ballpark as the SVS. Or it maybe I just happen to love the klipsch sound signature. I've never owned a set of speakers that literally evoke goosebumps or tears. The Kilpsh are that good. But it's a great time to buy a set of SVS Ultras for under $1000 each right now as they are blowing them out. But in my room with my gear, the SVS sound anemic by comparison to the lively, crisp, and well-rounded Klipsch RF-7 IIIs.

      The Arendal 1723 line doesn't have a single piece of plastic anywhere in site, btw.
      There's also a shoemaker calling himself Vibe Remake Labs who does bespoke Air Jordan 1s for $600 a pop...and he's based in China as well.
      Just sayin'.

    I would even choose the SVS Prime over the Ultras ( Not sure why the Ultras have that price tag ) Mono price or Arendal is the way to go :)

    Arendal 1723's are $3800/pair, and Klipsch RP8000 are currently $700/pair. Even RP8000 II are only $1500/pair. Why bother even compare them? The Klipsch to bring to the fight are Klipsch RF7 III's which are $4400/pair, soon to go on sale I'm sure.

      I did explain in the video why I compared them. If I owned the RF7's in the past I most certainly would have included them in this comparison as well...cheers.
